 Where do we start?

The drive in perhaps.

The best way to describe it is a challenge. 5 miles of hilly singletrack, anywhere will be easy after this.

BUT it's worth it.

Jim, the owner, is fantastic. He spends all his time on the site, always there. Either cleaning the facilities, helping a camper put up their tent or running up and down telling everyone about the wildlife out in the bay. We had an Orca pay a visit when we were there, as well as Basking sharks and Porpoise.

The beautiful sandy beach is 2 mins away, there is also a ranger hut with great info about the area/wildlife.

The site is well drained with sandy soil and never feels too busy, even when it's full.

The nearest shops are in Lochinver, 5miles down the singletrack road.

If you go to this site, then pay a visit to the snackvan at the Storr lighthouse, the lady there sold everything up to start her business. She must have the best 'office' in the world. Her homemade cakes are great.

There are great walks, cycling and views in the area. It's a real getaway from it all place.

Please don't all book in, at least when I want to go back there next year.

If I could I would rate customer service as 'out of this world' You feel as though you are a friend, rather than a customer

Wonderful site- very friendly and relaxed, well organised, have been twice and can't wait to go back!

Toilet block and dishwashing area very clean and tidy, with plenty of hot water. Hairdrier in ladies toilet block uses 20p and 50p coins only, works well. There are laundry facilities, which I did not use so cannot comment on these.

Pitches are well spaced out, levelling blocks needed in a lot of areas.

Plenty of good walking and cycling opportunities ( for both road and mountain bikes). Tourist information is available in the dishwashing area and the site owner is very approachable and as someone else commented he seems to be everywhere all at once, as are the chickens!

The best site I have ever stayed on !

2 mins from nearest white sand beach.

Jim the owner couldn't be more helpful.

Showers hot and clean. Washing up facilities good.

Used laundrette, perfect.

Fish and chip van Thursday night, delicious

All in all dread giving such a wonderful review as don't want site full next time I visit but just had to as it is so wonderful.

Chickens running free on sit and very friendly.

Site dog friendly.

Very quiet site and beautiful setting overlooking the sea. Saw dolphins on our first night.

Will be returning at our first opportunity quite possibly next week if the weather keeps fine !

Jim and his good lady were fantastic hosts, nothing too much trouble. Lovely quiet site yards from a sandy beach and bay, great walks too to be had. Amenities were first class. This is the best site we have ever stayed on. Right out in the wilds but we will be returning without doubt. Soon as we arrived Jim was there with a hardy handshake.

5 mile road up to site with numerous passing places so should cause no problem. Its location is in the best place imaginable.

Great campsite very near to an absolutely fantastic beach/bay for snorkeling canoeing etc.

The campsite is situated in the dunes on very sandy free draining grass, which never seems to be too wet even after heavy rain.

There are lots to do in the area from walking and cycling to fishing and playing in the sea. There isn't a play park though, but the beach more than makes up for it.

The staff are approachable and the facilities good, but possibly a bit limited if the camp site is very busy.

Great Fish and Chips on a thursday night from a mobile chipper. You are a short drive way from the nearest town, so don't forget anthing. The town itself has good shops etc.

Just check the weather forecast before you go and pitch your tent with the wind direction in mind. When it gets windy it is pretty exposed!

Absolutely brilliant campsite. True there is no bustling club room but there is beautiful scenery, stunning beaches and a very warm welcome. There is another campsite a few miles away but does not compare to Clachtoll. Plenty of walks, very short stroll to sandy beach. Water so clear you can see the fish. Ideal for snorkelling and inflatables. Chickens roam free on the site and if you are lucky the host will teach you how to pick them up. NOTE TO PARENTS - When we were there there were 3 or 4 children who made an activity out of chicken chasing which they obviously enjoyed, however I am not so sure the chickens did, and we certainly did not enjoy having the kids screaming round our tent and knocking things over - not a parent in sight

What can I say except - Pack your provisions and just go! but not all at the same time as me. It is everything everyone else said and more. Watch out that you don't end up packing a chicken when you leave, they explore everywhere.

I had very mixed weather, glorious sunshine to torrential rain and very strong winds which my tent didn't enjoy, but Jim offered sanctuary in a static until the wind dropped

If I could rate Jim's welcome I think 100 out of 10 would be about right, and thanks for the suggestion of Fish and Chips. They were the best.

Beautiful location - although the road there might be difficult for larger caravans and motorhomes.

The site is right beside a stunning beach and perhaps because of this gets very crowded with the site facilities being quite busy 'Jim' the manager is however a star and has the uncanny knack of seemingly being simultaneously everywhere on the site ensuring that the place is spotless.

Yes the dishwash tends to have a queue but the queues are short and good natured.

There are chickens running wild around the site and it seems that if you find an egg its yours - egg hunts are one way to keep the kids amused should they grow tired of the beach.

Warning: Do not turn left leaving the site we did and found ourselves driving for 20 miles never getting out of second gear and one particularly long steep hill had us in first gear and praying

We stayed at Clachtoll in July 2011 after a long drive up from Cumbria. The road to the campsite seemed to be never ending but when we came over the top of the last hill before the site the view down to the campsite was stunning.

The white beaches and clear blue sea were amazing. Once at Clachtoll Jim came to show us where we were to put our tent. He also offered to help us to put it up but with four people we were alright without him.

Jim and Ishbel were always around if you ever needed any help and were always cheerful. The facilities were always clean, the toilets and showers were regularly checked and it made a big difference from other sites as they were always tidy.

The pot washing area was clean and tidy. There is a freezer to keep your freezer blocks in which was very helpful. The laundry was clean and tidy and there was washing powder provided.

The fish and chips from the fish and chip van, that visits the site, were excellent and gave us a break from cooking.

Come prepared as the nearest shop is 6 miles away in Lochinver and there is no on site shop. No on site facilities for the kids but the beach and surrounding area can be their playground.

A very friendly, relaxing site with stunning views.

Visited the site last weekend and found it a friendly, clean site with adequate facilities. Perhaps more showers would be beneficial as they can get busy but the water was always hot and plentiful. Perhaps some more dishwashing sinks.

The setting is beautiful with the white beach just a couple of minutes walk away. The surrounding scenery is beyond belief and worth the long journey. We found the roads easy to drive and quiet.

Nearby Lochinver is a beautiful village where you can buy limited supplies.

There are beautiful walks in the area for all abilities. Would definitely return. Be prepared for the silence!
