We called in to this site having called at one up the road and being very disappointed, on the offchance they had a pitch for a tent with no electric. Guy in reception was very helpful but said sorry, just no room. As we sat pouring over the map in the car, the owner came out and offered us a pitch (they were trying to keep the numbers down due to the strain on the toilets/showers)to which we were so very grateful as time was knocking on and we faced a 30 minute drive to the next site.
The owner really makes this site what it is, so friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble, he helped us put our tent up in the rain before moving on to help other new arrivals (who had booked!). Both the owner and his wife were always around to be seen or asked something, and the toilets were spotlessly clean and I believe regularly cleaned throughout the day. I would have to disagree with other reviews that they are outdated, they are by far the nicest toilets in a portacabin I've ever seen !
Showers were always hot and a nice touch of a mop and a drying cloth for once you've finished.
Lots of leaflets and information on the site with a useful map of the surrounding area and the owners always happy to help.
My only gripe was we didn't have our kids with us so I think kids cycling around at 9-10pm close to the guy ropes at night was a bit of a nuisance but out of school holidays this wouldn't be an issue at all. The chickens roaming around was quite nice to see and they enjoyed a bit of our bread (we gave it to them, they didn't pinch it - though we did catch one trying to get in the tent !)
The beach is a 2 minute walk (if that) and is stunning with turquoise sea, lots of little coves and lovely views of the mountains.
I'd have no hesitation in staying at this site again, in fact its the only site I'd stay on when in the area again and have already recommended it to others !

Just back from a fantastic week at Clachtoll. A lovely personal service from Jim and his wife, and along with Steve. There is a lovely friendly community feeling on this site.
Yes you will probably have to queue for a shower at busy times, but not for long, and they are so clean I did not find this to be a problem. You can freeze iceblocks at the reception area and we also asked them to charge up our phone a few times (although mobile and wifi coverage is limited).
Its a beautiful area for walking and cycling. We got lots of local info from Jim and Steve, but also found the Assynt visitor centre in Lochinver helpful. Lots of nice places to eat in Lochinver, and also made use of the mobile fish van which I would highly recommend! There is a new shop that has just opened outside the campsite selling bread, milk eggs and other basics, and you can buy other groceries a the reasonably large Spar in Lochinver. Clachtioll beach is beautiful with white sand and turquoise water. The kids had a great time playing in the waves and rockpooling and its very good access from the campsite - sometimes they were playing on the beach until after 9 at night! Lots of other children have body boards, but I think you really need a wetsuit for this. If it rains - try going for a very long lunch, or pay a visit to the Candle shop and secret Garden in Drumbeg. Assynt Visitor Centre also has a children's area upstairs which is very hands on.
The site can be windy - so consider parking your car in front of your tent at night time to use it as a wind break, and if you have delta pegs - use them! It is also worth considering a EHU pitch as they tend to be round the edge of the field and you will perhaps get a bit of natural shelter there too (and can use fence for locking up bikes and hanging wet towels on!).
No playground but very safe site for kids to run about, favourite activites were trying to catch chickens, cycling round about and flying a kite.
A site we will definitely go back to and for 2 weeks next time :)

What a place! It was great. After the anxious drive along a very windy single track road, you are rewarded with this lovely friendly place. We were welcomed by Jim and shown to our pitch. Nice and level with EHU and a water tap.
The toilets and showers are good however, there are insufficient showers and toilets for a site that size as it was quite busy. This is my only complaint. Otherwise it was fab. The beach is a stone's throw away and we were so lucky with the beautiful weather.
Jim, the warden is always around to help and allowing us to borrow some screwdrivers when the rear door of our camper jammed shut, was no problem at all. He even offered to have his mate look at it for us if we still couldn't fix it. Happily that wasn't necessary.
You need to be sure you have supplies as Lochinver is a very small place and a six mile drive along the very narrow windy road. Lochinver does have a small convenience store for most of your needs though.
There is a small shop at the entrance to the site that sells basic supplies tea coffee milk eggs bacon etc and the young fella does toasties sandwiches and takeaway tea coffee etc. I'm not sure if it's a new venture for him but it is very useful.
The beach is beautiful and we spent a long time there enjoying the sunshine.
We will definitely visit again.

Site set just behind the sand dunes with 5 mins max walk to a lovely, sandy beach. An idyllic location. Had brilliant weather that makes a difference! But the location is superb. Both Jim (owner) and Steve (colleague) were really friendly and helpful and always willing to help out settling people on to the site. I was there in the peak season and the site very, very busy so that the shower block did not cope at peak times. Always kept clean though. Touring the west coast and this was the most expensive of all the sites (including caravan club sites) and payment in cash only that ate into my available cash. Nearest shops at Lochinver, 6 miles slow drive away but a fresh fish van called (Tuesday I think) selling fresh, smoked fish and shellfish. Would I go again? You bet I will, but perhaps before the school holidays start.

Managed to stay for 4 nights during some of the best weather we have seen in a while. Although we had only booked for two nights the site was great and weather to good to move, so Jim the owner managed to fit us in for another two nights.
Jim and the staff were very friendly and always helpful. Twice I seen them helping people erecting tents that they were having problems with.
The scenery, beaches and walks around the site really are stunning. Would also recommend a trip to the lighthouse where you will usually see a couple from Fife who now live nearby who do the whale watching. With there guidance and getting to use there binoculars, we seen porpoise and dolphins nearly every day. Also a great burger van there as well who do a fab venison burger.
From the lighthouse carpark you can also walk round to the old-man-of-stoer that takes about 3/4hrs of an hours each way.
All in all it is so far one of the best sites we have stayed at. However we would have to agree that the shower and toilet facilities could do with being increased. There is a bit of a wait during peak hours in the day. However although a little dated they are spotlessly clean with Jim making sure they were cleaned constantly during the day.
One negative is Wi-Fi and phone reception at the site. If you do not need either then it is not a problem. However I do a bit of trading and like to check on things a couple of times a day. In the 4 days I was there I could only get internet signal for about 10 minutes.
There is not a site shop so you need to drive about 5 miles into town to get any supplies. However I believe they may be in the process of building a small shop on site.
Already looking to book up again and hope we are as lucky with the weather as we just have been.

Clachtoll Beach Campsite was the last stop for us on a ten day trip up the West Coast of Scotland (Isle of Skye and Gairloch being the two previous stops). We had booked in for three nights at £26 a night for a trailer tent with ehu, with two adults and two children.
Out of the three campsites we stayed at on this trip (Kinloch – Skye, Sands – Gairloch) Clatchtoll was the most expensive, with the poorest restroom facilities. They were OK, but after the bathrooms at the previous two sites they seemed a bit outdated and also too small for the number of campers, two toilets and one urinal in th gents isn’t really enough for the number of units that they have there. Having said that, they were adequate and always clean for the three days that we were there and if you avoid “rush hour” then no need to wait!
Jim was extremely welcoming and seemed to be everywhere at once helping out when needed, completely different to the staff presence at the other two sites. It would be great if all campsite owners/managers were as helpful as Jim!
The site itself was lovely, set back a few minutes walk from a fantastic beach, with walks in either direction. A perfectly relaxing three days, set next to a beautiful beach, for the last three days of our holiday.
Nice little unmanned Ranger Station next to the beach car park with a lot of facts about the area as well as marine wildlife displayed, and for those that had forgotten them they even had children's nets that they could borrow.
A few inconsiderate campers playing their TV’s at excessive volume at near enough midnight was the only gripe, took a little shouting from the other campers right next to them to get them to switch them down/off but that seems to be a problem that was on each campsite we stayed at, either unlucky for us or just that there are more selfish people camping these days.
We will certainly be back, planning on doing the outer Hebrides either later this summer or next and will be visiting Clachtoll again as part of that trip.

Can't praise this site highly enough, we arrived and Jim the owner came to greet us and then proceeded to help sort us through to our serviced site which was perfect with a view of the sea, the facilities were excellent with free working wifi and toilets/showers which were cleaned daily, the laundry was good if a bit on the pricey side but excellent if required, we had a great stay there and would return if in the area.
The site is situated close to sandy beaches with safe bathing which was an added bonus.

This was my first visit here and I'm going back in the latter half of August. The showers are great and clean. The site is Machair so lots of small flora and fauna to look at. Even a very rare Oysterplant. If you get up early you will see Eider ducks and ducklings. Red and Black Throated Divers. It's a very relaxing site with endless cliff top walking. Stock up before you come as the shops at Lochinver are a good twenty minutes away.

We visited this site 3 years ago, before we had our wee one, and thought we'd try it again with our new canvas bell tent and 2 year old. We were NOT disappointed! The owner remembered us and welcomed us back, we had a serviced pitch this time and he kept the pitch beside us free as our friends were joining us at the weekend. My son took a shine to Jim who always made time for him. Especially when it came to feeding the chickens and having a ride on the 'tractor' (an out of use lawnmower!)
Shower blocks were spotless and Jim opened up the disabled shower to let us shower as a family - much easier to shower a 2 year old with 2 adults present!
Dishwashing area spotless too. The owners run a tight ship and it pays off. The campsite is well kept and clean and the scenery speaks for itself. We've already booked our return trip!

What a great location, by a sandy bay! There were only a few site users when we called in early May and we noted that the two spotlessly clean showers might not cope in the main season. The welcome and orientation tour by the owner was first class. The site is a field with a few semi-hard, well spaced, pitches with EHUs & water round the edge, where some were more level than others. Chickens roam the site, but the is plenty of off lead dog exercise areas near the adjoining beach. Overall rated by us as very good and recommended despite a top whack pitch fee (similar to what you might pay for Caravan Club facilities).
