I tried so hard to find a bad review about this campsite before going, but couldn't and now that I have been I understand why! We went with 2 kids under five who loved it and it also worked it's magic on us adults too. Shower block is great, constant hot water and spotless. The laundry room is fab as powder and softener are provided. Jim and ishbel are superb always on the go around the site making sure everyone is ok, they make you feel very welcome and create a lovely atmosphere on the site.
The beaches are beautiful and the kids loved the four ducks who wander freely in the site lapping up all the attention the kids give them. If you want to chill out and forget about stress then this is the place to go. Also go prepared for wet weather decent wellies and such as the weather is unpredictable and never does what the forecast says, but even when it rains it's still great as kids love nothing better that walking on the beach in the rain looking in the rock pools for some surprises. Will be going back as soon as we can, though the more cracking reviews this place gets the less the chance of getting a booking so maybe all us clachtoll lovers should start writing some bad comments. Only kidding Jim!

Definitely a must for all those who love special places. The scenery here is unbeatable. The campsite owners - well have to be the most genuinely helpful and friendly folk around. Gave us much needed help in putting up our awning (we have two small kids!). The facilities are modern and kept really clean. We find it a really chilled out place and ideal for families.

I would thoroughly agree with all the other messages. We visited this site at the end of May with a brand new tent that we had never put up before. When we arrived Jim quickly made himself known and helped us choose a site. When he noticed we were pitching a bit slow he came over and helped us until it was up. A couple of days later it blew up gale force and late in the evening Jim checked on everyone on the site to see if they were OK. The facilities were spotless and cleaned every day. The site has sandy soil so is very free draining so mud was not a problem when it rained. The site is within spitting distance of a glorious white sandy beach with beautiful clear water. I would recommend this campsite without any hesitation.

This is definitely one of the best campsites in Scotland. Fantastic views right next to the beach. The toilet / shower facilities are spotless and cleaned regularly. The one thing that puts this site above others are the owners Jim and Ishbel (I hope I got the name right) very welcoming and practically put my tent up for me, and when things go wrong which they did (weather was apalling and tent got damaged) they rescued us from the wind and rain and helped put the tent and kit away) The site is very exposed but this would not put me off going again (already booked another week in July) also there are no playrooms or arcades, which is a bonus for me as the children spend hours on the beach and actually talk to each other. The nearest shop is a few miles away from the campsite, so come prepared and I am told there is a decent fish and chip shop further along the single track road.

What a fantastic site with wonderful views. The site is pretty level with a new shower and toilet block. There is also washing facilities and a hot drinks machine! The owners Jim and Ishbel are lovely. I locked my keys in the boot of the car and Jim helped my boyfriend get back into the car. Can't sing their praises enough they really are brilliant! Jim has lots of advice on cool places to go in the area. The walks around the coast near the site are great for after dinner. The sea is lovely and I'm sure in the summer it will be even more spectacular. The drive up is long, it is the furthest north I have ever been. The drive is also good, well worth it! Get yourselves to Clachtoll, one of the best places I have ever been. Sarah and Fraser from Stirling.

We went here as part of the 1st UKCS touring Scotland meet. It was our furthest destination north and is what can only be described as a glorious drive. Now if you want discos parties and pubs close by you will be disappointed. However if you want to wake up in the morning feeling like you are in heaven then this is the place to go. The scenery is spectacular and the beach is to die for. If this was in Greece everyone would be raving about it. There are fantastic walks to be had around the area and excellent wild life to be seen including if your lucky enough whales. The site itself is run by the most friendliest Scotsman Jim. Came out to meet with us on arrival and introduce himself. Helped us to our pitches and was polite throughout, something often missing from campsite owners today. The toilet block is modern and the showers were heated but only two in each block. Good washing facilities and the toilets are more than adequate. There is eclectic hook up on the site although no hard standing the ground is pretty solid being sanded. Well worth a visit for the scenery itself. Our visit was cut short due to the very high winds but we will be returning very soon.

Visited in Sept 2004. Took 2 days to get there from Leeds. Packed waterproofs to wear when erecting tent. Didn't need them. Bit windy when we arrived, but erected tent with no problems. Stayed for 5 days. Expected wind, rain & midges. Got none of them, instead got glorious sunny, cloudless, windless days. Got too hot mid-week ! Anyway, here is my review of Clachtoll :- 1) Shower/toilet block is modern, (sinks/ showers/washing facilities), and was kept immaculately clean during entire stay. 2) No hook-ups when we were there. Could only improve the site. 3) Beautiful white sandy beach and crystal clear sea. 4) Surrounding area excellent for walks although a bit hilly. 5) Only attractions are watching the sheep, the rabbits, the sea, whales & seals, so take something to pass away the time. 6) All roads are single track but with plenty of passing places. 7) Lochinver is nearest town at a 16 mile round trip, although there is a basic 'shop' at a mile or so up the road at Stoer. 9) There is a public payphone 'cause mobiles don't work there. Last census stated 25 residents plus 300 sheep. You get the picture!

Ditto the previous comments with regard to the owners and the facilities. We were lucky to hit the fabulous weather at the end of July. We could have been in the Med. Water was slightly colder but still nice once you get used to it! Just a really nice unassuming and quiet site in a great "off the beaten track" location. All in all a very enjoyable holiday with a great beach for the kids.

Fabulous , really enjoyed a few days here . Jim was really helpful and friendly . He's doing a great job slowly upgrading and he's doing it right . Showers, toilets etc excellent , nice large pitches for m'homes etc , with both water and electric on each pitch. It's right on the beach and is hard packed sand which is fairly level. It is remote and the access road is a bit testing , but if yer fancy a secluded stunning break , go for it.

Wow! words can barely describe this heavenly place. Wardens Jim and Ishbel are the friendliest most helpful people you could wish to meet. The location of the site is gorgeous, quiet, calm and relaxing with amazing views. The beach has white sands and turquoise sea with spectacular rock formations. With a disability I often find camping hard work, however the disabled toilet cubicle made life much easier. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this little piece of heaven to any real, nature loving campers. We'll be back in the spring to relive our best camping holiday to date!
