We absolutely love this site and return to it year after year.
The setting must be one of the best in the British Isles on the shores of Loch Broom looking out to the north and west. In May and June, the long hours of daylight make this a magical place to stay despite the attentions of the Scottish midges!
There is a consequence of the spectacular coastal location which is the proximity to the Atlantic weather. We have spent complete days in the tent on this site braced against the poles trying to stop it collapsing in gale force winds. Wind can also be a problem when setting up and taking down your tent - there is no shelter here. I have seen tents torn apart by the weather on this site. So if you stay here make sure you have a decent quality, robust tent. Wind (and midges in the absence of wind) can make outside seating and cooking a bit unpleasant.
The site is within a couple of minutes of shops and restaurants in Ullapool so if the weather is too inclement for camp cooking, the adjacent Indian, pub and sightly more distant Pizza place and fish bars offer sheltered alternatives.
The facility blocks are more than adequate for the site. There's always been plety of space on the site even during camper van rallies. Pitches are not marked out but the site is large enough that only rarely have we had neighbours pitched uncomfortably close to us.
The people who run the site can be a bit gruff but in many visits we have always found them OK. The site office is not always manned and they rely on collecting money by coming round in a van in the morning.

This is a wonderful site with very very friendly staff. I cannot believe that users of the site could have got the impression that the individual collecting the monies was in any way unpleasant. He may be a bit quiet but when a conversation is initiated he is very hospitable.
The site has also upgraded the showers which are very powerful indeed. And thank goodness for a small charge it limits the time we are in the shower. And 19.00 a night is Cheap!
This site encourages you to associate with your fellow campers and caravanners and when on holiday most people enjoy a wee dram and a wee sing song. If its not your thing then simply don't go!
There are regular police patrols of the site to discourage anti social behaviour and clear signage to inform you what to do should such incidents arise and I know they will be swiftly dealt with.
Please be assured that this is one of the most beautiful sites in the North of Scotland with a relaxed atmosphere. It is not like many sites with do's and don't's which allows you a lot more freedom to enjoy yourself.
I would encourage campers and caravanners to visit. It's a beautiful village and great social nights. I've only got until 9th July until my next visit and can't wait.
I've been caravanning for many years and own a lovely Bailey caravan and a I find that if you have use of a hoover you can soon sort out the grass problem. If not, a brush does the trick

Arrived around lunchtime, no-one at reception. Instructions left, to pick pitch and they would collect fee in morning around 9am. No sign of any warden until following morning when they knocked on door to collect fee. No pleasantries passed. Very unwelcoming.
Toilet/shower block clean but very basic. No heating so very chilly having shower. Lovely views from campsite and within easy walking distance of village centre.
As mentioned in previous reviews, it is extremely windy. Indian restaurant at gates is excellent.

I haven't used this site since Aug 2008 but it is one of my favourite motorbike locations. The roads in the area are a pleasure to drive on and the village of Ullapool is bustling with life, great pubs and restaurants.
The site is by the loch side(sea loch) and is right in the middle of the village. The grass is well kept and the toilet blocks are clean and tidy.
The site tends to catch the wind however and if you are unfortunate enough to be there when the Atlantic rollers are blowing through be prepared to batten down the hatches!
If you are lucky enough to be in Ullapool during one of the traditional music festivals you are in for a treat! This is the sort of site where you can just turn up, pick a pitch and pay whenever the warden comes round.
I like the whole laid back atmosphere of the place. There is a good mix of campers, bikers, caravaners and motorhomes each doing their own thing getting on with enjoying the place.

Just back from a 3 night stay on this campsite. Simply stunning site! The views are second to none! Ullapool is such a beautiful place. The local pubs are most welcoming as are the staff in the shops! They couldn't be more helpful! We particularly liked the fact that you drive onto the site and pick whatever pitch you want. The warden then comes round the next morning in his van and collects the fee - how quaint is that? The campsite warden was very approachable and cheery.
The toilet block is a bit tired but I have to say they were cleaned every day. The 20p for a shower didn't grate on us at all. I only ever used 20p for a shower and never ran out of water once. The water was lovely and hot! The toilet block was a bit cold but then we're talking end of September in Scotland!
There had been huge amounts of rain on our way to ullapool and we were wary that the pitches may have been waterlogged - not so - broomfield is a very well drained site. We tried the Chinese carry out and it was excellent. We also tried the Indian restaurant (which is located at the entrance of the site). The food there too was excellent. But beware - they do no have a licence ie don't serve alcohol, although you can bring your own. Cash payment also - no cards accepted. All in all we have a fantastic weekend mixing with the locals and admiring the stunning scenery. We went to inverewe gardens - bit of a let down - perhaps this was due to the time of year, but most certainly wasn't worth the £8 each entrance fee. We had several bikers on site when we were there - never heard them yet! Kept themselves to themselves. I'd imagine this site would get fairly busy in summer.

Lovely site with great views, particularly if you get a pitch close to the Loch. I did on both visits. On my latest visit, the wind did pick up a bit but nothing too bad. The dreaded Midge was also out in force but nothing some Avon 'Skin So Soft' didn't sort. Like others have stated, the site does need a bit of work to bring it up to standards but there is nothing fundamentally wrong with it. The toilet block does look a bit old and tired. The 20p charge for a shower does grate a bit. I have no idea if it runs out but I had plenty of hot water for my 20p.
Ullapool is a smallish town but can get loud at weekends (pubs) but the campsite is pretty quiet. There were no disturbances other than some large vessels mooring in the loch in the early hours. I presume they were fish processing boats.
There are a few pubs close to the campsite including The Arch (good atmosphere but can get loud at weekends. I like loud though!), The Seaforth (child friendly and good for grub and also has a fish and chip shop next door) and The Ceilidh Place (traditional). All are within a few minutes walk of the campsite.
There is a handy Cost Cutters Store and Outdoor shop within a few minutes of the campsite. Great if you forget to bring something, which inevitably you do!
The campsite is popular with bikers due to the excellent roads. The roads in the NW Highlands are brilliant. They're usually quiet, well maintained and have plenty of straights and twisty bits. You will see plenty of bike convoys in the summer months even when it's chucking it down!

It’s been about 12 years since we last visited this site and how things have changed! Not for the better unfortunately!
On the day we arrived the grass had just been cut but the cuttings had not been collected so everywhere you walked you took the cuttings with you. The inside of the van was a mess in a short time. We did the shoes on shoes off thing for a while but that gets a bit tedious. The toilets and shower areas became a real slipping hazard in no time due to the footfall bringing in the grass cuttings on to a wet floor. Luckily we are still quite sprightly on our feet but I did fear for an old fellow who was holding on to the sink for dear life after doing an unexpected splits.
The toilets and showers are in need of an upgrade but if they were given a good deep clean then they would be fine. After paying £19 a night for the electric hook up and the two of us I did not expect to have to pay 20p for a shower!
We were warned that if we were to take one of the pitches on the sea front with the best views over the sea then we would have to come back and make arrangements to hire a cable cover to protect the electric cable where it would pass over the road. This was due to some new stuff Health and Safety we were informed! Not so much a Health and Safety issue really as this was because the site has not spent the money needed to bury the supply cable safely under the road!
The first night was spent on site with no problems at all and a very peaceful sleep was enjoyed.
The second night we were treated to some noisy and foul mouthed banter from the vans on the sea front but this petered away by 9 o clock.
On the third night the sea front party started with some lunatic running back and fore along the waterfront trying to play the bagpipes (yes I did say running). This was followed by an all out party with loud music and foul language that lasted until the early hours. My wife went out to ask them to tone down the noise and the language only to be told that if she wasn’t happy then she should pack up and go.
In the morning we did just that along with the three adjacent caravan owners who all complained about the noise and gave that as their reason for leaving.
On the way out we stopped and informed the office that we had intended to stay for another week but enough was enough. Incredibly the three other caravan owners who left in front of had stopped to say they were leaving but had not complained about the parties! In fact the only complaint they had was from us. Yes right!
We moved three miles up the road to Ardmair Point and spent some quality time on this delightful, clean and modernised site. Highly recommended!
On a positive note Ullapool is still a delightful place to visit with all the facilities you could ask for. The Jade Chinese restaurant has the best spare ribs I have ever tasted!
There is a Tesco just behind the site and there are plenty of quality places to eat and drink along the water front.
We had a problem with our vehicle on the first day in Ullapool and Ross’s Garage diagnosed and advised a fix at no cost!
We will definitely be visiting Ullapool again and we will check out this site again to see if anything has improved but on the experience of last week we will not be staying again.

This was our first outing into caravaning as it's only about an hour from where we live. The site as very basic and the showers at the time we stayed was 20p each which was a pain having to find them. I can't remember the cost but it is as has been said onlt a few minutes from the town and ferry terminal. It is situated in a good location and would be ok for a couple of days stay.

Could not believe the negative reviews I have read on this site which led to me joining this site to leave my review.
We stopped on this site in August and it took me back to how camping should be. No prebooking required so ideal for tourers. The staff/owners were pleasant. Choose your own pitch, the scenery is outstanding, we sat watching a school of dolphins from our tent. The site is by a rocky beach from which you can walk into Ullapool in 5 mins. We lit a fire on the beach on a night (cleared up after), heaven. There is a walk from the site to a river which our boys age 14 and 12 took a dingy out on with wet suits due to the water being icy.
The site is great for dog owners due to the large dog walking area of the site which is ideal for them to run free. On our 10 day stay we were only bothered by midgies once and had to resort to head nets. The site is clean and basic
Which is all you need when the scenery is so stunning. We tried the Indian which was suberb and the chinese which was not up to much. Ullapool has plenty of pubs that serve decent food but can be quite expensive. There were quite a few bikes on the site and seemed to cover all nationalities as it was a meet of some sort. The site I recommend for campers who enjoy camping, stunning and peaceful scenery. If you want to go Whalewatching in Gairlock make sure you book well in advance. Whalewatching is also available on Skye which we did and although we didn't see any whales we had a brilliant day out. There are boat trips to the Summer Islands which were nice but I think the sunshine we had helped make the day

Great spot close to Ullapool which is a lovely village and overlooking the loch. However we arrived and there was no one to greet you, just a sign telling you to pitch and someone will collect your payment next morning.
It is the most expensive site we have ever been on @ £26 a night for not the best of facilities. Toilet and shower block need upgrading and we thought 20p per shower was over the top after paying our nightly fee. Would we return the answer is yes to Ullapool but not to this site.
