The reviews about the location of this site are right, it looks just perfectly situated. Having been here before (tents) and returning with a touring van, we noticed some changes (mainly ageing) that are not for the better, but they are not going to distract most customers. A complete mix of bikers / caravanners / motorhomes and tenters but all seemed to get on OK, but some bikers zoomed around.
On arriving at the site, it's clear that they don't run the site like others we visit, there's no staffed reception and paying for the pitch is usually done around 09:00 the next day. Some people in motorohomes tend to make use of this 'free' facility and are off soon after breakfast. Paying £18 for a pitch with elec seems a bit steep with no site warden. A few years ago this site had midgie eater gas machines but they seem to have been stored (perhaps for later in the year) but then they will be really needed.
Some of the grassed area had been trimmed recently. Most of the elec hook ups are in the wrong locations (you'd need to see what I mean) as a number of pitches needed to run their cables over the roads, suffering damage by passing cars. Take an extension lead as you could use it.
Showers (20p) and loos were clean enough although a little dated. Other facilities were not used but available.
Ullapool itself has a number of restaurants and pubs but not as 'family run' or friendly as it used to be. The popular ones are usually full early evening and may not particularly good value for money. Smiles from some bar staff seem to be optional in some hostelries, but you can always vote with your feet like we did.
The Shell garage has been bought by Gleaner Oils and you only need to fill just enough to get you to Inverness to get sensible value fuel. Take plenty of cash as they don't seem to like plastic cards in Ullapool.
A noticeable Police presence in a 4x4 was a regular sight, but we never saw a need for this, they even patrolled the site every night.
At the site entrance there is an Indian restaurant but the hand painted sign on the outside wall did not inspire confidence to take you inside.
We'd be back again, the location makes up for a lot.

I visit this site every year whether en route to Lewis or returning from Lewis. It is the most perfect location for a site I have ever known. The facilities although dated are absolutely spotless and well maintained and you just have to accept during busy periods that they can become a bit untidy, However the dedicated staff thoroughly clean them every morning.
I can confirm that if you owe the staff money they will visit you early in the morning to collect their monies which seems perfectly reasonable to me. The only alternative is to arrive at a reasonable time and pay the night before. After all there are some dishonest people who would arrive late and leave early to avoid payment, having made use of the facilities to the detriment of all those paying guests.
I can't believe that some comments suggest that Anti Social Issues are a factor on the site. Yes there are a number of well run friendly pubs which offer great hospitality and value for money, nearby, but I can think of one which contributes towards any disturbance on site. In addition I have never experienced any real noise issues. I suppose at night noise does carry and a couple returning to their unit after darkness falls, engaged in conversation may cause some individuals to complain. Though can't think why! Your on your holidays.
The site gives great access to the village and the many varied shops and restaurants. There is a busy harbour which is well worth a visit and the ferry to Lewis arrives here several times daily.
I can honestly say, I have caravanned for 14 years, I'm now 40 years of age and I have visited a good few sites in my time. This is the best.

Actual location of site is spectacular however there were many negatives. Toilet block could certainly benefit from some work. We found it rather awkward to find a pitch since the only markings seemed to be hook-up bollards. After we arrived the 'pitch' vacated by the outfit next to us was taken over by two A class motorhomes. The difficulty in pitching was compounded by the non appearance of any wardens until 8.30am on Sunday morning when they came knocking for payment of fees. Will not be returning for another stay.

Had planned trip for a while as my kids now live on the Isle of Lewis. Read reviews on here and thought 'what the heck!' All we can say is WOW! Ullapool is a gorgeous place and the drive up through the rest of Scotland was breathtaking. Broomfield is a very very good site for a short or long stay. We pitched up our van and tent and had the spectacular Loch Broom in front of us complete with resident seals on the beach and by the dock. Take or buy hard ground tent pegs as the ground below the grass is very hard. Yes, the reception is only open between 3-5 pm every day but is that really a hardship?, Yes if you don't pay, the staff will approach you in the morning and be warned. They patrol from very early on taking note of non payers. Yes the toilets and showers could be updated but are clean and well maintained which is all you need. Yes, there are midges but to be honest, these bothered the dog more than us and were really only rife early morning and late at night. I do think the site should stop advertising the bug zappers as these are blatantly not there. The weather was great when we were there and the night sky is something to behold. If you've never seen a shooting star, you will see literally dozens! As for the noise.? Well yes there is a pub bordering the site but even if it was full, the population of Ullapool would be no more rowdy than the local darby and joan club. The chip shop by the Seaforth pub is best. The one opposite the ferry terminal was either shut or manned by the grumpiest old man in Scotland! We were there for 4 nights and will definitely be going back and would recommend Broomfield to anyone. You could not be more ideally situated.Shops 1 min away even Tesco a short walk. Beautiful place. Can't wait to see you again!

A reasonable site for the one night we stayed. Toilet/showers in need of updating and the close location of the pub caused some rowdy drinkers arriving back at their units late on, which after a long ride to get there that day, I wasn't amused at while trying to sleep. No sign of any security at night to keep noise down

Nice campsite. Well located. Noisy though. Noisy fellow camers and noise from nearby hotel after 11 pm and then at 4am the boats in the harbour start making a racket.
OK for 2 nights but glad I'm home so can now sleep.
Someone patrolling after 11 to quieten down large groups and returning drunks would be good, not much you can do about the early morning harbour noise.

Just a word of caution with this site. I parked (Autosleeper Symbol) about ten feet from the roadway at the seaward front of the site,(centre field area) after several days rain. When I got out of the van there were black tyre marks and the peat had come up through the grass. Concerned, I was very careful in the morning but could get nowhere without going a few feet backwards then forwards then repeating until I had a tiny slope to the roadway. I didn't know it was rock underneath and reception was shut, otherwise felt very on my own for a while especially as it was raining again and everyone else was hunkered down. Had I known the problem would have stayed several days longer as it is a super place as everyone else has said. Going back this year.

I love Ullapool. It's a really nice little town with excellent shops and plenty of places to eat. And enough dockside activity to make it feel alive. Decades ago I used to stay at the Youth Hostel, which is still there on the waterfront.
This site is sandwiched between the town and the sea loch. A great setting. I tend to avoid town-based sites during high season - too much risk of noisy drinkers. But no such problems on this mid-September visit, where my partner and I spent 3 nights during our 23 day tour of Scotland. We found plenty of suitable pitches to choose from, and opted for the area furthest from the entrance, despite being exposed to stormy conditions there. We paid £11 per night for our (non electric) 2-person tent. Beneath the turf the ground is solid enough to need strong spikes and a heavy hammer! The warden's practice of disturbing sleepers each morning before 9am to collect payments is unkind to anyone wanting a lie in after stormy nights. And we did notice someone departing early enough to escape paying. But I look forward to staying there again (though if travelling in mid-summer I would probably opt for the excellent Ardmair Bay site a few miles north, to escape any risk of rowdyness).

This site has to have some of the most glorious views to be found in a Scottish campsite. We camped right on the edge of the grass/beach and couldn't believe our luck; amazing sights looking out to sea, the incredible backdrop of the surrounding hills and every so often, the sight of ferries, ships and fishing boats coming in/out of the nearby harbour. Sunsets were awesome .Ahem, until the weather changed!
In our opinion, the toilets and shower block may be slightly dated looking but were very clean and the 20p for a 6 minute long shower was not a problem.
Ullapool, as others have said previously is a very picturesque wee town with generally some very friendly people, great selection of chip shops, pubs etc
We will definitely return but next time will take some sort of wind break as once that weather changes, there is a fierce wind blows across the site! amazing spot; well worth the long drive up to get there!
