I've stayed here 3 times for weekends during 2011. Out of the school holidays, its very cheap. I could have got this weekend (1st and 2nd October) for £11 for 2 nights with 2 adults, 2 children and 2 16 year olds (count as adults).
However I took an XL pitch, EHU and 2 cars which pushed it up to £21. We also took the option of an extra £5 to stay until 6pm on the Sunday instead of having to leave at 10am, a very nice touch and well worth the money.
The other main reason I use this site is its only 30 minutes from home so good for a weekend fix of camping.
You can take or leave the main Haven facilities and the campsite works as a campsite on its own. However there is a large arcade, eating and drinking places, swimming pool and rides. This time round we only used the Spar shop.
The site staff are definitely the plus point of this site. Very helpful. I couldn't get my EHU to work, and they came straight out to help. Turned out it was my unit and advised me where to go to get it fixed.
The pitches are level, although with the weather were very dry and dusty. The facilities are good in relation to toilets and showers and washing up areas although cleanliness did leave something to be desired. I'll discuss that later in the review. There is a small Spar shop at the campsite open 9-12 but was closed this weekend no doubt not expecting the good weather.
The one down side on this site is some of the other campers. I've never ever camped anywhere else where there seems to be a complete lack of respect for other users. Very little friendliness, no chats with the neighbours. The noise at night is awful, the litter that gets left is unbelievable, in some cases whole bin bags. This cannot be blamed on the staff.
The toilet and showers mentioned elsewhere can get really dirty and the toilets seem to get regularly blocked. The staff say that this is mainly due to kids and some adults that just don't look after and respect the facilities. They have put a coded lock on the doors since my last trip in June so that kids can be supervised better, but I never saw the doors locked all weekend.
The play area is adequate although my kids like it. There are 2 small fishing lakes which seem OK, my middle son tried it in June and enjoyed it. People seemed to be catching what looked like decent sized fish.
The weather was good on 2 of my weekends there but I also stayed in high winds and heavy rains and the site stood up to bad weather well.
Mablethorpe is OK. Not the best resort. Facilities not as extensive as other places nearby such as Skegness, but pleasant enough. There is a lovely paddling pool and complex at a pace called Queens Park which is worth checking out if you have small kids. The best point is the gorgeous beach which is very clean.
Would highly recommend the walk through the dunes opposite the entrance to the site, but not for buggies or small children or anyone with mobility issues as its quite hard work. You are then rewarded with a beautiful stretch of immaculate golden beach, hence the name Golden Sands!
In summary, would use again as cheap and local but I'd not be wanting to stay for more than the weekend and the prices charged during school holidays are not worth it in my opinion but out of season, its a bargain. I feel bad saying anything negative but I would definitely use again for the occasional weekend.

Just returned from Golden sands with my fiancé, 7yr old daughter and 15yr old sister, absolutely fantastic!
It was our first camping trip so was a little bit dubious as to whether it would suit us as we usually go in a caravan, but it was brill back to basics! Very friendly people!
We arrived at the park and were welcomed by security who directed us to the touring area. On our drive through the park first impressions were brill, very clean well kept with lots of nice little picnic areas.
We arrived at the tourers reception and was again welcomed by a very friendly staff, who told us to drive over to the electrical pitch. A warden guided us to our pitch and was very helpful! Check in was extremely busy so we applaud them for their hard work making sure everybody were ok.
Our pitch was fantastic we were really lucky only a stones throw away from the toilet/shower block and washing facilities.
The park itself where we stayed was very clean and well kept. The toilet and shower block were very clean every time I used the facilities there was a cleaner doing a fantastic job especially with all the comings and goings of everybody. There was a huge big deep bath as well as the three showers which were very lovely and warm. There was a short queue now and then which wasn't too bad. I showered in the evening which seemed to be a little quieter.
The washing facilities sinks were also very good everybody did a good job of keeping this area clean, even the children that were earning there pocket money!
There was a nice little park which I could see very well from my tent which my daughter loved, up and out every morning!
The enetertainment facilities were brill, the clubhouse isnt the biggest but they do have another very large club upstairs. We didn't go in them at night to be honest which actually saved us a small fortune as haven prices are quite rediculous but if you usually do haven its to be expected!
Actvities for my daughter and teenage sister were brill from bradleys teddy bear picnic to walker walkers again, be expected to splash the cash!
The beach was about 15 min walk through the park and over the sand dunes, lovely clean beach lots of families all having fun but not too over crowded. There is a sand train which goes up and down the beach which cost us around £3 for 4 of us straight up the beach from mablethorpe! coming off the beach there is a pub which is fantastic. We decided to have a meal here and for 4 of us for a proper meal it cost £20! food was delicious and very filling, we really enjoyed the atmosphere in here and what turned out to be tea ended up being a night out. They had children's entertainment and karaoke. The pub has a nice outdoor area and an aracade to keep the children happy whilst adults have a few cheeky drinks! Football is shown here it even has a large screen tv at the window which can be watched from outside if nice! Think this pub was called the ferry boat inn???
Anyway all in all very enjoyabe stay 10/10 in my books!

Just arrived back from a five night break to this site. Staff very friendly and helpful toilet/showers very clean as was pot washing area.
The activities on site was great what I used as spent most time out and about excellent train running from site entrance to mablethorpe which was great fun for kids and adults.
The only problem I had was lack of time to see and do everything we wanted so are planing another visit very soon. My grandchildren aged four and a year old didn't want to leave.
Even the locals were really friendly and helpful.

Just got back today from our first visit to golden sands and our first caravan adventure.
Got to say we had a brilliant time. The site is really good with lots of activities, obviously you spend a fortune if you have kids! we booked 6 pre-payed activities as it was cheaper. The kids did hamster balls, archery and aqua gliders (their favs). The pool guys were superb, really made the kids feel at home. The changing rooms were boiling and the pool was warm enough and very clean and there's no deep area so kids never felt scared.
The outside pool was great and has a lovely shallow area and a great slide that even the smaller ones can use as it has a shallow area to drop into. The fair was pricey but a great atmosphere and there's a good play area next to it.
We ate in the restaurant next to the live lounge. The menu was superb and wasn't overly priced. I had a cheese and tomato tart with onion pastry and chips. It was so nice I had it 3 nights running! it was like home made. My hubs had a gourmet burger with Stilton and it arrived on a wooden platter with a little mini basket of chips, really eye pleasing. Kids had a pick n mix meal (3. 95) and all excellent quality. We have to say we were surprised at the quality of the meals. The staff were all really friendly too.
The live lounge shows were really good entertainment. 2 singing guys were so funny and a very good magic man, who was very good with the kids. The wrestling in the afternoon was brilliant we all had a right old boo and hiss.
We were in the touring area, next to a little park and the toilet/shower block. Its a 10 min walk to the main site. It was great as all the kids played and made lots of friends.
The only downer of the holiday was the toilet/shower block, they were a bit grim. Never saw them being cleaned. The showers were too cold for me so I used my caravan shower plus you have to keep pressing the silly button.
The toilets are hard to flush so were really not nice. The same with the sinks, they were covered in toothpaste and shaving debris as the taps have to be held on so obviously people weren't bothering to rinse after using them. Just glad we did have our own facilities.
We would go again as we had a fab time, spent loads but our kids were happy and that's what holiday are all about.

First impressions were OK- what we expected really. We chose a spot which was spacious but then began to regret it when it started raining and the area of grass outside our tent became a mud track- it got so bad that cars were driving round it!
The site itself isn't very impressive- no thought's been put into making it look nice so no nice flowers etc. It really wouldn't take a lot to put all of these above negative points right.
The worst thing for us was definitely the toilet block. The dirtiest toilets I've seen on a campsite. As far as I saw, the cleaners just come in of a morning and you wouldn't even know they'd been there.
On the plus side, the beach was lovely! Don't think I'll be returning there even with the cheap half price deal.

Just returned from the golden sands for the first time. For a large site like this one apart from the weather (rain) a real nice site overall.
Toilet block very clean and also has a bath, pot wash area was ok but would have been better if other campers cleaned the sink after using them.
The children's playground would benefit from some baby swings, the indoor soft play area is a good size with ball pools, slides and soft shapes, the camp shop could stop open a bit longer 3 hours (9-12am) not that long, but the main shop is not that far to walk only 5mins and opens till late evening.
The only real fault we found was the chip shop over priced and not very good £16. 80 for fish & chips x2 plus 2 sausages with 1 portion of chips no high chairs for the little ones.
You have to walk through the amusement arcade to get to the rest of the site, with every ride costing £1. 00 it gets very expensive. Swimming pool was alright, no time restrictions, didn't try outdoor pool as indoor pool was cold enough. We only used the bar twice but is priced ok and the beer is not that bad.
Opposite Haven site is a seal and wildlife sanctuary good value for money kept kids entertained and very nice pub have been told they do good food but not tried ourselves.
Mablethorpe is only 5min drive down the road not attempted to walk with 4yr old and 20mth old lots of typical seaside shops and attractions, donkeys, arcades, also has 2 supermarkets bigger and better selection than site shops.
Now we know to what to avoid and were to shop we are thinking of returning later this year and would recommend this site for a good value for money all weather family holiday.

What can I say other than a fantastic site! Pitches are well maintained and laid out well, It has a small paper shop with the basics like milk and bread up at the tent site as well as a main shop for the whole haven site a short walk away that is well stocked and not too pricey. There is also local supermarkets a short drive away that are a bit cheaper.
There is excellent facilities with the shower and toilet block very well maintained, they are cleaned every morning, we were there when it was a very hot week and a lot of kids who had had a lot of fun playing with toilet paper and water but was cleaned up the next day.
We were able to pitch next to the park so we could watch the kids play while we relaxed. You get free passes so you can use the Haven facilities like the pool and entertainment, I would say always have your cards to hand as you will be asked every time on the door for them so you can get in. There is fast food available on site and bar restaurant.
There is lots to offer and they do great camping deals through the year making it a very affordable holiday. Their is electric huck ups for the pitches, and your quite well sheltered if you pitch near the park. Their is a elsan point and plenty of pot wash sinks with very hot water.
Your a short walk to the beach and sea life sanctuary as well as Mablethorpe itself. Your near the land train and sand train and bus routes if your too tired to walk.
Staff are very friendly and are willing to help and will accommodate to your needs and will try and pitch you where you would like to be, I will say on very busy times pre book if your a group if you want to be close as they will assign a pitch to you.
Cant wait to come again. Thanks for a great holiday!

We are regular campers at Golden Sands and we absolutely love it there. We spent Friday-Monday in our trailer tent in April and during the day it was glorious but a little chilly at night but with the help of a fan heater and a few extra layers we survived!
This site caters for everyone, young and old alike, my little boy aged 4 is never bored there and the other half enjoys his fishing.
The touring site was very organised compared to our visit last year which can only be a good thing. We were given an option of three different pitches by one of the guys on site and he even offered to help us pitch but we were fine. For April the site was very busy.
We paid around £35. 00 for Friday-Monday and have just booked a week in July for £84. 00 for 7 nights. Can't fault it. The bar meals are excellent and the entertainment is varied. The beach is literally across the road, very clean and tidy and the Seal Sanctuary is definitely worth a visit. Mablethorpe Town Centre is only a short walk away and has plenty to offer.
We are looking to book for August and have suggested we perhaps look at Norfolk but the chances are we'll be back to Mablethorpe too!

We got a very good deal for 3 nights stay. We stayed on grass pitch as there were no electric pitches available.
Our first time camping and I was really worried about the toilets, and shower facilities. However they looked quite new and were clean and private. I would describe them best as similar to swimming baths cubicles with a dry cubicle for changing and a separate shower cubicle. Unfortunately one morning the water was freezing however when I reported it they were aware of the issue and were quick to respond as the pilot light had gone out during the night.
The area was lovely and plenty of entertainment for the family. Lovely beech access and the campsite is close to mablethorpe town centre.
On site there is also a small playground area for the children. And a large fishing lake for anyone who enjoys fishing.

I have never been camping before and saw an offer on Havens website for a weekend at golden sands for £24 so I booked it! I then looked into the reviews and upon reading them thought the weekend was going to be horrendous, however we had a lovely time!
The sat nav took us to the main entrance and they happily pointed us towards the touring reception who were very helpful and showed us the pitch where we would be staying which was very flat.
There are 3 washing up sinks where you can get drinking water from which are under the shelter. There is also a brand new toilet and shower block which was bleached every morning and whenever I went in it was always clean. The floor does get quite slippy and sometimes in the evenings there is no toilet roll, but the actual cleanliness was fine. I heard the hot water was not great first thing in the morning, however when we showered before going for dinner (around 4pm) they were lovely and warm.
You can check in from 12 and as soon as our tent was up we walked over to the main complex to have a look around (the walk took just a little over 5 minutes). To get anywhere on the park you have to walk through the arcade which with a young child can be a little frustrating, however it is not massive so you wont be spending a fortune in there.
We had a look through the info pack and booked our 3 year old in for a mini fencing and a mini archery lesson both of which were free and as the caravan people cannot check in until later in the afternoon both classes were empty when we went to book.
You do need to pay for the funfair rides and some of these are a little over priced, however the bouncy castle is free. There is a park on the main complex and also one in the touring area.
The indoor pool has a flume which my little boy loved, the changing rooms are not very big and are quite dark which made me feel a little claustrophobic, but the actual pool was fine with a large shallow area where he could splash about.
The touring shop is more expensive than the spar on the main site so stock up whilst you are there! It is also only open from 9-12 so when you check in you cannot purchase any snacks or anything.
The funstars were lovely and my little boy loved them! They were always happy to dance with the children and made everybody feel very welcome always smiling and saying hello as you passed them around the site.
Another thing which I loved was the indoor soft play centre, great for when its a little cold or rainy outside.
I cannot comment on the local area as there was so much to do on site that we did not leave all weekend! There is beach access from the site and it was sandy and very clean.
I thought this park was a lovely place to spend my first camping trip and my little boy adored it, so we are hoping to go back there soon.
