We paid £54 for a four night stay which was a bargain. We went as two families so there was myself and hubby and daughter(Two and a half) and then hubby's brother, wife and son (seven).
We arrived at 12pm which was the stated check in time, although there were people already pitching tents etc, so I assume had we arrived earlier then there wouldn't have been a problem. We live in Lincoln so was only an hours drive for us, hubby's brother lives in Scotland so had a longer journey. We arrived first and explained that we needed two pitches together and that the other party would be arriving shortly. We were shown to our pitch by really helpful cheery staff and they then advised us to park our car on the adjoining pitch to 'reserve' it until the other half of our party arrived.
There were two toilet blocks, one which was newer that the other (the newer one is situated next to the touring reception). The toilets and showers were cleaned 3-4 times per day, but got grubby pretty quickly owing to the large numbers of campers/caravanners. Plenty of loo roll! In the older shower block there was a huge bath which my daughter loved, I even had a bath one night myself as opposed to a shower and found it relatively relaxing.
The water points are a bit of a pain, as it is a push tap system which takes forever to fill anything and can be a bit fiddly. I appreciate this is so that taps are not left running constantly, but most of us campers are responsible people.
There is a small children's play park in the ouring area, which was always busy and kept the kids amused.
The touring site is separate from the rest of the park, which suited us just fine (15 min walk to main complex). To be perfectly honest we only ventured to the main complex twice, once during the day to go swimming and once at night to go to the club house. As has been mentioned before it could be pretty expensive should you choose to spend most of your days/nights in the main complex.
Mablethorpe itself is a typical seaside town, with amusement arcades etc and would benefit from some investment/modernisation. There is a large coop a few mins drive from the site for any shopping you may require. There is also a spar shop on site which in itself was fairly large but as you can imagine was more expensive.
There was a carvey/pub again a few mins drive or twenty min walk from the park. We ate there on the last night of our stay and the food was good and both the food and drink was reasonably priced.
The beach was beautiful and very clean.
It was windy, but not overly so. We expected some wind as it was on the coast and were prepared for some gusts. We still put up the premium extension on our vango vista and had no problems what so ever.
All in all a great time was had by all for what was a bargin price.

We went with our friends and my parents (3 caravans). The beach at Mablethorpe was lovely and the price was good (£63 for 7 nights)but there the only things that were good. Don't think toilets had been cleaned properly all week. Also lots of noise in the mornings and at night, some campers don't seem to respect other people. I might go again if the price was right and we were guaranteed good weather and the toilets were cleaner. We use sites mainly in Norfolk and they can be a lot quieter and cleaner and yes they are family sites as we have 4 children

We stayed here during October half term, choosing this Haven site so that there would be plenty of entertainment for the children. We wont be going back. The euro pitch we had booked was a block of concrete with no access road,so to get to your hardstanding pitch you had to drive across the grass. By the end of the week the grass was not in a good state. There was no tv point on the services turret and the waste drain was an exposed grey waste pipe. They advertise improved toilets for 2010, but the toilet block nearest the hardstanding field was closed, apparently due to vandalism. This meant driving to the other toilet block to shower the children. Not ideal. A bath in the toilet block was a great idea. Just a shame someone had taken the plug!
Luckily we were not on the grass touring field, this was a complete mud bath.
On a positive note the children's entertainment was good with a different show every night. The food in the restaurant was nice and arrived promptly. Mablethorpe was ok and the beach is nice. The seal sanctuary is worth a visit. Overall I would not recommend this site. It has a 4 star tourist board rating which may apply to the park facilities, but their touring area is more like 1 star. Other problems on the park included damage to the outdoor playground in the main complex, the gents toilets in the soft play area were out of order,a nd one of the cubicles in the ladies toilet was closed all week. Repairs are obviously left until shutdown before they are attended to.
For very little cost the touring area could be vastly improved, and repairs should be attended to more swiftly. Facilities for tourers, tents and motorhomes are just not good enough. Overall not an ideal touring site.

Just as a note in the brochure it advertises the pitches as being flat, they are not or at least the ones we were on. We were told on our arrival that this site didn't allow gazebos because someone accidentality set fire to one. My question is, if someone sets fire to a tent would you ban all tents? We had to cook in our tent which more dangerous than cooking under a gazebo wouldn't you agree?
The main problem was the toilet and shower blocks. They are the worst we have ever had to use. This touring site had around 200 tents and with on average of 3-4 per tent. That is in total around 600-800 people all using about 12 showers, 12 toilets and only one disabled shower / toilet. That could be as much as 60 people per shower and toilet. There were always queues for the showers and toilets. The worst part about the showers is that they were stone cold, not even close to warm, stone cold! While we were there we could hear as usual kids screaming because they didn't want a cold shower. In fact my kids didn't have shower the entire time we stayed. They are too cold and yet hot taps on the basins were way too hot! So hot that sons burnt his hands!
There were also other issues with the shower blocks. Half the time there were no toilet rolls or soap. The water pressure on the for basin is too high. You get completely soaked every time you use them. The drinking water taps dotted around the site have the same problem. In the women's showers, one of the showers was permanently on the whole time of our holiday. The baths have no plugs. One of the members of our party had to use their babies socks to use as a plug. The toilets and showers were constantly dirty. They weren't cleaned enough, just once or twice a day. The staff finished at 6pm and no one is around to clean till 8 the next day. 6pm is the busiest time. Everyone is getting ready to go out for the evening and when this busy period is over there is no one to clean and they are then in a poor state until the morning.
The washing up area was not kept clean. Each time you had to scrub the sinks before they could be used.
The entertainment club was so hot my wife had to stand outside with our baby so he didn't overheat while our other little one was in the club. In the end we all left because it was too hot. I think it is a ploy to make people buy drinks. I think also the staff running the kids club need to be re-trained. They had the volume so loud that the power kept cutting out due to the safety device that limits the volume. After that experience with the club on that Saturday we didn't use it again for the rest of our stay.
The swimming pool had the same problem as the shower blocks, too cold. We used it once, in fact the outside pool was that cold the kids in our party refused to use it and for the size of the complex the inside pool was very small.
One of the days of our stay it rained, so one of our party decide to use the soft play area. She returned 10mins later saying that the roof was leaking, the balls were wet, it smelt damp and she wasn't going to let her kids play in conditions like that.
Final Note: The website said that the beach is just across the road. It is actually across the road and over a large sand dune. This made it impossible for one of the children in party that is wheelchair bound or anyone with a buggy or pram.
Wont be going back again!

On arrival we were shown to our pitch and although the pitch was large enough we had paid for 2 cars on the pitch and this made it a tight squeeze as our neighbours had 2 large vans too. The camping area is quite a distance from the main complex which is where the entertainment and swimming pool are. It takes about 10 minutes to walk it.
The toilets and showers were dirty day and night despite the cleaners tick chart always being up to date. On the last day one of the staff was actually jet washing the inside of whole block while people were still inside. Also the bins outside the toilets were overflowing and maybe could do with emptying more often.
The playground area was well kept and and most other areas of the tent field seemed of a good standard too, although not much in the camping reception shop.
I wouldn't return to this site because of the cleanliness of the toilet facilities. But the rest of the site and the mablethorpe area was lovely.

This is a delayed review of golden sands.
I just spent 5 nights there for a cheap price with electric hookup.
I felt that there was not enough entertainment near by since I stayed in a tent far away from the entertainment complex, it took 13 minute walk to get there. However you could rent these go karts (non electric) for the day which you could go around on. The facilities was poor. Where I was, there was as a portaloo which was dirty and small and it felt uncomfortable but it was ok for the night if you needed the toilet but there was a nice clean toilet block 3 minutes walk away which is good. If you want something like a shower it is highly recommend that you go there instead.
The Pitches were lumpy and not very big with a 21 feet max limit. But it was not that bad.
The entertainment was fine but at complicated to get to when you first go there. You are not alloud in there without a card called a Funworks pass. The bar's beer was bad and very watered down, which many people complained about.
On the site they have a football pitch, playgrounds, Toddler rides, Water walkerz (Water Zorbing), Climbing and dodgems in the entertainment area, the climbing and zorbing is highly over priced and dodgems are 2 pounds.
There is fishing on site it is only £4 for a daily pass.
There was some food shops on site including fish and chip shop and a papa jones pizza (very over priced), to get normal food there is a shop in the touring reception and spar. We Brought most of our own food but it didn't matter since we had a minifridge what we powered with the electric hook-up.
There is a Swiming pool indoor and outdoor. The outdoor one is not heated and the large slide you see is never open for a lond time. The indoor pool is heated and has a small slide.
But it is free it costs 20p to use the lockers though and you don't get the money back at the end.
The town is very good with arcades and a bunch of cafes. There is a supermarket co-operative in there which is usefull for big shops. There is a funfair down the road where everything is £1 after 7PM until 10PM. The beach was perfect. They had a nice mr whippy there what was very cheap and a Faamous Sand Train which was good to get to the other end of the beach for 70p and £1.60 for a scenic view loop. I think that you should go there on a nice sunny day and just have a stroll along the beach that was my higlight of the camping trip for me.
The weather was not great with massive winds what took our windbreak down but our tent stayed up. There was a massive ammount of rain as well but there were nice times where it was hot and sunny.
Overall I think this is a good campsite if the weather was better and there was more toilet blocks.

Camped here for 1 week this month with other half and 2 children aged 5 and 2. Chose Haven so there would be lot's to occupy the little ones.
Positives:
1. Excellent sized pitch(The meadows field)
2. MASSIVE bath in both mens and womens toilet block.Like a jaccuzi as fills very fast. Loved this.
3. 10 min walk to lovely big beach which has beach train rides and sand dunes etc.
4. Great night entertainment for the kids.
5. Play area on touring pitch for the kids.
Negatives:
1. Toilet block quite often dirty and 2-3 toilets blocked each day (hubby even said he witnessed the cleaning guy come in, hang around, sign the cleaning form and walk out!)
2. VERY VERY windy.I mean I read the past reviews and still under estimated how constant and strong the gales are on the east coast.
3. Only 3 showers for all our touring field waited every time went for one regardless of time of day.
4. Mablethorpe itself is a bit dated with no decent restaurants for the odd night you want to eat out but if you like chips/burgers/amusement arcades and slot machines you will be fine.
5. Pool area small and really jam packed. Slide good though.
6. Take LOADS of pound coins because you have to walk through the amusement arcade on site to get to anything!
All in all we had a great time and the kids really enjoyed it which is what you want. This was our first time at a commercial site but sadly I don't think we would do it again.

Just returned from Golden Sands, arrived at 11am checked in, staff were great and was taken to our pitch, which was great. We pitched out tent, unpacked then looked around. I wish we had looked around first.
The ladies toilets 3 were blocked, no toilet roll, only 2 showers working, and the small was very bad. Even my 7 year old made a comment on how bad the toilets were. My husband said the gents were in a bad state also. This was at 1.30 pm and it go worse as the day went on. The cleaner went over, but at no time in the day was the toilets unblocked, or the toilet rolls filled up. The sinks looked as if they had not been cleaned for weeks. We did complain about the state of the toilets, however was advised that they were short of staff, (so they only do half a job). The outside washing up area had no bins to put waste food in, so it was just left in the sinks, and not enough for the size of the site.
We had booked to stay for 4 nights however left after the 2nd night.
There should have been a little train running from the camp site to the complex however this was not running, which then involved a 20 min walk. The complex is very good, plenty to do for the kids, the pool area is great.
The beach is a short walk away from the site and make a great place run and walk with the kids and dogs.

We stayed at Golden Sands from friday to sunday and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was plenty there to amuse our 3 year old son. We pitched close to the toilet/shower block which in the main was kept very clean although the ladies was in rather a state on the sunday morning but think that was more to do with the people using the facility rather than any lack of staff trying to keep it maintained and clean. We showered in an evening and there was plenty of hot water, whereas the masses tended to use them first thing in a morning. We had a couple of meals in the restaurant on site and were reasonably impressed. The beach was infested with little black flies but we still spent a good few hours on it playing with our son. We had a walk round the shops, had fish and chips which were lovely. On the friday night it threw it down with rain and it got quite windy but we were fine and our tent stayed warm and dry.
Would definitely revisit Golden Sands and since our visit we have made a few adjustments to our tent and facilities. ie Sleeping/cooking arrangements and have invested in electric hook up.

We (2 + 2 children) visited this site in June this year for 2 nights which we booked a week in advance and paid £36.
The wind was really bad and the camping field which is situated a 15 - 20 minute walk from the complex center did not offer much at all in the way of protection.
Fortunately we took our long stay tent which stood the 50+mph winds without a worry; we couldn’t say the same for the few who had major problems.
The toilet block was a porta cabin with 3 showers that were totally inadequate, out of date. Too small filthy
The complex centre was very popular and turned out to be a hit with us all, drink prices were reasonable with a wide range available.
The Pizza shop inside the bar was a little strange and very expensive.
The amusement arcades were again very popular as winnings are paid out in tokens and exchanged for toys/games etc however, when the exchange booth closes early on Saturday nights and doesn’t open on Sunday mornings before everyone leaves the site you not able to exchange the tokens you have won
The local area is just so dull and needs some serious investment, all you have are arcades, fish and chips and bric-a-brac market stalls selling cheap plastic tat!
To summarise then, the site is about the best place in the area for entertainment albeit in our opinion for no more that a 2 night stay if you are camping.
