Just had a lovely 2 night stay at this campsite. The booking system was really easy and straightforward over the phone with the friendly wardens. When we arrived we were shown around the well kept site and given a choice of where we wanted to pitch our tent. We opted for the tent area at the back of the site which was flat and well laid out. We could have also pitched nearer to the toilet and shower block opposite the caravans. The free showers and toilets were kept spotlessly clean throughout the whole of our stay, and there were even free hairdryers in the block. The site was quiet during the night with all the visitors respecting the 11pm till 7am quiet time.

Masham was about a 10 minute walk from the campsite, either using the footpath across a field, or pathway along the road, and had some nice pubs to sample the local brews! We ate at the Kings Head pub one evening and would recommend it for a good pub meal. We also went into the tourist information office and were given some really good advice on varying length walks in the area without taking the car. We didn't visit the breweries on this visit, as the weather was too good to waste, but would do so if in the area again.

The only thing that I think the campsite could have done with is a water tap towards the camping area at the back, but that really is a tiny niggle about what is overall a fantastic site.

We will definitely be returning to this one!

This was our first time at the Old Station Holiday Park and it certainly will not be our last! From booking our pitch on the phone to arriving, setting up and leaving at the end of our two-night stay, everything was superb and hassle free.

The Old Station is easy to find along good roads (we left the A1 at J50) and well sign-posted. The site itself was spotless and clearly very well maintained. Pitches were level and we were given the choice of grass or hard-standing. The grass pitch we chose was only 30m from the amenities block but, due to the compact nature of the site, no-one has far to go wherever you are set up.

The showers and toilets were immaculately kept and more than adequate in number for this site. Water temperature spot on and everything as it should be.

Regarding its location, the Old Station is so convenient for the lovely market town of Masham, which is no more than a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive away. The town is a lovely place with excellent pubs, cafés, a fish & chip shop, butchers, two breweries (with visitor centres), sweet shops and an art gallery. The newly built Co-op is excellent for supplies. Should you wish to travel further afield, Ripon, Lightwater Valley, Forbidden Corner, Fountains Abbey, Brimham Rocks and umpteen great places to visit are all only a reasonably short and pleasant journey away.

Our only (very slight) disappointment was that the on-site café/restaurant wasn't open during our stay due to staffing problems (very clearly explained in a notice on the door) and I hope it is something that the owners can soon rectify.

I would recommend the site to anyone wanting a pleasant and relaxing stay any it won't be long before we're back!

This is a nice little site. Reasonable price £7. 50 pn/1 person (many sites penalise single campers), good facilities which are included in the price.

The camping area is a nice woodland paddock away from the caravans, but looks like they use a strip of grass opposite the caravans for camping.

Flat well maintained grass. Could do with a water tap nearer to the paddock, but believe they used to have but had some problems with it.

For those wishing to go into Masham it's a 10-15 walk along the road or across a flat field. 4 good pubs and a restaurant in the village.

There is a bus stop at the gate of the site that is on the Richmond - Ripon route.

Visited this campsite towards the end of May. The site is flat and the toilets were spotlessly clean.

The receptionist was friendly and efficient.

It is quite a small site, and the tent area is towards the back of the site, well away from the road, which was good as the road was busier than we expected. The pitches are quite small but the owner said we could spread out as the site was quiet.

The site is a little further out of Masham than we expected, but it was a pleasant walk.

The website says there are no provision for tent hook ups, but when we got there we found there were - this was annoying as we would have preferred to hook up. The owner did say the website was going to be updated. The website also mentions the cafe- but a note on the door says this is about to close due to the retirement of the chef.

We would definitely stay here again - my only minor issue is that unhooked up part of the tent area is under a line of trees. This might mean the tents are in shade (we did not see the sun!), but it did rain quite a bit whilst we were there, and every time there was a gust of wind the tent had a noisy deluge of water from the trees- not conducive to sleep.

As we are new to caravanning, we wanted to go somewhere not too far from our home, and had looked at sites in the York area, but couldn't get booked so we started to look at the other side of the A1 area in North Yorkshire, and after reading the reviews on here, decided to try the Old Station as a first foray.

The only minor problem was as it was bank holiday weekend, and all the sites we had tried to book, stipulated 3 nights for the weekend, which, because I was on standby to work on the Monday, ruled a lot of places out as they wouldn't be flexible in allowing us only 2 nights.

Step forward the Old Station.

We managed to get their last caravan pitch, (There is also a tent area as well. ) and they were excellent in my plight about a 2 night stay, and we were very pleased that they did.

On arrival, the booking in was a very pleasant experience, and the building that houses the reception, also has the cafe upstairs. On the walls is a pictorial history of the station as it was before closing in the 60's, which I found absolutely fascinating. The whole area inside was spotless, and as well as the cafe, it also houses the small shop which sells the essentials should you need them.

On the way to our pitch, which was at the far end of the row that houses the toilet block, it was obvious to see that the place was well cared for, but I couldn't help noticing that the pitches were a little on the small side, however it didn't bother us, as we hadn't intended to use the awning.

Once sited and hooked up, it was time to inspect the amenities, which were also spotless, and obviously thought out well. The water point and the waste were to the exterior of the building, as were the bins. So far so good.

The site is a dog friendly site, which was a very important point for us when choosing this weekend, as we have a small dog, and dogs must be kept on leads at all times, although this wasn't always the case, but being dog lovers, were didn't say anything.

Masham village is a mere few hundred yards away, and we were lucky that the market was on the weekend we were there, so we managed to help the local economy along, by buying some local food items which were VERY nice. A trip to Fountains Abbey was also done so that we could do a long dog walk.

All in all, an excellent very clean and tidy site with an interesting history behind it.

So. Were there any minus points?

Well 2 very small ones come to mind:

The size of the pitches.

The showers were not very warm at around 9:30am. I guess this is because the hot system cannot heat the water quick enough to supply the demand put on it.

That said, we would go back the Old Station again, and would recommend others do so.

We had a lovely stay at the weekend and also had glorious weather.

We arrived on Friday night and the lady was lovely and helpful and we pitched up quickly close to the showers and toilets. Flat pitches.

The pitches are small and close together, our only criticism of the site.

Showers and toilets are excellent, exceptionally clean warm, spacious, free hot water and bathroom tiles on the walls.

Pot washing facilities again all very convenient and waste disposal all together.

There is a cafe on the site and it was very good, we had lunch on Saturday and the food was great, real chips. We were lucky to be able to sit outside in the sunshine. The staff were very obliging.

A little shop on site which offers all of the basics you would expect.

A short walk of 0. 8 miles to the centre of Masham which is a lovely town and we sampled the Black Sheeps beer, which is my husband's favourite tipple.

Most enjoyable and if we want to go to Masham again, we would use this site again.

My husband and I have just had 4 wonderful nights stay here. Originally had booked for just 3, but enjoyed the site and Masham decided to stay another night!

We arrived Sunday lunchtime and we were warmly greeted and booked in. The site was pretty quiet so we were given the choice a pitch to take. The site is easily accessible from the road and is level, grassed with a single track. We were lucky enough to pitch near a water stand, but the toilet block and facilities are very close, regardless of which pitch you are on.

The toilet/shower block is modern and clean and also house’s a laundry and information room. Showers are free to use.

TV reception was good, although we could not get free view so used our satellite, radio and mobile phone (02) were OK. There are booster TV aerials available too.

Masham is a lovely 10-15 minute walk along a path by the road, crossing the River Ure. Masham is very picturesque and the tourist information office in the square has a guide around the town. The church is well worth a visit, so are the two breweries. There are also several tearooms.

We booked the Theakston brewery on the day we visited. It takes about 40 minutes to go around, its interesting enough, but is not very professionally presented, however the beer tasting at the end made up for it!

The Black Sheep Brewery is definitely worth a trip, but book in advance particularly in the holiday season. The trip was very well presented and took around 1 hour 20 minutes. The entry includes a ½ pint of beer!

Although the Black Sheep brewery has a bistro (open only certain nights), there is the White Bear hotel next door which does excellent food. Also in the square there is the Bay Horse Inn, which again the food was very good (lovely homemade chips!) and across the way is the Bruce Arms which has a lovely beer garden. There is also the Red Lion Hotel in the square.

The town also has some lovely deli shops, post office, off sales and just outside the town centre there is a small Co-op.

All in all I would highly recommend the site for exploring the area; we have booked again to go for the Sheep Fair at the end of September and are looking forward to it already!

We have just Returned from the Old Station Caravan Park where we stayed for 3 nights over the August bank holiday weekend.

We will start with our only negative of the place which was when we made a telephone reservation for our caravan and our friend's tent, 12 days prior to our arrival. £25 & £20 per night for caravan (2x Adults 2x Children) & tent (2x Adults 1x Child) respectively, which we thought was a reasonable price considering it was a bank holiday weekend.

The day before we were due to go we realised the deposit had not been debited from our account. When we rang the receptionist told us the site was full as there had been a mix up. To cut a long story short they had a cancellation and managed to fit us in and they took a payment over the phone.

On our arrival we had to inform them that due to a family bereavement that morning our friends were unable to come. We were then told that there wasn't any room left for tents anyway, although they still kept the £10 deposit we had paid! We had brought our friend's child which they then charged us an extra £12 for. So it wasn't so reasonably priced after all! In protest we did not use the on site cafe or shop.

We found the site nice and flat, if not a little compact and a bit water logged in places, which was to be expected after the wet summer we have had. The toilet/shower block was clean and probably about the right size for this small site.

One of the men's cubicles did run out of toilet paper on the day of our departure (not a nice experience!).

A note to the owner, a lot of sites now have a mop & bucket available for when campers have used the showers.

The Warden was friendly and very helpful when pitching up. He could always be found around the site and offered advice for walking & local attractions.

Masham is a nice little typical North Yorkshire town. It has a co-op for the essentials and various other shops & cafes offering locally produced goods.

The TV reception is rather poor and we could not pick up any digital signal.

A must for a day out is Brimham Rocks about 8 miles away, you will not be disappointed!. It's a National Trust site and you only have to pay for parking (£4 up to 3hrs, £5 all day) which is free for NT members. There are pathways around 320 million year old rock formations of all shapes and sizes which are guaranteed to amaze everyone. Take your own food or use the reasonably priced kiosk and enjoy the views while sitting at the picnic tables. You are allowed to climb all of the rocks (not for the feint hearted) but please ensure children are closely supervised.

Overall a good weekend was had.

Beautiful and well looked after site approximately 1 mile from pubs and a very well stocked Co-op in Masham (Co-op and a petrol station on the main road through the town just past the right hand turn for the Black Sheep Brewery and the Theakstons White Bear bar/hotel).

High season and the facilities were beyond reproach! All clean and well stocked. Site staff were courteous and pleasant. £20 for the night including electric I didn't think was bad at all.

We will definitely be back! (Note 'Child friendliness' rating is entered with no understanding of how good the place is for kids, but the ones we saw seemed to be having a good time!)

With the gear in the back of the car, we decided the weather was sufficient enough in Masham to try and find a spot to camp for the night. I noticed that the site only had 10 tent slots and it was the first week of the school holidays, so didn't expect to get in at 5pm and was surprised to find that there was enough space for us.

When we arrived, we were greeted warmly by an attendant (who I had spoken to on the phone)and who seemed to be doing all sorts of jobs to keep the site maintained and assist people.

We were given a couple of options of where to pitch, including either a strip of grass amongst the caravans or a specific section reserved for tents. We chose the latter.

All spots were marked out (for both tents and caravans) and were more than spacious for our 4-man Quechua tent, but I'd imagine a larger family tent might struggle if they want awnings. As there were only 2 other tents in the section, it really wasn't a problem, but I could imagine it would be more noticeable when full. The tent area is surrounded by trees and is fairly protected from the winds. Cars must be parked on the edge of the area, but are still close enough to any of the pitches to make it close enough to carry any equipment the short distance to the plots.

We were pleasantly surprised at how good the facilities were on site: a good toilet/shower block that was always clean. The showers were free and were nice and private. As we were only there for the one night, I didn't end up using them but wouldn't have hesitated if I was staying longer.

There was also a small room with two sinks for washing up, a freezer for ice packs and two washing machines. The facilities were rather crammed in, but perfectly usable; I would imagine a degree of patience would be required if the site is full.

Also available were standard water tap and waste disposal area.

Also on site is a restaurant which we didn't get chance to try, but looked a decent size and fairly modern.

Masham is only a 10-15 minute walk away from the site (we did the Black Sheep Brewery tour which is also recommended) and plenty of the Dales towns and villages are drivable.

Overall, the site had a nice feel to it and was clearly well run with the visitors in mind. It didn't appear overrun with rules and considering all facilities were free, seemed decent value to me. Would definitely visit again if I'm planning a stay in the area.
