Visited this site within 6 weeks of our first visit. Lovely site and very clean. Good facilities and easy walk into Masham. Only negative points are no dogs allowed in restaurant but are allowed on site? ( can not leave my dog in tent whilst going for something to eat ). Also, I ended up with 30+ bent tent pegs due to the rocky ground. Take plenty of spares. Will use this site again and have already recommended it to others.

We visited in late September 2009. This was the 'sheep fair' weekend!
The tent pitch area has very rocky ground so bent pegs are almost a given. It's also right at the back of the site in an area surrounded by high tree covered bankings, so the sun was only really visible for about 3 hours a day (at this time of year, when you want to see as much sun as possible). At the top of one of these bankings was an disused railway bridge which some of the visiting children took to throwing stones from until chastised by the warden.
The pitches were also quite small, we really struggled to fit our Outwell Nebraska XL between the lines. Tent owners were not able to park cars next to the tents.
We have 3 children ( 9, 6 and 3) who were not allowed to visit the toilet block unaccompanied, fair enough for the 3 year old but the other 2 are perfectly capable of simple ablutionary tasks. They are also not allowed to ride their bikes, play football, etc. This on a site with no other form of play activity for kids. All these rules are plain to see on the many signs dotted around the site. However, the AA camping and caravanning guide (2009) clearly states 'no fast cycling around site'. As our kids are still small we took the bikes, after all, how fast can a small child go? As it turns out, not very!
We didn't visit the restaurant as it seemed very expensive and the children's menu was not on view.
We had a pitch with EHU which was paid for in advance and operated by a card. This kept on cutting out on us.
On the plus side, the site was very clean and the toilet block and showers were well maintained, no shortage of hot water and loo rolls. The washing up area is adequate for the purpose if a little on the 'snug' side.
Another plus point is the time of year we went, ie the Masham sheep fair. There's loads to do and keep everyone entertained for at least one whole day. All 3 of our kids had a great day, the dog was in his element and real ale is ok once a year. Worth visiting and we will go back to Masham again but not to the Old Station.
I don't want to be too harsh on the place but just to say it as we found it, this is probably a good campsite if you don't have kids.

Just returned from this site after bank holiday weekend. Nice easy check in on arrival with clear directions to our pitch. On arrival to our pitch it was very difficult to reverse the caravan onto the pitch due to how close the tents were pitched opposite. The pitch was clearly marked out with a white line however once we put the porch awning up there was no room to park the car! The caravan behind us was literally back to back with us so any noise from either caravan could clearly be heard.
As mentioned previously the smell is awful certainly unable to sit out on our very small area of grass to eat. Positive side in a lovely position to walk into Masham, which has plenty of pubs a lovely places to eat and a selection of shops. There is also a lovely walk as you walk in which was very helpful as the site has nowhere for dogs to be exercised.
Toilets were lovely and clean showers were a little small everything gets wet. Always kept clean. Cafe is done out lovely with a good selection available but could be very costly for a family to eat out.

Booked in this site at last minute after camping somewhere else for 4 nights and deciding to extend our break.
Was recommended this site by my parents who have stayed here with the caravan.
Really good, quick check in.
No problem with the pitch, nice and level, not too boggy considering there had been quite a bit of rain.
The only problems we had were caused by our neighbours pitching too close to our tent and foul language and noise. This is not the fault of the site though!
The toilets are nice and clean but it is a bit of a faff to have a shower as there is nowhere for your bag to go and nothing to sit on to dry your feet.
There is also a nasty smell from the septic tank which did put us off, but it was very hot and sunny which will have made the smell worse!
We didn't use the cafe on site as it always appeared closed although on the day we left there was a big sign on the road side saying 'cafe open'
Masham is only a 10 minute walk away and there are plenty of pubs to choose from, the black sheep brewery is lovely and has excellent food but appears to only open through the day.
Loads to do in the local area without driving too far but we did notice there was a really regular bus service to nearby towns for those who do not want to drive.
Overall a great little site, clean and tidy with decent showers and in a good location.
We will return but it would be nice to see some little fold down seats in the showers to dry our feet!

The site had good showers. Powerful and warm 1st thing and late on. We didn't eat in the cafe as thought it a bit pricey.
We were told exactly where to pitch and as it was quite full considered this helpful rather than a problem. The site went very quite after 11 p.M. The location was spot on. We are two adults with teenage daughters. We stayed two nights. One day we spent at lightwater valley theme park. Its about 15 mins drive away.We also drove into Ripon which is about 20 mins away for a meal on one evening. The other day we went to the Blacksheep brewery(half a mile away). I would recommend it. The guide was enthusiastic and witty(She was approx 60 yrs old).
The only niggle with the campsite was the amount of signs. From dogs on leads to don't walk up this path to look after the hair dryer as this is the third one this season.

Arrived on a busy Saturday and was soon ushered into our pitch. Our first thought was on how tightly packed in the caravans were. As far as dog walks go these are really non existent you pay for your dogs but there is nothing there for them. The site was clean and tidy in all other respects, cafe pricey but space or lack of space was our overall disappointment.

We arrived on a nice sunny day but noticed the pitch was slightly sodden. Thinking that the drainage would kick in we endeavoured to setup home for the next few days. That first night we received 1 small shower.
In 4 days we had 20+ temperatures, baking in certain places around the park however our pitch never drained/dried out.
However despite the squelchy conditions of our pitch, other pitches looked spot on, the park was bustling but not unbearably rowdy all be it 1 night then extremely promptly management evicted them at 8am . Fantastic service making a lot of happy campers.
A small shop caters for all, the restaurant which is more a cafe is not unreasonably priced provides top notch food with a flexible menu. With a bring your own alcohol policy for meals.
All in all I would go back, I have scored them down on the overall ratings because of the drainage issue regarding the old railways bridge plots. There was hardly any rain and the ground should have done better with the excess water. Oh and they never cut the grass there ;)

Nice site, friendly and helpful staff. Toilet block excellent and immaculately clean - although their was an unpleasant smell from the nearby sceptic tank.
Site was very busy at the weekend - so virtually no space for children to play and there isn't a playground.
Cafe was very good , but it was a pity it didn't open earlier in the mornings for breakfast - 8.30 is a bit late for campers with children who wake up early.
Masham is a lovely little town, breweries, pubs and interesting food shops. Lovely walks along the river banks.
It was easy to walk into Masham apart from the first 50 yards or so - along a narrow footpath next to a busy road - a nightmare with kids and dogs. - There was an entrance to a field immediately opposite the site which would have been much better to walk down, but there was a large sign saying -No capacitance'

We have visited this site many times over the past 3 years. We arrived on 10 July for 2 nights to celebrate my father-in-laws special birthday. We were dissapointed to find that we could no longer park next to our pitch and had to use the car park near the entrance. We had intended to hold a party so had several trips to and fro from the car. As the site was so busy, my children (8&9) has no room to play. Whilst the showers (free) were as beautiful and clean as always, they were busy and you had to wait a fair while. There are only 3 of each. The pitch marks are clearly moved subject to bookings and were remarked whilst we were there, revealing that they could fit another unit in at each side once this carried out! We were already tripping over next door's guy ropes, which was hazardous late at night!

Stayed here over the second bank holiday in may and loved it. The owners were really friendly and couldn't make you feel anymore welcome. The toilets and shower block were clean and of a good standard. We have booked again for August bank hols. Masham itself is really nice, good local food in pubs. Did the tour at the black sheep brewery would recommend this.
