Just spent a lovely weekend at the Old Station Caravan Park. This was a last minute weekend away as the forecast was so good and we weren't disappointed.
We found this site to be quite compact and it would have been a real squeeze for us to have the awning up. As it was though, we were only stopping two nights and didn't bother with the awning so it wasn't a problem. Other caravans seemed to have enough space for theirs so maybe we were just positioned in a smaller pitch because we were awning-less!
Anyway, the owners were really nice and friendly and very relaxed! It was quite refreshing to find site owners who weren't in a rush to get rid of you on your departing day. We were meeting up with my family in a pub in a nearby village on the Sunday afternoon (our last day) and obviously didn't want to have to take the caravan with us. This wasn't a problem at all for the owners who said we could leave at whatever time was best for us - great! It was probably about 4pm by the time we set off home and there was no-one breathing down your neck or making you book an extra night!
Lovely shower and toilet facilities on the site. I would agree with a previous review that a shelf inside the cubicle would be very handy to put all your stuff on instead of just three hooks. There is a shower curtain but things still managed to get a bit wet! Anyway. At least the shower was nice and warm and stayed on for quite a while even though it was one of those push button ones. Bonus!
It seems odd that nobody has mentioned this before but while we were stopping at the Old Station there was a distinctive smell of what we assumed to be a pig farm nearby! Now don't get me wrong, I'm no 'townie' - I live and work in the counrtyside and my in-laws are farmers (!) but my goodness, at times the aroma was overpowering! It wasn't a constant smell and tended to waft into the site and then out depending on the wind and what time it was. It was bloody awful though! It didn't put us off but I think it would put certain other people off (my Mum included, who came to visit us and was most offended, even though she thought the site was lovely!) Not sure if this is a new thing or what but I think it's worth mentioning!
There isn't much to do for the kids but again it wasn't a problem. Our 5 year old was happy to ride her bike (even though there was a big sign that said 'no bikes'!) and our 2.5 year old was happy chasing her! She didn't get told off and was even joined by the owner's grandaughter (I think!) We found a great park in the village anyway which the kids just loved.
So all in all a lovely small site in the countryside, complete with all the countryside smells!

Our first visit to The Old Station Holiday Park and to Masham but will definitely return.
The site was lovely and one of the friendliest we have ever stayed on, a family run site with a lovely family feel about it.
The site is small with very good facilities, nice shower and toilet blocks although would have liked a bit more room in the showers to put clothing etc as everywhere seems to get wet, but that is my only gripe.
Be aware that there is very limited tv reception, only analogue, no digital and we couldn't get any signal whatsoever even with the help of the site owners and the loan of their aerial but hey its sometimes no hardship to be without a tv !
Masham and the surrounding area was lovely with lots to do. Nice places to eat and drink and lots of nice walks with our little border terrier.
We had a tour of the Black Sheep Brewery which needs to be done if in Masham, will try to visit Theakstons brewery next time.
Must mention what we think was the best Sunday dinner we have ever had (and we have eaten in some fabulous places including Michelin star restaurants). The cafe on site does snacks and breakfasts and on Sundays does roast dinners. The most beautiful home cooked Sunday dinner, all freshly made and you certainly don't leave there hungry, would return just for that dinner again.
A lovely relaxing site, not really suited to children as not really anywhere for them to play but will definitely return.

We visited this site as a small group for my friends birthday and can recommend it whole heartedly.
We hadn't been before but a friend had recommend the site to us.
The site was quiet and tidy and the toilets were immaculate.
The warden was very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our cooked breakfasts in the on site cafe the morning after.
Masham is a great little village and the tour around the Theakston's brewery was very informative too. We are hoping to go back to go on the Black sheep brewery tour in 2011 and will definitely stay at this site when we do.

This was our first time out with our new Carolina tent. We were staying for two nights with electric hook up (£14 per night). We were on course to arrive early in the afternoon unfortunately a road on our route became blocked which meant a one and a half hour detour.
On arrival we were shown to the tent area by a warden, there had been very heavy rain prior so the ground was fairly damp and parts were taped off for re-seeding but it drained fairly quickly. We were able to pick our pitch as there were only a couple of tents there which was nice. Thanks to the site reviews on here we were aware of the hard ground so used rock pegs for the main guy lines.
First impressions of this site are good, it is very compact and the buildings have kept that old railway station appearance. The reception is on the ground floor of the main building with a cafe above, we did use this facility but found it to be very expensive however, it seemed to be very popular with local people and the food and service was excellent.
The tent area seems at first to be an afterthought at the rear of the site although there were a couple of tents pitched between the caravans and motohomes in the main area. As observed by other reviewers the tents were placed at the oposite end of the site to the facilities but I now wonder if it is an overflow area because the main area was full due to the local sheep fair which seems to be very popular.
The facility block was very pleasant and new with two toilets and three showers plus urinals in the male section, a nice touch in all the buildings was old photographs of the railway. Two gripes with the showers, you have to keep pressing a button to get them to work and there is nowhere to put you footwear and shower bag except on the floor which soon gets wet but the water was always hot and everything was very clean.
Going back to the lack of facilities to be fair there are a row of bins and BBQ stands close by but a water tap would have been nice. By the way the main area has lighting units next to the EHUs but they are not found on the tent (overflow?) area. Another downside was what seemed to be a tip behind us although we didn't go for a look.
Masham is a lovely village famous for it's two breweries, we were lucky in that the annual sheep fair held over two days was on (complete but a welcome surprise) so there was plenty to see including a large market selling all sorts including local produce, clothing, outdoor equipment and of course sheep.
The village was packed with visitors and farmers, plus there were exhibitions of barrel making (coopers) and sheep shearing. The latter was just brilliant the guy presenting and doing the shearing was a New Zealander, he proceeded to introduce various breeds of sheep on stage then got them all to dance at the end, just brilliant.
Also during the day entertainment was provided by brass bands, Morris dancers, belly dancers, sundry musicians and a fair for the kids. We spent a fortune on local produce to cook (breakfast and evening BBQ) and bring home plus a couple of halves of Old Peculiar (very expensive mind you at £3.75 a pint).
However, we shall go again and will make sure it is around the sheep fair weekend. Incidently, if you do go to Masham during the sheep fair leave your car on the campsite and walk into the village, the village car parks fill up and there is little of no chance of driving through the village.

I stopped off here for one night with my three children after a challenging journey through the roadworks on the A1. I was impressed by the open and yet self-contained nature of the site - great for the kids. The hosts were very welcoming and provided a roomy pitch.
The shower/toilet block were modern and clean with good facilities.
I unfortunately didn't opt for the cooked breakfast in the on-site cafe, which I wish I had as it looked very inviting.
Whilst it rained quite heavily during the night, the ground was well drained so there were no problems.
A good site, within walking distance of Masham. I would definitely visit again.

Stayed for 3 days prior to the August Bank Holiday and had an amazing relaxing time. The site is kept spotlessly clean by the resident owners and is a credit to them. Reception provides a host of tourist material including a couple of suggested tours put together by the owner for you to enjoy.
The purpose built toilet block provided free hot showers with an additional room on the side for pot washing. Waste water and elsan disposal are also catered for. A grey motorhome waste point is available on request.
A short walk into Masham with its 2 breweries is delightful either over the fields or around the road. Here you can find local shops selling all the produce you may need
The individually marked pitches are mainly grass over hard stone so sinking is not an issue.
The pitch we used could easily have accommodated our 23' van, awning, bbq and a car with no problem at all although some pitches are a little smaller. Cant comment on the cafe as it was only open at the weekend but the smell of food on the Friday morning we left was very inviting

We've just come back from a weekend at the Old Station and were a bit disappointed. The tent camping field is very small with very closely packed pitches. The ground is also very stoney, we bent most of our tent pegs trying to pitch our tent as we weren't aware of this before we arrived so had only brought normal tent pegs. The shower block is very clean and well maintained although it was a little annoying that the tent field is the furthest area away from the facilities when they are the ones that need them the most. It was also a little awkward that there was no dog exercising area/dog walk on site although the walk into Masham is approx 10-15 mins along the main road (there is a footpath) which was fine - take torches for nighttime as there are no street lamps. We ate at the Bay Horse as it is dog friendly, the food and drink was excellent.

A very pretty site, good facilities and friendly staff. Small pitches and the heavy rain meant that the camping area got pretty boggy. The smell from the local farm did diminish our stay. No cycling on the site, something we could have been warned about before bringing all the bikes up. Easy walk into Masham and the breweries. Didn't get to check out the on site Cafe, but looks very nice. Loads of bats and wildlife kept the kids entertained on the evening. No kids play area

Site looked very nice on arrival, told to find our own pitch which was ok as site was very quiet. Was hoping to use cafe for breakfasts but it was never open which was a disappointment as it was a big feature on their website and it is August After all.
Toilet block modern and clean but small, also is there a need for all the signs do this don't do that! There was a strong smell around the toilet area and some very unsavoury smells from the farmers fields

Just come back from a weekend in Masham. Very lovely village. Booked Old station at last minute, put on hard standing at top of site, one of 3 pitches, the other 2 were used for car parking. Felt as if was in morrision or Asda car park, when we opened the caravan door. Tried Breakfast in the new cafe, where menu states use all local products, bit pricey at £6.75 and mushrooms appeared to be tinned. Site in a lovely position, only 5 minute walk into village, which is very lovely, Bay horse Pub and Bruce Arms have a very friendly welcome and the food is excellent. Pitches not big enough to put caravan awning and car on. All owners could say was sorry very busy this weekend.
