We drove over the North York Moors from Pickering and was not expecting the many ups and downs. Took the longer but flatter route home via the A171 to Guisborough, and down the A19 towards Thirsk.
Now the site itself. Great location, on the main coastal road, 20 minutes walk from the centre of Whitby. Lidl supermarket and Spar petrol station 2 minutes drive away.
Stayed for three nights and was warmly greated and escorted by a buggy to our pitch. Lots of pitches but enough space for our awning and vehicle. Water points ideally close to pitches.
Two adequate toilet/shower blocks (free showers). The older block has a Chemical disposal point, washing up facilities and a laundrey room.
We took out tennis racquets and had a game of tennis on the tennis court.
Dog walking field, and a playing field with goal posts were both well kept and grass well manicured, could have played crown green bowls on them.
Found the Abbey expensive at £6. 90 per adult and so we just walked aroung the perimeter wall and found access to the lovely tea room. Visited the set of Heartbeat, Goathland which was a 20 minute drive from the site.
Great shops in Whitby, Skinner street really is like a timewarp back to the Seventies. All in all the shops are very old fashioned and that made a pleasant change from Poundshops and Charity shops which usually prevail these days.
Fish and chips at the Quayside on the prom near the swing bridge was great and surely worthy of its 2014 Best Fish and Chip shop in Britain Award.
The wind did get up at times, but thankfully calmed down during the night. Would not recommend putting an awning up with winds of over 20mph.
Good access to the beach, cutting between the Golf links.
Would return if in the area.

We have used this site for quite some time now and have seen improvements in the facilities over the years.
Good points
The location is fantastic, Whitby & Sandsend are in walking distance by road or fantastic beach (when the tide isn't fully in )
Staff are very helpful
Good clean toilet blocks. The new toilet block could have done with a chemical disposal & grey water disposal point.
Bad points
The hard standing pitches are too small, not very level & not far enough apart. It would be difficult putting awnings up.
The hookups are only 10 amp so you have to be careful not to trip them.
The tariffs are quite expensive but do include 4 people, there is also a supplement for Awnings & dogs. This makes it expensive for couples.
We love the location and will return, but we would use it more if the bad points, particularly the pitches were sorted.

Our daughters have just spent a week on this site which they really enjoyed the site and it’s location, we had 1 night and wasn’t looking forward to it, as the site is so big. We enjoyed our stay.
All the staff were really friendly, the site is very well maintained. Everyone on the site has a sea view. The location is really good for walking to Whitby or Sandsend

Super, super campsite Stayed here 3 times before, gets better each time. Staff really know the meaning of customer care.
The site is nicely laid out and kept immaculate, the toilets are first class and well looked after
There are 2 bus stops just outside the site entrance, one way to Whitby the other to Middlesboro or you can go across the road, down a track to the beach and walk along the prom to Whitby, not too far to walk
Just round the corner there is a nice hotel The White House
With a good restaurant and very nice food
Whitby is a nice little town, right on the seafront with lots to see and do
Site and town, got to be 10 out of 10

Fantastic site, really clean and well kept. They actually pick the grass up when cutting it so you don't tread it into your van. New, clean facilities, plenty of hot water.
Staff really friendly and helpful. Lovely walk either way into Whitby or Sandsend. Great for dogs, designated dog field and play field for children. Sea view from pitches, pubs, shops and takeaways all walkable.

Just returned from 3 nights at this fantastic site. After checking in at reception we were shown to our pitch which had a wonderful few of the sea. The hard standing pitch was more than big enough for our van & awning. The electric hook-up was close by as was both waste & drinking water.
There are two shower blocks, we used the oldest ones as they were the closest to our pitch. It was clean, well maintained with plenty of hot water. The chemical dispose was attached to the shower block.
The site was very well presented the grass was cut both on individual pitches & communal areas.
There is easy access down to the beach & promenade, the walk into Whitby takes about 25 minutes at a leisurely pace.
Will definitely be returning again.

As a site the location cannot be faulted it has views of the sea from almost every pitch. If you want to go to the beach you have to cross quite a busy road then walk down an accessible small road down to the sea front, where if you wish, you can walk to Sandsend on the beach when the tide is out and to Whitby on a promenade. The toilet facilities are excellent very clean and always being serviced by the owners, although there were only two showers in the new ladies block and when I went into the left hand one I found my feet were being washed by another ladies showers suds! showing the floor was now quite even enough for the water to run down the correct drain. There was another larger shower block housing washers and a public telephone too. At the moment there is no wi-fi which was a little annoying but I suppose its a get away from it all site! but we expected to get more than half a dozen programmes on the t. V. It wouldn't tune any more in. Also I expected there to be more in the reception area by the way of bread milk and papers etc but we had to go to the supermarkets for all our supplies, which if you can't walk well its a bit of a trek, so by the amount we paid for this site we thought we had been a little short changed. There was nothing much for children on there so we viewed it as an adult site almost, although it was dog friendly and they have a dog exercise field. It was a very windy and blustery site when we were there and we paid for an awning which we couldn't put up so just a warning for others. All in all we had a good week but will try another town and site next time.

Just got back from a lovely couple of days at Whitby. The site is only 20 mins walk from Whitby you can catch a bus but we walked along the promenade. The site was clean and tidy and very well kept, good TV reception staff were friendly and helpful would go back. Whitby is a lovely fishing town great for fish and chips.

We used this park for our first weekend away in our caravan and we weren't disappointed. The staff were very friendly and polite, we were shown to our pitch and told everything we needed to know about the site and local shops, beach, etc. The toilet/shower blocks were very clean, my husband said the shower wasn't as hot as he liked it but it was just right for me, the two nights we stayed there were no problems with queuing for either. Pitches were nice and even and we had plenty of space. The beach is a short walk away, the walk to the beach is through a golf course (the golf course is split in two with a bridge connecting each side) watch out for rude golfers, on our way back from the beach we were shouted at by one of them for apparently walking too slow.
The local Chinese was the best we've ever had, there was a mobile fish and chip shop on site on the friday night (around 7pm) unfortunately we didn't have chance to try it as we had just got back from another chippy.
We really enjoyed our stay here and the only things I believe would improve the site would be a small shop with the basics and a playground for the kids.

This site is basically a couple of fields with touring vans. The entrance and reception are well laid out and the site is generally neat and tidy. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were shown to our pitch. The pitches are gravel and are quite close together. Unusually, there is a restriction on drive away awnings, you can use one, but you can't drive away and leave it on site. There is no shop, club house or play area for children. There are two shower blocks which are adequate and were kept clean. We got a good tv reception when we realized that the aerial had to be vertically polarised.
Whitby is an interesting old town with a busy harbour and plenty of pubs and restaurants. It is only a 20 min. Walk along the seafront into town, but there is a bus stop at the site entrance and the 1/2 hourly service only takes 5 mins to the town centre. The White House is only a few minutes walk, dogs are allowed in the bar and although we didn't eat there the food looked good. The beauty of this site is its location. If you want to visit Whitby it's on the doorstep. It's not the cheapaest place we have been, there's an extra charge for dogs and awnings, but we would stay here again.
