This is a top campsite set in great surroundings.
How the majority of tent pitches were laid out was good as you used the perimeter of the 'field' leaving large grass areas in the centre. (Also the caravan pitches looked fantastic).
My boys loved the swimming pool as not that many sites have them - this site also accepts dogs.
The 'bar in the barn' is a great bar / restaurant / cooked breakfast / arcade room. Though the take-away food is the same price as a 'sit down' dinner and the portion sizes were smaller!
Great location if you like your rambling / walking as you can travel for hours and hours if you wish. The toilet/shower facilities were very well laid out and cleaned by a team of external contractors daily. The location is about 5miles outside weymouth town center so bear this in mind if you use public transport - though there is a bus stop about half mile down the entrance lane. Good location if your into sea fishing.
The on-site shop sells everything.
Would I go back - definitely

We stayed here in Aug 2010 with a caravan. First problem was finding the site post code for sat nav sent you down a very bumpey lane. When we found the correct lane a sign said 'unsuitable for caravans' we had a caravan. When we arrived and booked in, no warm welcome from the staff and found the staff not helpful at all during the stay and no friendly atomosphere or smiles from any of the staff. Site was good large pitches for electric hook up. With over 300 pitches, not enough toilet/shower facilities, 1 new toilet block which was nice but was always busy and you had to queue. 1 old toilet block that was dated and needed an update. It could be a nice site with the proper management and warm welcome and staff that like doing the job not just there because 'it's a job'.

We spent a week here in the busy holiday season and really enjoyed our stay. We are a family of 4 (2 boys- 12 &9) and stayed in a tent (non EHU). The staff were very helpful and the site very clean (always a plus for me).The shop was well stocked, which was good for us as we broke our mallet and footpump as we were setting up!
The boys loved the play field, where they instantly made friends, playing football, hide and seek etc. My only gripe is the washing facilities, there just isn't enough. Yes there is the old block that you can use without a wait, however in my experience the water for the showers was freezing (so I ended up re-joining the queue in the new block).
The new block is lovely and clean, great hot water and respected by the users. I would recommend this site to anyone.

We have just come back from a week’s holiday @ West Fleet. Overall we were very impressed with the site. The only problem we encountered was trying to find the reception on first arrival, as there was not any sign's.
This was located right at the far end of the park. We were on an EHU Pitch, and were well located for the amenities. The only problem we had was trying to pitch the trailer tent, as out pitch was on a slope. Would recommend anyone with a T.Tent to bring wheel chocks.
The New toilet block was very clean. Like many have said, quite a queue at peak times for the showers (3 in the old block, and 4 in the new). However they were free and the temperature was just right. Had 2 family bathrooms (With Bath & Shower, toilet etc).
The Bar Barn had a variety of entertainment, and the kids enjoyed the Magic & Mayhem shows, where they could get involved in the games.
The kids found the pool very cold. Although not manned, it was regularly patrolled, and the kids were reminded of the rules. Under 18's were not allowed in the pool, unless accompanied by an adult (who could be sitting on the pool side).
The kids enjoyed the various open spaces and parks to burn of there excessive energy (2 boys aged 3 & 7). In the evenings, they had 2 large inflatables for the children to use (£2.50 for 20 mins).
The site itself was situated about 5 miles outside Weymouth (Currently lots of roadworks in preparation for the sailing that they are to host during the 2012 Olympics).
Would recommend going when the Weymouth carnival is on, as there is a lot to do, and a lot of displays to watch (red Arrows, Parachute Display team, battle of Britain fly past & wing walking display to name a few). We would recommend, and will hopefully be using in the near future.

This was our second consecutive year at West Fleet so we obviously enjoyed it the first time.
West Fleet is a pleasant site with good facilities for children, including a reasonably sized outside pool which has sensible opening hours. There is also a small play area and a large field for running around in and having fun!
The site is well laid out so, although quite large, it does not feel so as it is divided up with mature hedges.
The new ablutions block is of very good quality but, for a site of this size, the number of toilets, showers and wash basins is inadequate, resulting in queues both morning and evening. Perhaps another block at the top of the site would be of benefit?
The site is very clean and tidy and pleasant to be on. It is also generally quiet but, this year, there seemed to be quite a few 'recession beating new campers' who did not seem to understand that tent walls do not block sound. The site owners have very strict rules on noise after 11pm (make noise and you are off the site!) but these do not seem to be well enforced as one group were partying until much later most nights. Perhaps an on-site presence at night would be beneficial.
Overall though, West Fleet is a very good, generally quiet site with decent facilities, in a beautiful location. It is highly recommended for those who like a quieter holiday with enough for children to do on site and one of the UK's best beaches within easy driving distance.

This site is in a great position. We found it really easily, but the lane to it is very narrow.
The welcome was friendly. The shop appeared to be well stocked with everything you might need.
Some of the pitches were slightly sloping but have been on a lot worse! We have large 8 berth tent and porch and still had plenty of room as you don't have to park your car actually within the pitch.
The kids said the pool was nice but very cold!
The barn/pub was nice and although we never ate there the food did look good. We tend to eat on the go! There was a pool table and a couple of slot machines.
The showers and toilets were spotlessly clean in both the old and new blocks. There was usually a queue for the showers in the new block and one day when I tried to put kids in old block showers they weren't working. However, the showers in both blocks had a bucket of disinfectant within reach so that you could mop floor before showering. We thought this was a great idea.
All in all great family site. I will be returning.

Just got back from a great 9 night break, site was clean and well kept despite being full up and very busy, sometimes a fair wait for a shower although the showers in their old block were normally free and were fine to use.
Swimming pool was great, although the child proof gate was not very child proof (attention required)
The camping fields were not lit which seems strange at first but with the help of a torch is no prob.
Great large areas for the kids to play my 2 age 5 and 10 had a ball, great walks from site, recommend walking to the old church in fleet then returning via the coast path to sea barn (about an hour).
The pitches were large and flat services were fine, and the shop served all that you needed.

We chose West Fleet as our base for 2 weeks in Dorset this summer and felt that we got value for money (all big site are pretty pricey at this time of year).
We took our son and his cousin (both 9 year old) and they enjoyed having the space to ride their bikes and have a bit of freedom to explore.
We found the kids had to be extra vigilant at busy times of day when large numbers of cars were leaving or returning to the site.
This site is large with many pitches over several fields, dominated by tents as access is difficult for caravans, which made it quite a novel experience.
It has newly built shower/toilet blocks which are well designed and clean. Queuing for showers was a problem, but going at a non peak time solved that.
There is a well stocked shop, outdoor heated swimming pool and friendly bar that has some limited entertainment / karaoke etc.
There is also a large recreation field for the kids to use, although it has a huge slope on it, but this is not too much of a problem, as the tent fields have lots of open space.
Its only a 15 minute walk to The Fleet and Coastal path, but this is not a great area for beaches, apart from Weymouth, so be prepared to drive some distance for more sand.
We definitely enjoyed our break here and would use the site again.

We are a family of 5 (3 girls aged 14, 12 & 10)with a Vango Nile 800 tent. We stayed at West Fleet for the first time this year, having selected it from this website based on great reviews.
We arrived prior to the end of term and found the site was virtually empty and peacefully quiet. Then after a few days the hoards of families arrived and the atmosphere on site changed.
PRO's:
1. Lovely new toilet block with hot fast running showers, new cubicles and a light airy and clean feel to them. Outdoor Washing Up facilities have been considerately designed with shelter for when it's raining.
2. Ideal location for trips into Weymouth, Portland, etc.
3. Shop on site has lots of what you need if you run out or fancy anything on the spur of the moment. Bar is good and food was lovely, although a little pricey, especially the local steak. Entertainment was varied and popular.
4. EHU pitch identification was clear with defined boundaries and plenty of space between marked pitches.
5. Swimming Pool was immaculately clean, surrounding areas litter free and nice to see Rocky enforce the rules very strictly in person at busy times to ensure no-one's fun was spoilt by less considerate users.
6. Play areas and facilities for younger children are very good. Our girls were a little too old to make use of them but the field was perfect for footy, rounders, cricket and kite flying.
CON'S:
1. Could do with a couple more shower cubicles as queues were persistent every morning and evening.
2. On a couple of occasions a number of the toilet seats were very badly soiled. Once-a-day cleaning meant restricted facilities in the new block.
3. We complained to Reception that the trailer tent next to us had a really loud fridge running through the night. We had to invest in ear plugs because it was like a generator running constantly. Whilst the owner listened to our concerns the matter wasn't addressed for the whole 10 days we were there.
4. The non-EHU camping was a free-for-all and at one stage we thought we weren't going to get the car out of our field because people were pitching tents all over the place. Whilst we were asked to pitch our 8m x 6m tent in a particular direction to comply with 'strict' fire regulations, these rules clearly don't apply to non-EHU tents with bbq's going, gas flames and lamps etc.
All-in-all we had a great holiday and felt that West Fleet was an excellent base to explore from. We walked into Sea Barn and followed the Farm Walk down to the Fleet Lagoon which is well worth doing. We can also recommend The Elm Tree Inn at Langton Herring, down the road towards Bridport (not walking distance), for great food and a warm welcome.

Wow we loved this site. We have just come back from spending four nights here and can say for sure we will be visiting again next year.
The site itself is huge massive playing field for young ones to run around in with a adventure playground did not use it but looked impressive.
The pool looked clean and tidy but sadly the weather was not up to us using it.
Toilet block was always immaculate with plenty of hot water and free hair dryers.
Very quiet site helps that the people who run it have a comprehensive list of rules and a zero tolerance for noise after 11. Great for us as we have a 18 month old.
We where on a serviced pitch which was big enough for our gelert beyond meridian 8 our bmw and room to sit outside to. Very popular site is already booked solid for the summer hols! Makes us think that we may not visit at that time of year in the future not really into crowds of people. Overall though we are very pleased we went.
