Prior to our visit we phoned the site to arrange a tent pitch and ask that it accommodate our large tent and to be alongside our parents in their caravan.
We found the Site Manager, Carole, very pleasant and helpful and looked forward to our visit. On arrival we expected to check in at 12 noon but had to wait until 12. 30 when the shop opened.
Nice reception area and shop selling basics, plenty of leaflets on local attractions. Check in was quick and efficient and we were then shown to our pitch by Barry, the Site Manager who told us how to operate the barrier system to get in and out (this would be locked between 11pm and 7am).
They had decided to pitch us in the centre circle of the field behind where our parent’s caravan would go rather than side-by-side which disappointed us a little as it wasn’t a great view and we’d previously been blessed with good pitches on club sites but it seemed to be non-negotiable.
The ground was very good, certainly no need for rock pegs and great drainage. When pitched we were bombarded with flies and midges as we were for the remainder of our week long stay. Not the sites fault it’s fair to say but do be prepared and take plenty repellent.
The toilet block (which has a door code) was kept nice, clean and tidy. The ladies had 6 toilets (one of which included wash basin), a wash basin with soap and 5 additional enclosed wash basins, 3 large showers, impressed by the size but although they were always hot they were push button every 12 seconds and little pressure which wasn’t great when rinsing hair.
There was a free hairdryer and Radio 2 was playing which was a nice touch. There’s also a unisex toilet at the end of the facilities block which comes in handy when the main block is closed for cleaning.
The wash up room had a washer, dryer, sink and three sinks for washing up which were a decent size and always clean with hot water. There’s a small playground on site, a dog walk and an area housing camping pods.
The site has wifi but their own, not the Camping Club wicoms connection. Signal wasn’t great, we couldn’t recognise it unless we went right up to reception area and then you had to give a number of details to the staff for them to register you. Quite a farce so we didn’t bother with it. TV signal was ok for the 4 terrestrial channels but no freeview whatsoever. We found the Managers to be very strict and regimented despite their pleasant nature, which made us a little uneasy.
In the local area there is the village of Bellingham a short walk away (10 mins, a stroll alongside the river), there’s a decent sized co-op, a butchers, bakers, handy store, card/ gift store, Chinese takeaway and three pubs.
The Cheviot was dog friendly and we had a fab lunch there on our last day, Ploughman’s Salad, huge! There’s also two banks in the village, one with cash point and a garage. Near the garage is the car park and entrance to a walk up to Hareshaw Linn waterfall which is pleasant. About a 2. 5 mile walk.
In the opposite directions, you have a 30 minute drive to Hexham or there is a bus which stops right outside the site entrance which gets you there in about 40 mins (£5. 60 return). There’s the Riverdale Hotel a short drive from the site which serves food and during our stay they were offering non-residents to swim free in their pool with every meal purchased.
Then about 17 miles away is Kielder Castle where we did a couple of bike rides from, fantastic views around the Kielder Water and through the forest and there’s bike hire available there and also a tea room and pub. Nearer to the site but still on Kielder Water is the Leaplish entrance.
There you’ll find a Bird of Prey centre, a ferry round the waters and The Boat Inn which serves a fantastic meal. We also visited Alnwick Castle and Gardens during our stay. It’s a one hour drive and a lovely day out although a bit pricey but you can get discounted tickets at the campsite reception. Otterburn Mill is also just a short drive away and sells some nice outdoor clothing etc.
On the whole our stay was pleasant but I’m afraid to say it’s been our least favourite club site to date and we won’t be looking to return unless we were visiting the area as it was the location that made it for us.
We felt too cramped on our pitch as more people arrived and found it too regimented and although it’s not the sites fault the midges have put us off.

A well kept site with excellent and friendly staff. The toilet and shower facilities were spotless and well kept as were the bin and water/waste areas.
The site shop has all the essentials and more besides. They will also order your daily paper for you. We stayed with our two dogs and the only thing that let us down was the weather and the midges.
Also the TV reception was terrible and we noticed a lot of people had problems.
Bellingham itself is a lovely little town and I can reccomend the Cheviot Hotel and the Chinese Takeaway!

Bellingham is another in a long line of great Caravan and Camping Club sites we have stayed at whilst in the UK. At the upper end of the scale, even for this professional club, Bellingham is ideally situated to take on Hadrian's Wall, National Parks, the North East Coast or just relax in a rural setting. The nearby village is lovely and has all one could ask for in terms of services or eating out spots.
The facilities are modern and well appointed, the Camping Pods look just awesome (jealous) and the site is another fine example of the Clubs attention to detail. In addition to the modernity and practicality of the site, it is also very beautiful and quiet.
To clarify, this comment is coming from a confirmed Wild Camper, and so is high praise for any Caravan site around the world.
If I have one criticism it is that the WiFi is not as strong at the far end, although to even have it whilst camping is a luxury, so this does not detract from the enjoyment of the site at all.
In short, a great place to stay for any length of time. We have, and still are enjoying ourselves.

We spent 2 nights at Bellingham. Unfortunately the weather was horrendous so we didn't experience the place at its best. This site is lovely.
The staff are so helpful. The warden asked our preference re pitch location and once decided led us to it. He even gave me a short reversing lesson to get me centred on the pitch.
The toilet and shower facilities were faultless - very clean and a pleasure to use.
However, there is usually a downside to most things and for us - well me mainly - it was the midges. They just descended on us the minute we arrived and unfortunately I have a bad reaction to them and suffering from the experience.
That is the only thing that would put me off returning and I would recommend the site highly.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay on the C&CC site at Bellinham, from the minute you arrive the staff are so friendly. This is one of the top sites I have stayed at over the past 5 years and we return every year.
The site has a well set out reception with local organic meat in the fridge to guide books of the area, with a minimal fuss we are booked in and shown to our hardstanding pitch. All of the grassed areas are well kept and spacious with the normal club 6mtr rule.
The toilet block is one of the cleanest we have found with good spacious cubicles and little touches like the small stool in the showers or the clothes to wipe sinks area after you and the piped music to keep you entertained. There is always hot water in the showers.
Carol and Barry have taken this little gem of a site and polished it in to a diamond.
This site is ideal for visiting Kielder forest, Hadrian's wall and forts or the National trust's Cragside and Wallington hall. Bellingham village has a number of pubs and hotels if you want to dine out or just down the road at Wark is battlesteads hotel.
There is a number of walks to either Hareshaw Linn which has a beautiful waterfall at the end or if you want to walk a bit further there is Hareshaw house where you return along the pennine way back in to Bellingham.

We went when the Royal Wedding was on so the site was very busy, everyone taking to the long weekend. Despite being full everything was perfect, the showers and toilets were always clean and I never had to wait.
The site is peaceful but only a short walk from the village which has a good selection of shops and a pubs.
I was impressed that the owners took time to decide which was the best pitch for us and made sire we were happy with it. We are going back in 2012
I can't rate it for children as ours are grown up

We stayed at the CCC site in Bellingham for 3 nights over the Royal wedding / May BH weekend and had great weather, which only enhanced our stay.
On arrival we were firstly told to move our car as we had parked 'in the wrong place', but were soon checked in and shown a choice of 3 available grass pitches for our tent - we chose one in the far corner, away from the road which runs along one edge of the site (although only a B road, it can be really quite noisy during the day, with cars and bikes tending to speed down that stretch, we didn't notice it at all during the night from our pitch though).
The pitches were all really well maintained, nice and flat and very easy to peg into. The surrounding grass was short and lovely and green.
The Pitches themselves are fairly spacious and it being CCC the '6m from your neighbouring unit' rule is strictly enforced - the friendly warden telling us exactly where to pitch and which way to site our tent on the pitch so that the site looked 'uniform', also adding that the position he recommended was best to make the most of the all day sun. Perhaps a tad OTT, but I can see what they are trying to achieve. Anyway no complaints as we had plenty of room for our 4 man Trout Lake, with the car parked alongside. I think all pitches have EHU, although we didn't use it.
The site was full and had many more caravans (complete with large awnings etc) than other sites we have visited, so it possibly seemed a bit more crowded and overlooked than we are used to - particularly in the more open middle section. Luckily we had a nice spot along the bottom fence and it was OK.
Access to the facilities and the camping field itself are all security controlled, with a key pad and residents are given the numbers. The barriers are locked at 11pm until 7am. If you intend to get back later than 11, as we did one evening, there is some additional visitor / camper parking by reception – we were told to use that 'if there is room'. Not sure what were supposed to do if there wasn't, but as it turned out it was fine.
The toilet Block was well organised and immaculately clean, to be honest some of the best we have seen; there were plenty of toilets and sinks in individual cubicles, heaters and even music playing.
The shower cubicles were big, with a clean white shower curtain to separate the shower area from the rest of the cubicle; there was also a stool to put things on (nice touches to help keep your stuff dry).
The water was always hot, although they are push button and you have to push it every few seconds to keep it on. A minor gripe and I thought the shower set up was really great.
There were 3 showers in the ladies and I think 3 in the men's. Mops were provided to clean the cubicle floor if you made a mess. I didn't have to queue at any point for the facilities.
There is a well set out reception and shop selling all the usual basics. The sausages they sell, made by the butcher nearby, were lovely.
We are non-members so it was a pretty expensive stay for us (approx £29 per night for 2 adults). I'm not sure what value you get for the money… apart from the lovely facilities and well maintained site. I'm also not sure if you are charged a flat rate including EHU, irrespective of if you use it or not…?
The site is fantastically located for Kielder Water (approx 17 miles); we spent a day exploring there and did the circular walk from Leaplish around Bull Crag and visited the bird of prey centre where they put on flying demonstrations twice a day.
In the evening we had booked to go to the observatory for a talk and star gazing - we saw Saturn which was amazing. It's getting very popular and you have to book early!
We also walked from the site into Bellingham (15 mins easy walk along the road)and to Hareshaw Linn, a lovely walk through woods to a stunning waterfall. Another day we visited the NT property at Cragside, again well worth a visit.
It is undoubtedly a lovely site in a great location, however for us there are some 'buts'…admittedly all of which are down to our own personal preference… mainly that we found the site to be quite regimented and didn't really like the ratio of caravans and really big tents, as opposed to smaller units.
I would probably stay again, because it is so clean and tidy and the surrounding area is lovely.

This campsite has to be a jewel in the Camping and Caravanning Club's crown.
A wonderful site in brilliant surroundings. The facilities are absolutely spotless, with unlimited hot water. The wardens friendly and welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble. It has a small well stocked shop for basic supplies, newspapers and you can even buy fresh local produce. The site itself is extremely well maintained, and even boasts a small children's playground and dog walk.
A perfect site for all ages wishing to visit beautiful Northumberland and within easy reach of Keilder and many attractions. The site is within easy walking distance of the village of Bellingham which has shops, pubs and cafe's.
I would certainly recommend this site for a weekend or a longer holiday. Perfect!

We stayed here for 4 nights over Easter and had an amazing time.
Everything about the site is top class. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The toilets were immaculate and the shop sold all the basic essentials.
The views were spectacular and the site is ideally placed to visit much of Northumberland's attractions. Kielder Lake and Forest is only a short drive away, and several Hadrian's Wall sites are only a little further afield.
The village of Bellingham is less than a mile away and has everything you would expect of a small village.
We spent 4 nights with our two children and dog and wished we had booked for longer. We will definitely be returning before the end of the year.

We have just returned from a short break from this lovely site! The staff are extremely friendly from the minute you arrive and go out of their way to help you. Pitches are mostly hard standing and well spaced out.The site is very well maintained. The shower and toilet block are exceptionally clean and the shower cubicles are spacious.
There is a well stocked shop on site providing essentials.
My only complaint albeit a little one, we requested a sunny pitch which was quite near the road some road traffic noise was experienced early in the morning. So I think next time we would request a pitch away from the road.
The surrounding area is very picturesque and there are many places to walk and visit.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this site and would return again.
