I booked this site at the last minute for my husband’s birthday. Regretfully, we could only stay for two nights but could’ve happily stayed forever!
The pitches are large and well kept, each with a picnic bench. The surroundings are so peaceful and relaxing and the other campers we spoke to were lovely.
The views are breathtakingly beautiful - I cannot stress that enough.
I had corresponded with Richard before our arrival and upon meeting him we found him instantly warm and welcoming. He also had a wealth of local information and gave us a tour of the site and the fabulous facilities.
The toilets were very clean and well stocked. The shower had plenty of hot water and space to change - with a handy stool for those who need to be seated to dress / undress.
We had the most relaxing couple of days and left feeling thoroughly recharged and refreshed.
We’ll definitely be booking up for a return visit and hopefully, next time, we will be able to enjoy a longer stay.

Site owner very pleasant and helped us setting up. Lovely site with good views. Good sized grass pitches with own picnic bench, kept immaculately tidy.
Facilities spotless and cleaned regularly. Only two showers but site nearly full and never a problem.
Walking distance (1mile uphill) into Leyburn
Very relaxed atmosphere. Great area for walking. We would have stayed longer but the site was full.

Just what we look for in a campsite; fabulous location, quiet and peaceful, handy for supplies and eating and drinking, a range of walks from the doorstep with good quality, well maintained and clean basic facilities and a warm welcome - Richard is a super-host!
Will definitely be back.
We would recommend walking to Leyburn and getting the little white bus up the dale and walking back. 5 pubs in Leyburn within walking distance; we liked the Bolton Arms with a friendly welcome and good range of decent pub food at reasonable prices.
The Sandpiper offers more upmarket experience. Lots of interesting walks and places to visit so there's no shortage of days out to be enjoyed from here.
Very peaceful site with lots of friendly and welcoming returning guests.
One shower for ladies, one for men and separate loos. All well stocked and super clean. No add on charges here for hot water etc. Good quality wash-up facilities all enclosed and clean and dry. Honesty system for using the washer/dryer and a fridge and kettle are also provided which would be useful for campers travelling light.
Fab range of shopping in Leyburn inc a Co-op and lots of independents make it a good base for a Dales holiday. Wensleydale is quieter than some of the southern dales and the better for it.

This was the third time we visited this campsite
As ever we were welcomed by the ever cheerful Richard which was very nice.
The new toilet blocks are great and also the washing up facilities incl. Watercooler and washing machine
1 shower for the gents and 1 for the ladies might not be enough when the campsite is full
We missed wifi but on the other hand we came here to relax, walking and enjoy the astonishing views
We will certainly recommend this site and we come again!
Thank you Richard, you are a great host👍!

After holidaying in York last year and having a day in The Dales, we loved it so much, that we wanted to have a longer stay this year.
So, in January I came across Craken House Farm site and emailed Richard (the owner) to see if the dates we wanted were free. Although Richard did email me back, he also gave me a courtesy telephone call and we had a lengthy conversation on what the site was like and lots of places of interest for us to visit.
We booked the site there and then and had been looking forward to going for 7 months. Finally, we arrived on Friday 7th July and were given the most friendliest of greetings.
Richard walked us to our pitch, but before we set up, we were given a complete tour of the site and amenities. In the washing up area, there was also a washing machine which Richard explained could be used and a £2.50 contribution is all they asked via an honesty box.
Washing powder and washing up liquid was also supplied, which was a lovely little touch. The view over The Dales from our pitch was stunning and we had the most wonderful 10 day holiday. We are already planning next year’s visit.
I cannot praise Richard enough for his hospitality and wide knowledge of walks and places to visit with our two dogs, many of which could be done straight from the site. We also noticed how friendly other guests were on site and many of them were returning visitors who all got to know each other over the years.
The site is very well maintained. There are 4 new unisex toilet rooms and 1 male & 1 female shower room as well as separate wash rooms for each.
All in all, a beautiful stunning site, within easy access to some outstanding places to visit.

Our first stay here and we'll be back. A lovely site, well spaced pitches each with a picnic table.
The owner is very friendly and gave us a full guided tour of the facilities- there are loos, showers, laundry and recycling bins. TV reception is good and the views are amazing.
Thoroughly recommend the site.
