 We were very impressed with this site. The owner was very friendly and helpful, and we were not treated as an inconvenience, which you are at some other sites.
The site itself was well-kept - the grass was short and the toilets spotless (if a little dated). The views were fantastic and, despite the fact that it was Bank Holiday and the site was full, it still managed to be peaceful.
There are 2 large dog-walking fields, but the best bit is there are footpaths directly out of the site in all directions - including a pleasant walk into the charming town of Leyburn, with its supermarket, pubs, take-aways etc. We'll definitely be back.

Lovely quiet campsite with stunning views (although it is not very big so it may get noisier at busy periods). The owners were lovely and it is conveniently close to the centre of Leyburn, so it was possible to wander to a few pubs and then stagger home by torchlight.
The showers were fine, although there were only two, so I anticipate they get a bit busy when there are lots of people.
It was quite bad weather (sleet!) when we camped. I went with a friend and we camped at the bottom of the field near to the stream. We had great views but we got very waterlogged (the owner did try to warn us).
Incidentally, there is also a great camping barn, if you fancy a weekend away with a group. The bunk beds are fairly basic, and you'll need your own bedding, but it has a big dining table and a large garden at the back, again with fantastic views. Nice and peaceful and you feel completely cut off as other campers are shielded from view.

Craken house is a lovely quiet site with lovely friendly owners, who are quite happy to help you if they can. Set in two fields with a gorgeous view of the dales,we were in the top field and had a fntastic view. Can get a bit water logged in the rain but owner is quite happy to help you out.
Shower was nice and clean and the water was nice and hot, the bins were emptied daily so the site is nice and clean. we havnt got a dog but you can take them as there was a few there. The map of directions is slightly out as the road onto the site is flat and from the map we went down a steep hill, The actual road is the road from leyburn to middleham not leyburn to bedale as it states on the map.
Not much there for small children if the weather is bad, but we will be going back again sometime this year as it is only £12.50 for a family of 5 including hook up. If you like horses and can get up early you can watch the jockeys working the horses on the low moor in middleham, what a lovely sight and the kids love it too.
There is local shops, pubs,resturant and chippy, also on friday there is a local market brilliant!
