This is a lovely quiet site with gorgeous views. We were parked at the site of a stream which was very romantic. The site is grassy and quite level with good fresh water supplies and adequate Elsan disposal. Grey waste goes into the hedges. The toilets are adequate and showers are 20p (we did not try them). There is a lovely laundry and washing up area. There is a nice grassed area for playing / picnics with a small 'sun-house' full of useful tourist information (if a little in need of some TLC). There is a funny resident goose who seems to stay in the same spot all the time. The owner is very friendly and walked us round the site and let us pick our spot. She waved us off as we left. The site is about a 15-20 min walk to Leyburn. If you walk up the track to the main road the Tea-Pottery (which makes wonderful unique teapots & has a cafe) and the chocolate factory (see chocolate being made yum-yum!) are just over the road. There are some good walks from the site - e.G. To Middleham and to Harmby waterfalls. Well worth a visit. Site fee was £11 per night. Also Saffron restaurant in Leyburn provides excellent food at reasonable prices.

We have just returned from an overnight stay and I felt I really needed to write a review for this site what can I say apart from FAB! This was only our second camping trip with our two boys and we really enjoyed it. The site was positioned perfectly for Leyburn, and the surround walks. There was no rules of dos or don'ts and as for the toilets and showers, they were basic but very adequate. Even though we were very lucky, as it was the warmest weekend so far of the year, it was still a very good site with good size pitches and we will be booking up again for next year.

A very attractive and simply laid out site capturing the true essence of camping or caravanning. No signs about saying do this or don't do that and Marjorie is very cheery and relaxed - she waved us goodbye as we stopped to pay our bill! Agricultural surroundings with stock in adjacent fields but otherwise quiet and relaxed with plenty space for each electrified pitch in the upper square field which holds 12 outfits. The lower field has a similar number and mostly canvas. Superb view over to Middleham castle about a mile to the South. Good walking access to Leyburn via track then pavement takes 15-20 minutes. Adequate showers (20p) and toilets are conveniently placed, well provisioned and clean and a great laundry and wash up room with spin drier. Leyburn itself is attractive and has all facilities but is well placed for outings to Hawes, Grassington or Ripon so good for exploring the dales.

We have just got back from a two-night stay here. Would like to say we were very impressed with the campsite-very well looked after, with a flat field, clean toilets and showers and a very helpful owner, great value at £10 / night for a two man tent. Location is ideal for exploring Leyburn etc, we walked into Leyburn for a couple of drinks on the Friday afternoon.
It helped that the weather was the best we have had all year (still got the sun burn!). Would deffo recommend this campsite to anyone regardless of age.
If your boyfriend is like mine and likes to straighten his hair then he might be a bit disappointed with the lack of a socket in the men's shower room but then again, who really straightens their hair when they go camping!??
Apart from a complaint from an adjoining caravan user that we were 'blocking their view', what of I'm not quite sure, seeing as our tent was tiny compared to the other caravan in front of their caravan, everyone was very friendly.
Sure to return again next year, make sure you book! Hope you have found this review helpful, I used the reviews on this site as a basis for booking this campsite, and I hope you do the same.

Parents spent 3 weeks here, we went up 3 week-ends. What lovely, friendly people. Site beautifully kept, toilets and showers perfectly adequate, clean and well cared for. Coverbridge pub just outside Middleham does lovely food, and excellent beers. Views of God's own county superb. Pity about the British weather. Warning though, mobile phone signals a bit dodgy, and in certain places TV reception not great. All in all would recommend and will return.

Just had a smashing break, lovely site I cant understand some of the comments about the showers and toilets unless those folk are more used to 5 star sites. I found them very acceptable but granted basic. Watch the wall to enter the site though I think you may need bike clips if you have a long van, but trust Maureen she will walk you through the line to take. Overall even the weather could'nt dampen the enjoyment of the location. Marvelous

What can I say this is the third time I've been to this site and what a lovely 3 night stay we had. The owners are very helpful and friendly. The site has lovely views over lower Wensleydale looking towards Middleham, you can even see the castle! The site is very close to Leyburn but you would never know as it is so peaceful! Leyburn has numerous places to eat and drink with a Co-op that's like a Tardis there's even a cinema if the weather isn't up to much! My only bug is that there's only two showers, one for the ladies, one for the men so if the sites busy you may have a short wait but they're fit for purpose. My advice is go there because its so peaceful you'll nearly forget yourself!

Just returned from a 5 night trip to this site.
We chose this site at short notice after having been let down by a CL site nearby after having booked it months ago. I gave Craken House a call and they gladly let me have a pitch.
I am extremely happy the CL site let me down to be honest because in Craken House we have found a little gem of a site. The showers were fine and I cant understand the problems stated in other reviews. The shower was always clean when I went in at 7:30 in the morning! The loo's were also very clean.
The owners are really pleasant, happy people who are really welcoming and full of information. We like to walk and there are plenty of walks that can start from your caravan door so you can leave the car on site and not have to worry about where you are going to park etc.
My dog loved the free run of the adjoining field and the views over the countryside are truly amazing. We were not blessed with the driest of visits but nevertheless the touring field remained firm underfoot.
We will definitely be visiting here again, on our last day my wife and I both agreed we really didn't want to go home.
Great site, nice and peaceful, lovey owners. Thanks for fitting us in!

What a lovely clean site, lovely views. Toilets showers very clean, 20p for a hot shower. Caravan / motorhome needs blocks as is very hilly but some flat parts as well. Twenty minutes walk to Leyburn. Lovely people, very friendly, nice cheap site, only paid £27 for weekend for 2 adults 2 kids. Watch out for wall when you get through second gate as we nearly touched the wall with our van. Go through top gates on site for a 15 min walk with kids to the chocolate factory and tea pottery, both free entrance. Turn left out of gates 2 mile drive to the fantastic forbidden corner fantastic place for adults and kids £28 for 2 kids 2 adults, well worth a visit: secret paths mazes, dark tunnels, be careful were you walk you can get very wet. Lovely picnic area. All in all brilliant weekend, just before I go my daughter who is 13 said I had to mention the lovely horses they have and my son who is 16 said watch out for goose, it runs round, he had a lot of fun with it.

I was in two minds about reviewing this site as it only has 25 pitches for vans and tents and by giving it a great review might mean I would struggle to book it again. Anyway fairness prevailed, after all I use the review service myself! You would struggle to find a site in England with such a fantastic view. Yes the facilities are basic but they are very clean. The owners live on site at the farmhouse, and are keen to be helpful in anyway they can. There are some good walks from the site and maps are available from the farmhouse. It is an easy walk into Leyburn using the fields and tracks. Most of the pitches have electric hookup but they are not compulsory, unlike some of the sites we have been on.This site would not suit all families with children as there is no dedicated playground area although there is plenty of grass areas. Nearby there are superb places to visit and if you like walking, visit West Burton, often overshadowed by Aysgarth but definitely worth a visit.I cannot wait to visit this site again soon.
