Beautiful site with the nicest owner you could ever meet!
On arrival we were met by Richard, he introduced us to George the resident goose who is unfortunately lame but seems extremely happy to just wander around his own lane and up to the farm house.
We were shown to our pitch (no 14) which has gorgeous views over the stunning countryside, it's a large pitch 2nd closest tent pitch to the toilets/showers. The facilities are super clean and had loads if hot water at all times.
We set up and settled down looking out at the horses in the field with a cuppa. This really is a very relaxing place to stay. We ventured into Leyburn just a 10 minute walk away on the Saturday lunchtime, we enjoyed a pub lunch and look around the sweet little shops of Leyburn.
The weekend went far too quickly but we definitely plan a return trip, hopefully this month.
Definitely would recommend this charming site to anyone.

Stayed here earlier this month And all I can say is we have at last found our dream site. Pitches are spacious, site well kept, toilet block so clean. There is nothing negative that I could say about this little gem, heaven. Richard the owner does so much extra to make your stay enjoyable. He goes beyond the 'call of duty'. Nothing is too much trouble all you have to do is ask. Set in beautiful countryside and surrounded by fabulous views and Leyburn just a short drive away, where you have a small supermarket and shops, what more could you want. We plan to return in November and we can't wait. We were going to do so much during our stay but, most of the time just sat outside listening to the birds and enjoying the total peace.

We have just returned from a weekend staying at this beautiful site. Previous Reviewers have commented on the views and they aren’t wrong. We had low cloud and mist on both Friday and Saturday and the views were still amazing – not to mention the amazingly starry sky once the cloud lifted on Sunday night!
On arrival, Richard showed us round the site which is refreshingly free of signage. Richard made sure we knew which direction the sun rose and set in and suggested that we might like to pitch ‘side-on’ so that we could take full advantage of looking out over Wensleydale. He also pointed out the ‘safe’ footpath into Leyburn and having established that we wanted to do some walking, explained how he was quite happy for us to walk through the Farm’s fields to access public footpaths. The loop out from the site to Wensley and up onto the Leyburn Shawl is lovely and The Yorkshire Tea Party tearoom at Wensley Station is well worth a visit!
Pitch sizes are generous and the hook-up points well sited. Some of the pitches are sloping so you might want to make sure you have levelling blocks with you (although Richard did offer to lend us some if we hadn’t brought ours with us). We loved the fact that we could just ditch our grey water (which is never particularly dirty anyway) into the hedge and there are recycling facilities on-site for glass, tins and cardboard.
As other’s have said – yes, the facilities are dated but even though the site was nearly full, they were extremely clean during our stay and there was always plenty of hot water in both the showers and the utility room.
Leyburn is a 10 minute walk away and has some lovely shops. There are plenty of restaurants/cafes and a laundrette which does service washes if you need to do some washing. There is lighting at night around the facilities on-site but if you are walking into town you might want to take a torch with you if it is going to be dark for the return journey.
We really appreciated the laid back and friendly feel of this site and felt relaxed and refreshed after only two days. We are already planning our return visit next spring for a longer recharge!

Just returned from this gem of a site. Nothing was to much trouble for the Richard the owner he even mowed the grass before he would let us pitch. The toilets and showers were spotlessly clean and the views from the site were breath taking. Had some great walks cannot wait to return next year Pauline & colin

Excellent site, with very pleasant, helpful owner - Richard. Plenty room, good facilities, if fairly basic, but spotlessly clean; beautiful view looking acroos to Middleham and lower Wensleydale. Will certainly go again. Liked the idea of separate field for children, and quieter field for us 'older ones'. Plenty room to walk dogs.

Don't rely o the post code to get you there.
This is a lovely site with good views, the owners are friendly and helpful, the facilities are good and kept clean.
It's a bit of a walk into Leyburn. A good central location to visit the Dales. We enjoyed a visit to Richmond, Masham for the two breweries. Traveling round the different dales.

We signed up especially in order to give this campsite a review.
What a stunning place! The man on the other end of the phone was extremely friendly, not minding that we had no idea when we were going to show up. And when we did, the man who met us, Richard, was helpful and welcoming, giving us a comprehensive tour of the campsite's facilities.
We thought that the facilities were great; the toilets were clean and close to the pitch, the pot-washing place was well equipped with several sinks and sponges provided. Although we did not have to use them, we saw that there were facilities to wash clothes as well.
The site itself is absolutely charming. We stayed in the 'private paddock' - which I was particularly enchanted with, due to the pretty flowers and little brook. It has a fabulous location, with amazing views and just a short walk from the town.
And on top of that, it was one of the cheapest campsites we looked at in the area! What fantastic value for money - one of the best campsites I've ever stayed at!
I wished we could have stayed another few nights!

We have just returned from a weekend at Craken House and can't really fault it. The site was easy to find and in a great location. It is set back quite far from the road down a private drive, so very quiet. No noise except the odd sheep/cow in a neighbouring field.
Richard was really helpful, with information when booking and on arrival. We were shown were we could fill up with water and then walked round the available pitches and give a choice. A really nice touch, and then shown the facilities.
There are facilities for hand washing and spin drying clothes, and washing up sinks - though we didn't make use of these they are certainly nice to have available. Very minor negative is that there is only one shower and two toilets per gender(possibly planning to increase this in the future, but didn't bother us), but they were clean, in good condition and perfect working order (shower nice and hot and powerful-perfect after a long walking the surrounding area). We were even lent an additional cable for electric hook up, as ours is only short.
A great base for exploring the local area, the campsite is located a mile from the town of Leyburn, which has multiple shops, pubs, restaurants and a tourist information point - there's quite a lot of choice while still retaining a village feel. The surrounding area is stunning, with spectacular views from the site and lovely areas for walks in, or cycle rides to. Most of the pitches have stunning views, but we've had a walk around and noted our favourites for future bookings, which the owner is more than willing to accommodate wherever possible.
The owners definitely focus on the customer and want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, which they do in abundance. As it's only a hour and half drive from home, we will definitely return whenever we fancy just getting away from it all.
Thanks for a great stay!

A perfect place in the Yorkshire Dales.
This site is the perfect place to explore the Dales from.
The site is on a gently sloping hill, so some pitches do have a slight incline to them. We arrived on a very windy Saturday, but thanks to Richard's forethought our pitches were behind a conifer hedge which protected us from the worst of the wind. The guided tour of the site, the friendliness of everyone, the facilities being spotless, and kept that way all week with plenty of free hot water, makes this one of the nicest site we have ever stayed on in 24 years of camping. Beautiful views, and peace and tranquillity. The Town of Leyburn is only a mile's walk from the site. The path up to the main road is a bit steep and rough underfoot but after that it's a straight walk into town. There are plenty of places to visit and eat in the surrounding area's, and we would heartily recommend the Cover Bridge Inn just outside Middleham for an excellent meal and beers at extremely good value for money. All in all an excellent site.

Our first time camping and we couldn't have chosen a better spot! From the time we arrived to the time we left the owner was very helpful, he showed us around the site, gave us some pointers of places to visit in the area (which was a great help). The facilities (showers, toilets and washing-up area including freezer) were very clean and well kept. Beautiful views from this site. We will definitely return here for another visit and have recommended Craken House Camp-site to our friends, it's a Craken place :-)
