Just returned from our second visit to this site and can echo the excellent reviews posted by other people on this site, and confirm that the site is as good as it always was.
This site serves as an excellent base for a visit to the 'Forbidden Corner' - a long held favorite place of ours to go for a day out with the kids. Book early though. If you thought the Forbidden corner booked out quick, this site books out even quicker during the summer months.
The site doesn't have a park, but it does have a willow tree. That tree has kept our kids amused for many more hours than any play area ever has.
Rich, the site owner, never stops working (except for a chat. ) to make sure the site is always in tip top condition. The site has licence for 25 units but has a few more pitches than that which means that a couple of pitches get a chance to recover and aren't as battered as ones that are in constant use. It does also mean that if you tip up on spec thinking that you can see free pitches, you may be turned away as the site is actually full.
Facilities (toilets, wash / shower room, dish washing room with fridge freezer and washing machines) are all well maintained and clean.
It's not unusual to come across people who have been staying here every year for a number of years.

Warm welcome from Richard the site is immaculate, pitches spacious and flat and nice walk into Middleham one way and Leyburn the other. Met some lovely people, weather but mixed but didn't spoil the weekend.
No playground for kids but that suited us as ours are grown up and wanted a quiet site.
We will be back!

Just returned from a perfect and relaxing 3 night stay at Craken House - what a find. I can only echo most of the other reviews on here, and say that I really can't fault it.
Beautiful views, gorgeous location, immaculate and well maintained site, and Richard's hospitality is second to none. We felt welcome from the moment we drove in, he really does go above and beyond to be kind, helpful and informative.
We were pitched on the lower field with views over towards Middleham Gallops and Pen Hill, and our toddler loved watching the lambs in the next field. Plenty of space for her to run around safely and also a handy dog walk area.
This is a quiet and very relaxed site, no shop or children's playground but perfect if you want to get away from it all. Leyburn is easy to walk to from site. We'll definitely be returning - soon I hope!

We stayed here for five nights, starting with Easter Sunday on 1st April. It snowed on Easter Monday!
The site is quiet and well maintained. Richard e-mailed me the day before to check we were still going given the forecast, when we said we were he said we were superheroes! He gave us a very friendly welcome and tour and gave us the paddock which has a picnic table and the information hut in it. There is also a nice stream and good views across to Middleham.
The toilets and showers were very clean - my husband said they were the cleanest loos he had ever seen anywhere (maybe that includes ours?!). In the ladies shower there was a bath mat as well as the duck board which I thought was a nice touch. In the ladies washroom there is also a hairdryer. There is always plenty of soap and paper towels. The loo roll was always plentiful too. I found the shower temperature perfect but my husband, who can't stand a hot bath, said that sometimes he thought they were too hot! I don't think there is any such thing.
The utility room had a kettle and electric sockets that you could use to charge devices etc. There were three sinks and loads of hot water. There were washing up bowls and drainers and plenty of blue roll to wipe down afterwards. There is a small fridge freezer which you can use. There is also a washer dryer which, given we got soaked on Easter monday, we did use. Very handy.
There are two routes to Leyburn - one up the main road and one across fields. We did both, although as one of our dogs is elderly and uses a buggy sometimes, we mostly went up the road. Not very far at all. There are plenty of pubs in Leyburn. We went in The Bolton Arms, The Golden Lion and The Sandpiper Inn. The best food was in the Sandpiper, but it is a bit more restauranty than pub. The food in the Golden Lion was good pub food. The Bolton Arms was standard pub food. All of these were dog friendly. We didn't try any other pubs.
We had fish and chips from the chip shop one evening which was very nice.
There are two bakers, a butchers, co-op, two outdoor shops, pet shop and other shops.
Our days out were to Richmond castle, Middleham Castle and Fountains Abbey. All dog friendly and not too far. If the dog was younger we could have walked to Middleham.
We had a fab time at this site and would return, with younger dogs, for more walking and exploring of the local area.
Fully recommend this site.

Had a fantastic four night stay at craken house caravan site we were greeted by Richard who showed us around the site no matter were your pitched the views will be fantastic. Facilities are spotlessly clean. Short walk into leyburn away from the road is great. We loved the site so much we have re booked again for November.

We had five nights at Craken House in our 8 person tent. All of the pitches have electric hook ups and we paid £22. 50 per night for 2 adults and our five year old. The owner, Richard, was very friendly and welcoming and treated us to the “figure of eight” tour.
We had plenty of space on our pitch and there is a stream running through the site, the sound of which was very relaxing.
The facilities were very clean. There were two toilets and one shower for men and two toilets and one shower for women. One of the female toilets was in the same building as the shower which led to queueing at certain times, as instead of each individual facility being locked when in use, the main access door to both was locked, when only one person was in there.
The washing up area was large and well equipped, although there was only a small freezer compartment in the fridge which was already jammed full of ice packs.
We walked into Leyburn most days, via a couple of different routes, which only took 20 minutes. The other highlights of our stay were driving out to the White Scar Caves at Ingleton and the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes.
We would definitely visit this site again.

We just couldn't wait to get back to this site after our first visit earlier in the year as we came back home and booked straight away for 8 nights this August. Upon arriving we were treat as old friends and again helped by Richard to get the van in the right position for a fantastic view of the unspoilt countryside. Facilities yet
Again were spotless and loved the personal touches of air freshener in the toilets the hairdryer available and in the washing up area the kettle to make a cuppa whilst washing pots or using the washer. The site is so peaceful and dark on a night your guaranteed to have a great nights sleep and fantastic views everyday. Weather wasn't too great and even though it rained a lot it drained very quickly and didn't stop us from having a brilliant time. Various short walks into Leyburn and also to the t pot factory and the chocolate factory we will be booking again for next year as we love this site you won't be disappointed

Craken House- what a cracking site this is. Easy to find as per the website directions. A very warm welcome from owner Richard who kindly towed our van to our pitch 25 & levelled us using his own blocks. He then showed us round the site & explained recycling etc to us. Our pitch was lovely in the lower family field right next to a lovely stream. Most of the pitches have fab views towards Middleham Moor. All are grass pitches & despite some heavy rain the grass was never very wet, great drainage. Everything about the site pristine, well mown grass, clean bins/recycling areas. Spotless utility room & very clean toilets, washrooms & shower. As site was full over the weekend we expected to have to queue for facilities but this never happened. It was an easy 1 mile walk into the lovely town of Leyburn. We know the area quite well as have family who live close to Leyburn. All in all a truly lovely peaceful site. It was so quiet & dark at night so good sleeps for us! When it was time to leave, Richard once again helped us out as our motor mover wasn't working properly. Overall a great site with a very welcoming owner. I hope that by giving this good review that it doesn't mean the site is fully booked next time I try to book as we will definitely be back!

Our second stay at Craken House Farm and still the most amazing site!. We wanted to go down for the Leyburn Food Festival and Richard booked us in for 3 nights. As per last time, pitches are extremely generous. I'd explained to Richard that we were bringing the full works with us as I had a load of new gear I wanted to try out. He even remembered which pitch we were on last time and gave us the same one! In terms of pitch size we had a HiGear Kalahari Elite 8, 2 porches, canopy on 1 awning, windbreaks, the car and trailer and still plenty of space!
Richard welcomed us like family - he makes this campsite such an amazing place to be on! This year the temporary water points have been replaced by snazzy new ones with paving, hoses, drains etc. There is a wide array of smart bins for various types of rubbish. Although the facilities are minimal in number (1 shower and 2 loos for the men, same for the women), they are immaculate and spacious. The site only has 25 pitches so there is never any real wait.
The pot room has several sinks, a kettle in case you want a cuppa whilst washing up, a communal fridge with freezer section and a washer dryer (at a nominal cost). Again, it is all immaculate and comfortable.
This is a quiet, relaxing campsite on a working farm. Beautiful views over Wenselydale, short walk up to Leyburn (shorter walk to the Chocolate Factory!) and the area is very handy for trips to lots of places such as Forbidden Corner, Wensleydale Creamery, Black Sheep and Theakstons Breweries, Aysgarth Falls and much more.
No shop, no pub, no entertainment, no rowdiness - just peace and beauty. It's perfect! Leyburn is a 20 minute walk (5 minute drive) and has shops, restaurants, pubs and free wi-fi
