We've visited this site a number of times before with D of E groups, and although it's always been busy, we've been made welcome and had very enjoyable stays.
We were there again this weekend, and there seems to have been a change of ownership / management since our last visit. Staff in reception, although pleasant, were not au fait with the new computerised booking system, it took quite some time to find our booking, and we were not shown where to pitch as we have been in the past.
Despite the 'no noise after 10.30pm rule', the large group of people next to us had loud music playing until well after midnight, and the toilets / showers were dirty with little in the way of toilet rolls or soap, and didn't seem to have been cleaned at all during the time that we were there.
Still a pleasant site in an excellent location, but we will be exploring alternatives for future D of E expeditions.

We've just come back from a lovely stay at Newhaven Caravan and Camping Park. There were 6 of us in 3 tents.
I telephoned in the morning and were told that we didn't need to book. Once we got there in the late afternoon we were booked in very quickly and were directed to a nice quiet corner where we pitched our tents.
The site is quite close to the busy main road (seperated by heavy trees) but the noise didn't cause us a problem.
The toilet/shower block was never that busy despite the park being quite busy and was fairly clean with plenty of toilet paper etc. We only stayed for one night so didn't need to use the washing up facilities, but they looked very clean.
We decided to go for a meal in the evening but the shop had shut so we couldn't ask for diections to the local pub but decided to go for an explore and found a restaurant (The Carriage), this turned out to be very, very expensive!
We made a small fire when we got back to camp (nobody else had one going but there was nothing in the rules to say we couldn't) and this kept us warm while we enjoyed a few drinks.
We would certainly come back to stay at Newhaven but definitely for longer than one night so we can explore the area further.

This was the only site that had availability for a last minute booking (I had rang loads of others) I was told we could just come down. Two adults, one child and one dog. We had to pitch on a field with a slope, we weren't too bothered about this as it was just one night to try out our new tent, any longer would be a bit annoying.
The site was in a good location for the Tissington Trail, brilliant for cyclist. However was a bit too close to the main A-road for my liking.
The toilet facilities were clean and well stocked with loo paper and soap. The site was really quiet by 10.30pm
For my next trip I am hoping to find a site with a dog field as there wasn't anywhere I could let mine off his lead. (He is big and the wooded area to the side of the field is small). Will definitely come back with bikes to ride along Tissington Trail, which is very flat and safe for children.

Just had a stay at this site over the late May Bank Holiday. On arrival we were issued with our pitch which on closer inspection had quite a steep slope, on mentioning this to the warden he moved us to a leveller area between two pitches at no extra cost. We then had the problem that our hookup cable was to short, again the warden came to the rescue with a cable which was more than adequate.
The site itself consisted of a shop selling local produce and the essentials, two shower/ toilet blocks each with two showers for each sex, the blocks were clean and the free showers were warm and powerful. There was a small laundrette with a washing machine and a dryer. There was also a play area for the kids on which our three spent most of their time even though it was wet and windy ages 2,3 and 14, there were also wooded areas on the site to walk dogs and for the children to explore.
Add to this the surrounding peak district you have the perfect holiday location for the whole family. I must also mention the washing up area on site as this was the hub for the site community, people not only washed their crockery there but also had a chat and a laugh whilst there, in fact it was the high point of my 14 year old sons day to go there just to join in with the chin wagging, I even managed to get him to dry up bonus. On the whole this is an excellent site and I will be returning many times.

Just had a week here, booked 7 - 8 wks prior to arrival but wasn't allowed to pre book a pitch even after telling them of my disability. The main camping field is on quite a slope which I wasn't willing to sleep on, asked for bottom field which they said they would squeeze us in as most of the field was full or reserved for large groups. You can't reserve a pitch unless there are more than 8 people. Toilets etc are fairly clean but could do with toilet rolls checking more often as frequently ran out all through the bank hol. It was very windy and leaves were blowing in so possible need checking more than first thing in a morning as this was the only time I saw them being attended to. Also didn't see any disabled facilities although there was a lady there with a season caravan pitch in a wheel chair but if you need this please ask. The shop is well stocked and also sells some local produce to support local trade and reduce food miles.
The very right hand side, two thirds along of the bottom field was our pitch and we struggled to get the pegs in due to lots of rocks in ground and will need a nearly full set of new pegs, so take your delta pegs as we will now be investing in some. We ended up being flooded out mid-week due to a broken clay drain pipe, which the Owners Father (Duty Warden as Owners day off) seemed to know nothing about, until I pointed it out and the only suggestion made to help us was to go home for the night - 2hr drive away which faced with no alternative due to my state of health we did.
Arrived back next day and informed another Duty Warden we were back and intended to move our tent and was told to hurry up before someone else who had just arrived took the pitch we wanted ! At no point did the owners themselves even seem aware of our misfortune and even when we were in the shop later in the week was this mentioned. Also the Father offered to refund us the night we lost but this was never forthcoming
Very easy location for most of peak district Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock all 10 miles away just 30min drive with Sainsbury's in Matlock and Morrisons in Buxton. All attractions are again about a 30 min drive Chatsworth, Blue John Cavern and Heights of Abraham (quite pricey for what you get and very strict on last cable car down). Easy to find things to do and the caverns near Castleton are worth a visit especially on a grim Peak District day but not Speedwell as rainfall affects this one so ring before you go. All in all good holiday, site served it's purpose but we won't be returning.

We went here this weekend for an overnight stay, first time camping with 3kids and our dog in tow.
The site was really nice, staff were polite & helpful. The toilets were nice & clean. The kids enjoyed playing on the park and was a good first time experience. So much so that we wouldn't mind going back in the future.

This review is from the Site Owners
Just to let you know after reading the comments of Brodix (Sept 2007) we have changed the booking system. We now take a deposit of 10 pounds per vehicle when booking over the phone on a credit/debit card and then full payment is automatically debited 14 days prior to arrival.
Also all caravans, tents & motorhomes are free to choose the pitches at the bottom of the site, the only time this may not be possible is busy weekends in the school holidays or on bank holidays but if you book early and request for a particular pitch at the time of booking we will reserve these if they are free.
Thanks for all the feedback - we do read it and we do act on it.

Stayed here for weekend with friends who had touring caravans. All of us requiring electric hook up. We rang to book and after numerous attempts and messages [always seemed to be answer phone] got through and booked but had to pay in full by card over phone prior to arrival. On arrival we were shown to pitch by campsite owners who were very friendly, however although we were together we were very crammed in. The site is split into 3 levels, top area was static caravans and shop, middle area had some tourers [which was where we were] and touring vans that were there for the season. Our family tunnel tent and car filled the pitch and our friends awning guy ropes virtually touched the trailer tent next to them. The bottom area was a lot more spacious and had the toilet block which was clean although only 2 showers which were not powerful and were busy at times.
There was also a small play area but surrounding the bottom area was a wooded area which the kids loved playing in making rope swings and dens.
If going to this site I would recommend requesting the bottom field, as the pitches are pre allocated to you if booking.
Quite central area for visiting area but you do need to drive.

The site was in a great location. Situated between trees, it gave shelter from some bad windy weather. We stayed for 1 week and it was great. Only fault is the shower block is down the bottom of the site. Only one of the showers was good enough to use as the other had really bad pressure. Besides that we would come again, good shop on site, didn't get hassled from owner's at all.

This is a large site just of the A515, part of it being static vans, part of it for caravans, which looked very crammed in, and the bottom field where we were which seemed to mostly tents. There were several level hard standings a lot of them being used by tents for the hook up, though the tents were pitched on the grass, which made it feel very crowded. Though some of the reviews say that the facilities were excellent in my opinion they were only just above basic, there were only two showers in the block on our field (which weren't very powerful) and there was usually a queue in the mornings.
There were recycling bins for different bottles which was good but people seemed to find the need to noisily drop their bottles into them at seven in the morning. About a mile away near to Biggin is the Tissington trail for walking or cycling it is 13 miles to Ashboune. The high peak trail is even nearer. It is a nice walk accross the fields along the footpath to Biggin where there is a good pub with real ales and good quality food.
Back to the site, there is a rule which is only on a Friday that says you can't arrive before 2pm. When our friends arrived they were told by a couple of gents,'you can stop till four or half past on Sunday if you want there's no need to hurry off'. This we found was a different story when my o.h. Asked on sunday morning, he was told by a young man ' you have to be off by twelve we are fully booked'. Then our friend went up half an hour later not telling them what my o.h. Had been told and they said we could stay later. (Very hit and miss I feel). I have to say I was looking forward to this site and I was dissapointed, especially the area we were in, but I can see why campers like it because they can group their tents together, and it is nice for families. I would use the site again but only if I couldn't get in elsewhere or if it was out of season when I would hope it was less busy.
