The shop was very handy, very high priced though.
It was no problem of us having a pop up tent as well,
Although trying to get a good nights sleep with the traffic and the level of the hill. Both times we've been we've been on a hill so you find your self slipping down in the night which is a pain, the slope is where you camp and the caravans are on the flat.
The arcade needs to be updated as half of them don't work.
They have a very friendly dog and cat on the site. The wash and shower cubicle is kept very clean but a magnet to insects.
Good camp site overall.

We have just spent 4 days at Newhaven and have really enjoyed ourselves. Site staff met us and directed us to our pitch and explained where all the facilities were situated and how we could contact them if the shop was closed.
Yes there are only 2 showers in each block but if you timed it right then there wasn't a queue and there was plenty of hot water, this also applied to the washing up facilities.
Newhaven is very reasonably priced( there were 5 of us and 3 dogs!)and is ideally situated for Bakewell, Dovedale, Ashbourne, Matlock and Buxton. We will definitely return.

We stayed here on a Monday and Tuesday night between visiting friends in different parts of the country.
We didn't get the warmest of welcomes from the owners because we didn't know we had to block the access road to check-in. We were basically told where to site out tent which was on a slope near a couple of wasp nests.
The facilities were clean and functional with a small on-site shop with limited opening times.
Would we go back? Probably not! It's served its purpose as a stop gap between locations.

Have just spent two nights at this campsite.
The location is very good, there are numerous lovely Derbyshire villages to visit.
The approach to the campsite is attractive, with a tree lined drived. We arrived at 5pm, having been told that we could arrive between 1pm and 6pm. We weren't given any information about where the site facilities are and were told that they thought we weren't coming!
We were then told to follow someone to the pitch, who because they were on foot took a short cut across the middle of the camping field and promptly disappeared from site in amongst the tents and vans. We eventually found them in the middle of the field. A rather unfriendly welcome we thought.
We were in the bottom part of the main field which was full. The pitches are small and you are very close to your neighbour. However, they are big enough for a reasonably large tent and the closeness to others has its advantages - because you are surrounded you are very sheltered from the wind and we did not bother putting the windbreak up.
The site is very sloped however, and it's difficult to stop yourself sliding down your airbed at night!
As has been raised by other reviewers, the toilet and shower block is inadequate. It is in urgent need of updating and extending. There is black mould in the shower area (walls, door and ceiling) due to inadequate ventilation, along with chipped tiles.
There are two showers and there is always a queue. The water, however, was hot both mornings - in fact it was so hot the second morning I had to turn it down. So it seems, reading other reviews, we were lucky.
The water for washing up in the evening was only luke warm. The washing up area is also inadequate, three sinks and there is often quite a long queue.
We did not use the children's play area, although this seemed to be well used by the children on the site.
The potential for the site is there, they just need to update the shower/toilet facilities and produce a basic information sheet to give to new guests.

This site is ok. As its quite large, there can be a long walk to the toilets/showers but the facilities were good and were kept clean. The setting is nice and the location was good.
The pitches were spacious but on quite a steep slope where we were pitched. As someone else said, the fee was taken from my account for the full amount which I hadn't realised would happen.
Also, some of our party had to cancel and we had to still pay the full amount which I thought was bad - I expected to lose the deposit but not he whole cost. Another date in the season was on offer but we were unable to use this so lost the money.
On the whole, this site is ok though and we would probably use it again if staying in the area.

Stayed early July on this lovely site, it was very well looked after, clean and nice toilets.
It is a sloping site, so you just need to make sure you sleep the right way and a climb to the toilets, but it was worth it.
Found this to be very quiet after 10. 30pm which was great, even at the weekend when it got busier.
A nice little shop, although didn't open till 9am and didn't sell papers in the week only weekends. There is a garage within walking distance where you can get a paper if you want.
There is a park for the children, laundrette, a couple of amusement machines.
On the downside, we didn't find the manager lady very welcoming, plus when we booked we were told to pay £10 deposit on the phone and the rest on arrival, when we got there she said we'd already paid. On checking the bank this campsite had taken the deposit on the phone call as arranged, then a week later used our card details to take the rest without permission, which on telling them they don't think there is anything wrong, so please beware.
On this note we feel we would have loved to visit the site again, but due to the above situation that we feel was dishonest we will not visit again.
On the up side, the relief warden was an absolute asset to the site, he went out of his way to help, advise and very friendly.
Meals we recommend a very short car journey to Youlgreave. Two pubs both dog friendly, the Farmyard Inn, and the George Hotel. The George hotel even do a take away menu. Its a bit run down inside but believe me the food is fabulous so don't get put off.

Had a lovely week at this site in May during the school holiday break.
We stayed in an 8 man tent with 2 adults, 4 children and 2 dogs on the middle field. The pitch was slightly sloped but nothing compared to the top field and didn't affect us. We had electric hookup and these pitches are flatter.
On arrival we were greeted by the owners in the shop. Very straightforward checking and then we just followed the owner in his landrover to our pitch where he explained our boundary and where the facilities were located.
He did tell us the shop opening times although we needed something at 5. 30pm the night we arrived and he'd told us the shop was closing at 6pm but it was closed when we got there. Not very helpful!
We were quite close to all of the pitches around us and we now have a 10 man tent that I really don't think would fit on any of the pitches with hookup. There were more touring caravans on the site than tents and it seemed that most of those are there seasonally.
Although there were only 2 showers in each block we never had to queue although I did see some people queuing. You just need to time it right!
The toilet/shower block on the bottom field was never particularly clean but it was a wet week with lots of children about so I guess it would have been hard to keep on top of the cleaning.
The site was full most of the week and there was only 3 washing up sinks, which we had to queue to use every time. Not an issue for us but I could hear others moaning about it.
For most of the week the site was quiet by 10. 30pm but for one night there was a group that were talking and laughing very loudly until about 11. 30pm and I didn't hear the site wardens speak to them and ask them to just quieten down a bit. In fact I can't even say that I saw the site wardens the whole time we were there so I guess they were about somewhere.
Playpark was a good meeting point for the children. We had two 14 year old boys and two girls aged 9 and 10. They made several new friends during the week and had a great time playing in the woods building dens.
Spent most of the week going to Bakewell, which was very dog friendly! ALso went to the tram musuem because you can take dogs there and they are trying to win an award for being a dog friendly place.
The price for a nights stay at this site is fantastic! Can't believe how cheap it is plus dogs are free which is a real bonus!
I think we will return to this site again in the future because for what you get it is a bargain!

Booked into this site for a 3 night stay over the Royal Wedding Bank Holiday.
We were in a large party of 4 Tents so had hoped to be all together. We were in a way but we were put on a large slope at the side of the touring Caravans.
On the plus side we were in between both sets of toilets. For what seemed a large site there did seem to be a limited number of showers. 2 each male and female in each block. There was only 3 sinks to wash yours pots which got very busy at certain times of the day.
There were various signs all over the toilets and sinks telling you the water was 'Very Hot' this was a bit of a joke as it was hardly ever hot unless you got up at the crack of dawn for a shower and to wash your pots.
There was some problems with the electrics one night, luckily we had an electrician in our party and he did various tests and got it working again. The kids playground was a bit basic, just a few swings. Nobody seemed to mind our kids playing with a ball near our tents but we did try and keep it under control as best as possible.
The shop on site was well stocked with some essentials.
The site was an ideal base for the surrounding area. Sudbury Hall was about 1/2 an hour away. Ashbourne was nice. For a free day the Dovedale stepping stones were a nice walk. Local supermarkets were a bit of a struggle if you needed to shop for dinner.

We used this site to test our new tent. I thought the people running the site were very friendly. They patrolled the site regularly (though subtly) and on arrival said that if we had any problems with noisy campers to let them know and they'd have a word.
We had read previous reviews which said that groups tended to go on the bottom field by the road (which is actually the flattest part of this site). Wanting a quiet weekend we elected to be on the top field close. This field is a bit lumpier and sloping. If I went back I'd choose the open part of the field (not under the trees!) as that way you avoid the dawn chorus and the rain splodging off the trees on to your tent! The grass is also a better quality down there as it's not under the trees.
It was fairly chilly when we visited and early in the season so the site was pretty quiet. There were two toilet blocks and the ones we used had plenty hot water, hairdryers and were spotless. Not sure if they're always like this in high season but the cleaners spent ages cleaning them each day which was reassuring.
Some previous reviewers had complained about the lack of children's play area. I thought this a bit odd as there is loads of space for kids to run around and the swings on the bottom field are good (I tested them!).
One thing we discovered from this trial run of camping is that we like a pub to be within walking distance. There is 'Carriages' across the road but this has styled itself more as a restaurant than a pub and the seating's not set out like a pub.
I'd come back to this place if I was in a large group with children and didn't feel the need to stretch my legs and go off-site for a drink. The site itself was pretty tranquil and although you could hear the road at night the traffic was irregular.
All in all a canny site in a lovely part of the world. Being from a city I totally forgot about early closing times so we missed out on Ashbourne but I'd definitely return to this part of Derbyshire.

We have just returned from an enjoyable long weekend break in a tent at this campsite. We found this site using UKCampsite.Co.Uk and picked it for the facilities - shop, showers, playground, covered washing up area etc.
The shop was small but had everything we required - bread, milk, papers etc. It was easy to find and within easy travelling distance of Matlock, Bakewell & Buxton.
There were some minor bad points that I thought other people would feel useful. The tent field was slightly sloping - nothing too bad but you may need to prop your table legs up. The play area was not visible from the tent field which meant that young children could not go on their own but constantly pestered to.
Finally (and this is not so minor) there were only 4 showers for the whole (full) campsite, 2 at the top of the site and 2 at the bottom. These were sometimes hot and sometimes cold depending on how busy they were - this site needs to upgrade it's hot water supply as it is not funny to queue for 15 mins for a shower to be told that there is no more hot water.
