Just come back from a weekend camping with a group of consisting of 4 adults and 10 children. We were shown to a corner in the bottom field so we could put out tents up where we liked. Weather had not been too good so ground was a bit muddy, however this did not stop the kids playing in the small wooded areas behind the tents. The main bottom field area looked nicely kept. Shower Blocks are dated, but kept clean, and the large bin area cleared at least twice a day. A burger van arrived on Friday morning and Friday evening and also Sat morning and Sat evening and was very reasonably priced. For a site that only charged £12.25 per night, I would re-visit this site, as long as I am not put on the top field as this is too steep which you can see as you drive through the site.

The facilities are good with plenty of very hot water. They were kept clean even with everyone wearing wellies.
There is a small shop on the site selling the essentials. Even a small 'burger van' at various times.
I suppose it got a bit muddy with the rain but you can't blame the owners for that.
There was one noisy tent on the first night which raised a couple of complaints. This was swiftly dealt with by the owner and they were removed from the site for the following night.
Very close to Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock but there did not appear to be much within walking distance. But my walking distance isn't very far anyhow!
The children's play area could do with updating.

We just spend a weekend at Newhaven giving our new Outwell Idaho L a leg stretch before departing on our summer holidays.
The pitch was plenty big enough to accommodate us and the car, although the pitch was a little undulating, surely you must expect that in Derbyshire? On site shop was adequate, bread and milk etc. Good value pitch with electric point and site staff were extremely helpful and did not interfere. Facilities were in need of an update and expansion in my opinion, but never seemed to get busy, maybe as there were quite a lot of caravans on site. Little play area for kids aswell. I would give it another go.

Ok there are lots of reviews on here already so I'll be concise
Toilets and showers very clean no shortage of hot water and free
Washing up undercover, water very hot plenty of sinks so little queuing
Shop well stocked and prices reasonable for a camp shop
Staff very friendly can't do enough for you
Most people including the staff are very dog friendly
Two camping fields one (the top field) on quite a slope and noisier than the bottom field(where we camped) which is much flatter and set away from the statics and most of the touring caravans. No marked pitches they just request that you are at least 10m away from your neighbours.
Carriages restaurant across road (with a shortcut through the trees off the bottom field if you are too idle to walk far) lager no more expensive than at home. Staff were lovely they brought out a drink of water for the dog without being asked
And the most important part for many-price £12.50 for tent (ours is quite large 7m at its widest point) up to four people and the dog.
Can't fault it and yes we will be back.

Pleasant setting in the woods, toilets / showers ok. The prices seemed very reasonable. Only stopped 2 nights quite rowdy one night(a large group) and quiet the next. Playground nothing very exiting .Seemed about fifty kids having a water fight my kids loved it. Plenty to do within the area without having to travel too far. Tv reception very poor
Local to us and will be back

We have just spent a nightmare weekend at this site and not just because of the weather! When we arrived we were directed to the top field and told to just pitch anywhere there. We were faced with a huge hill that not even my car could climb because of the combination of heavy rain and gradient. I spent 2 nights sleeping curled up at the bottom of my sleeping bag having slid there overnight! The toilets and showers on the top field are nice and clean but there are not any washing up facilities there. For those you have to go to the bottom field. The top field toilets also close in the morning for cleaning. We shall certainly not be returning to this site!

We were a group of nine friends and family staying in four tents in the bottom field for a week. We were booked in quickly on arrival, but told to find our own pitches, (which was surprising as we had booked in advance and assumed we would have reserved spaces being a large group). Luckily we found a corner that we could all fit in to pitch together.
The site itself was well kept. The site shop sold milk, eggs and bacon (all locally produced) among other things, and froze ice blocks for you. The shower facilities were not as clean as I have come to expect. However, the showers were hot and powerful, and I rarely had to queue. The pot washing facilities were adequate, although more sinks would be helpful as there were always queues (looking on the bright side, this gives you chance to chat with other campers).
The site is not within walking distance of any shops or pubs, (apart from the expensive Carriages restaurant across the road which is rarely open!). There are plenty of attractions in the local area: the site is a short drive from Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock.
Overall, the site was pleasant enough, but the necessity of driving everywhere and the proximity of the A road to our pitches would prevent us from returning.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at this site, me my wife and 7 year old son, my first impressions weren’t that good. The toilet and shower blocks were average and could do with an update. There are said to be 2 parks on this site. One of them has 4 swings and the other has 4 swings and a climbing frame not much of a park for children.
There are no views as such but the area is very clean and tidy 10/10. There is a place to eat and drink in walking distance to a place called the carriages which is very very friendly again 10/10. But I like cider and the only cider they have is small bottles of strong bow so for 2 pints of strong bow and 2 halves of larger will cost you a staggering £12.00
Come night time there shouldn’t be any noise after 10.30pm our neighbours kept us awake until about 11.30pm and there wasn’t any body on site to enforce the 10.30 curfew.
All the staff are very pleasant and very helpful. The onsite shop is very small but sells enough for your needs.
All in all we wouldn’t go back to this site.
You have to use your car to get to the nearest pub which is about 3 miles away but is worth the drive.
Also it’s a long drive to the nearest shops.

Just returned from our first camping trip as a family. Myself, my two children and my father came along too to help me pitch the tent. So 2 adults 2 children. The pitch price was 11.50 and included 2 adults and 2 children.
We did a late booking, and as they couldnt fit us in on the fri due to bank holiday they said we could get there early on Weds morning, stay 2 nights and then leave on the Fri afternoon, thus enabling us to have a full day thurs without worrying about packing away until Fri morning.
The man on the phone said we didnt have to pay till we got there, but I enquired if I could pay there and then, which I did over the phone.
The site was easy to find, looked exactly like it did on their website too.
We booked in at the little shop with ease, just requiring our car registration number. They said we could pitch anywhere we liked on the top field.
The top field slopes quite a bit, but we found a spot without any dips in it, then parked the car at the top of the hill. Prior to our arrival they had had a lot of rain and the ground was squelchy but not too muddy.
The first night we stayed it rained heavily and our tent remained where it was and didnt slide down the hill as I had dreamt! Sleeping on a slope was bearable for 2 nights, with our feet downhill.
The small shop stocked a wide variety of things, from plastic cutlery, to tissues, to tinned food, to mallets, disposable bbqs, frozen saus, and burgers, lollies for the kids, cold drinks, frying pans, dog leads, notepads, pop, and more! The free range eggs were lovely and we also bought some bacon! They also did gas cylinders too! The staff were lovely and helpful, and at the end of the stay asked if everything was okay.
There was a small toilet block immediately next to the shop with the ladies having approx 6 toilets, 3 sinks, a hairdryer for use of 20p, and 2 showers.
There were flowers all outside, and hanging baskets which made it very pretty.
Behind the shop was a small laundry room with a washer £2 for a 30 min wash, and a dryer £2 for a 30 min dry. Although we didnt use these. There was also a small games room, with 3 arcade machines, also lots of information leaflets.
The bottom toilet block had the pot washing facilitys, under a canopy, and free hot water. Also 2 more showers and the deep sink for clothes washing in the ladies. I cant speak for the mens!
The toilets were always clean, lots of loo roll and soap.
There were 2 play areas for the children, altough they got a bit muddy in the wet weather. They would have been better with that spongy safety surface.
Dogs were allowed on site, and I never once saw any fouling. The warden was about constantly emptying bins and picking litter.
There were numerous water points, bin points, and a places for emptying chemical loos and waste water.
There is a garage out of the entrance, and a restaurant Carriages out of the gate also. Although the on site information does state this is expensive so dont say you are not warned! The onsite info also gave our lots of useful numbers, doctors dentist, taxi etc.
The site is sheltered from the trees, I could hear traffic noise slightly from the main road although it didnt bother me too much.
The local area, we were not far from ashbourne, we went to matlock bath, and also to Eyam, and encountered beautiful scenery.
Would use this site again.

The biggest waste of money ever spent!
When arriving on site we were shown to our pitch. We were pleased to see that it wasn't on too much of a hill compared to some, but was concerned by the state of what was meant to be hard standing. A little bit of wet and mud doesn't usually bother us - if we were on Scout Camp or walking over the moores that is! It had been raining, but we would have had less mud and mess if we'd been on the grass areas. The poor attempt at 'hard standing' oozed sludge through our breathable ground mat. We could not let our dog go into the awning unless we cleaned him off every time he came back into the caravan. We could not step into the awning without putting boots on and everything got muddy without even coming out of our vehicle.
We could not relax and just had to move on to a nicer site after just 1 night - even though we'd paid for 7.
The site had a well stocked shop and the toilet blocks were OK.
The caravan pitches were quite close together and it was quite noisy due to the adjoining A road (but that was the least of our concerns!).
Some people (other campers) looked quite happy on site - but not for us and we shall not be returning, sorry.
