First impressions of the campsite are:- nice and clean, well kept and very pleasant and friendly staff. We were in the bottom field and paid for hook up so were given a hard standing pitch. We pitched the tent in front of the hard standing and parked the car on the stone. We were very close to a large family of caravans and tents next door then another family with a tent arrived to our right hand side and were pitched just 4ft away from our tent. They also had friends arrive in a caravan who pitched 5ft away from us and parked their car on the grass part of the pitch we had paid for which was rather annoying. The camp shop has most things you might need but they are campsite prices. Shop staff are lovely and friendly and always willing to help. Toilets and shower block were clean but only 2 showers and the campsite was full which meant long que's if you wanted a shower in the evening. I found it best to wait until around 2 in the afternoon and then go for one. Only 6 toilets and sinks aswell which meant there were often people waiting. I would have thought for a site of this size which was fully booked there would have been more showers etc. There were 3 sinks for washing up and only 1 hot water tap so you have to take a bowl with you to get hot water to fill your sink before you can wash up. All in all the campsite itself was lovely, quiet and peaceful and set in the beautiful countryside but I dont think I would go back again as campers are too squashed together. A little too close for comfort at times.

Situated almost exactly half-way between Buxton and Ashbourne this caravan and camping site is ideal for those wanting a good base for exploring the Peak District. I went in a small tent and was made very welcome even though I think the site is geared mostly at caravans. I had the (slightly sloping) tenting field to myself in June in glorious weather!
The site is immaculate with pride obviously taken by the owners in gardening skills! I can only speak for the gents but the toilets and showers were very clean and modern with free hot water (30p for a 6 min. shower) shaving points and even a hair dryer (something I no longer need.) Only two (very)slight quibbles : The caravans were packed quite close together although far enough away from us tenters and there was some traffic noise from the nearby A515 which seems to be used as the local racetrack.
But overall a pleasant, thoughtfully planned site.Maybe a pound or so a night over the average but worth it for the facilities and the helpful staff/owners. Nice little shop, a mad sheepdog and semi-tame rabbits were a bonus!

we stayed here for a week at half term and would definitely go back. Despite the weather we had a great time, the site did get quite boggy but seeings as it rained constantly for 2 whole days that wasn't surprising. Needless to say our son didn't try the park as it was more of a swimming pool but did have a great time in the woods.
The shower block was kept as clean as humanly possible, but was prone to becoming quite damp. The laundry was a godsend as our little boy went through all his clothes in 2 days so the washer and dryer was a blessing. The owners are extremely helpful and pointed out all the best walks and good places to eats. We will definitely be returning hopefully in dryer weather conditions

Just visited Newhaven for the first time and had a great time (staff very friendly and helpful). The location is ideal for exploring Dove dale, the Tissington Trail and the lovely village of Hartington where you will find the Devonshire Arms which does lovely food.
Not being experienced campers, (only our 5th time), we were a bit concerned about going after reading some of the reviews about the site having a slope and that it can get very wet down the bottom field. We arrived on the Sunday for 2 nights after it had rained for 24hrs previous and the people down the bottom field did get very wet but with the amount of rain that had fallen I think that would have been the case anywhere.Because it was not very busy we opted for the top field (slopey one) and found the slope not to be a major problem.
The only problem we could foresee is there are only two showers for each field and the ones where we were are a little cramped although adequate. All in all a very nice 2 nights and i am sure we will visit again.

August 2004 We received a warm welcome a lovely pitch(under the trees and near the toilet block, very handy with young children.). The toilets were clean, the showers large and easy for children to use. Newhaven was our first camping holiday and wetted our appetie for more. I only hope the other sites we visit over the years are as wonderful.

July 2005 Although we arrived as the site was slowly filling up to full, we recieved a warm welcome and a very friendly brief introduction to the site. The owners were willing to answer questions any time of day, even when they did look very busy. The toilets were always clean and fresh, and the showers were only luke warm late in the day. The slope of the field was not a problem, as long as you pitched the tent correctly. The local pubs were very interesting. The closest, with the train theme was very friendly, including waitress service, but the pub further up the hill, the jug and something gave us a less than welcome greeting, insisting we were too late for drinks at quarter to ten in the evening on a saturday, and being, frankly very rude. Spent the day up at the otter and owl sanctuary near chapel en le firth, highly recommeneded.

Our second visit to this site with a large tent and 3 small kids. Can be difficult to get in here with a large tent as they told me they only allow big tents on the ends of rows - fine by me!
We were pitched RIGHT next to the kids play area in the bottom field, very basic with just a climbing frame and a few swings but the kids loved it and wanted to be there the whole time (very busy playground was a bit noisy at times right up to about 10.30 pm and watch out for the footballs!)
Also right next to the toilet block which was handy but the showers and washing-up facilities were really crowded even at 11pm. Basically clean but the floor was always wet and therefore muddy even though there had been no rain for days.
Very popular with youth groups (escorted thankfully) there were about 6 groups whilst we were there but not too much noise as they were too tired!
Perfect for exploring the Peak District and surrounding areas.
No major problems here and the staff are very friendly - will definitely be going back for weekends every now and then, I just wish the playground was a bit more exciting.

May 2005 Well situated as a base for exploring the Derbyshire Dales and High Peak Trails. Reasonable facilities. On site shop. Toilets, showers (free), Dish-washing, Laundrette etc. Queues for facilities at peak times.
Restaurant 0.25 miles. Take away 0.5 miles. Pub referred too in some guides is the Newhaven Hotel which is closed for major renovation. Nearest pub 3 miles.
Well sheltered by surrounding trees. Some parts of the touring site can get VERY boggy. Much used by escorted youth groups for one night stop-overs.

April 2005 As we were hiking when we visited this site, we had a very long walk to reach the reception/shop area. We had to walk almost the entire perimeter of the site, but had we realised there is a footpath straight off the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton road, we could have saved a lot of time and the nasty blister on my big toe!
When we arrived in the late afternoon it was getting misty and was very cold. The next morning when I unzipped my tent there was a thick fog. The ground was quite muddy in places. This site is ideal for caravans, but campers are not so lucky as almost the entire tent field is on a slope. Toilets and wash blocks are adequate but nothing special and there is a basic shop on site. Also provided are a small laundry with washing machine/tumble drier and ironing facilities, and adjacent is a games room with various machines.
Just across the road from the site is an unusual restaurant/bar called Carriages, which contains two old Pullman railway carriages used as the restaurant area. We just went in for a drink (waitress service) but the whole concept is very interesting especially if you are a railway enthusiast.

July 2004 I think we must have been on an 'off' weekend! There was a rally on the bottom field, so we had no choice but to stay on the (very) sloping field. The shower/toilet blocks were always clean, but the showers were always on the cool side - used no cold water in the mix and still was covered in goosebumps!! Although well placed for walking, we're not keen to try this site again.
