Lovely level site all hard standings with TV connection. We had a super pitch with our own fresh water and waste drain.
The toilets, showers, laundry and pot washing facilities were lovely and clean.
Site is between a railway and golf course. The trains only run infrequently so are not a problem.
Good dog walk of site around the edge of the golf course or into the village.
Shop on site with a few grocery and caravan essentials.
Good pubs, restaurants and shops in the village.
Site was let down by the fact they do not enforce their own rules. We had a ramp outside our van which the kids liked to jump over on their scooters in the evenings, ball games played near the van and occasionally kids running around in the toilets. This spoilt a lovely peaceful site which is a great base for all the North Wales attractions.

We stayed for 5 nights as part of our family holiday touring N Wales. I (26) stayed with my dad, half sister and her friend (15).
I think that this is one of the nicest sites we have stayed on in our 5 years of touring. We were pitched four caravans from the toilet block with the golf course on the other site of the hedge. There was very minimal noise from the golf course. The trains were noisy but infrequent and didn't cause a great disturbance.
The toilet block was extremely clean and luxurious with toilets, showers, sink cubicles and free (if not the most powerful)hairdryers. I wondered if there were enough toilets and showers for the site but it was always quiet. I used the washing up room and the laundry, both very good. Small shop well stocked with caravan items, bread, milk and papers.
The site was minutes walk from town where there was plenty of choice for eating and shopping outdoors stores! Excellent base for exploring N Wales as a whole.
I can see where other reviews have commented on rules citing no scooters or ball games etc but this was not strictly policed. Given the close proximity to the village we did not miss a clubhouse or park as we are able to entertain ourselves in peaceful surroundings!

Recently returned from a 5 night stay as part of a tour of North Wales. Superb location as could walk into BC with no problem so you can enjoy this lovely little place without having to use your car. The river can be accessed from the end of the site via the tent field - do bear this in mind with younger children as we didn't realise until they had been exploring and wouldn't have allowed them to go unsupervised if we had known. Our pitch was on the side of site adjacent to the railway line and sewerage works. I felt we really were a bit too close for comfort for both! Even on the 5th day because of the tranquil surroundings some of the trains were a real shock to the system as it is an old line, very noisy and they pass at quite a speed! As we have super weather the smell from the works was sometimes very overpowering. There too is a constant 'whirring' sound that we noticed particularly on an evening. Had a very nice meal at the Ponty-Y-Pair Hotel on a recommendation from a fellow camper. Also some of the best showers I have come across on a site. The laundrette was also very good although it was closed for cleaning at the same time as the toilets - meaning I had to wait 1. 5 hours to retrieve my smalls! As there is no park for the children, the rules regarding no use of scooters, ball games etc did seem a bit harsh as there was really not a lot they were 'allowed' to so. However, there is a large playing field if you take the river walk outside of the gate at the tent field (turn left) with goal posts etc and we were lucky enough to have a super 'grandad' next door who took our boy along with his to play rugby on an evening. To sum up you can't fault the site for proximity to BC or its super shower block but if visiting with younger children the close proximity of the river and trains and lack of things for them to do can make it a little less than the relaxing break mum and dad were hoping for. Staff were efficient and went about their business quietly but seemed pleasant enough.

Very pleased with the pitch which was really large in size but on the down side it is the most expensive site we have stayed on for some time. Facilities were clean and tidy and we were lucky being close to the toilet block. It appeared to be quite a long way for the units at the bottom of site. Easy walking distance for the town, shops, tourist office and eating places. Unfortunately we were told on arrival that the shop was going to be closed for 24 hours for stocktaking but we were given some notice at least. Trains do run alongside the site and the 9-hole golf course is along the other side. Neither of which bothered us but you can hear both. Plenty to see and do in the local area and we found the tourist office to be particularly helpful. Probably worth the site fees when you take everything into consideration.

A very neat well maintained campsite which is part static and part tourers and is very close to the shops, hotels and cafes in Betws.
There is a new amenities block with washing machines, veg preparation etc. In the Gents there are 3 loos and 4 showers. Is this enough for the amount of pitches? I am told that the ladies is similar.
There is a normal size railway line running alongside the site, it is very rattley and the first train comes through at 0600 hours. It appears that they are on the hour every hour from than onwards.
As Caravan Club members we paid £27. 30 for a motorhome and two adults. On the phone when we booked one week before arrival we were informed that the price was £25 and confirmation of booking would be sent in the post. It wasn't!
On the plus side there are no ball games, scooters, skates etc allowed.
We were disappointed with the site as we felt we were a bit close to the other pitches with little privacy. We were also on a pitch where the road split into two with a very nice grassed area which we couldn't use as dog owners constantly allowed their dogs to pee on it. I doubt we will return.

We had picked a fabulous week to visit Wales, warm, hot at times and sunny from morning to evening every day. There is not much to add to any of the foregoing reviews; the site itself is well kept, fantastic toilet block etc. I cannot believe however that nobody mentions the sewage works! We were completely engulfed in the stink from the sewage pump which is right behind the railway (which runs behind the pitches)and between the railway and the river. We were told it happens now and again but it stank on the Friday (a rare hot evening in Wales), smelt on the Saturday evening and was wafting again on Sunday morning before we left. One other visitor to the site commented that she lives near a pig farm so all in all it wasn't too bad! Not a brilliant recommendation. Would we go back, sorry no. Not all the staff were friendly either, as has been mentioned in a previous review.

Just back from a full week at Riverside. What a great site and it’s a credit to the owners and the staff who run the site day to day.
Easy registration and soon on our pitch setting up. The super pitches have everything, space, water, electric and a tv point.
The shop is well stocked and you can order your daily paper for an 8-30am pick up the following day.
The washrooms are very clean and comfortable.
Betws y Coed is a great base to explore North Wales and we had day trips out to Barmouth, South Stack Lighthouse and Llandudno which were all less than an hours driving time.
We will definitely be back, its one of the best around.
I would say having read a previous post about caravans being crammed in and quantity over quantity is a strange comment in my mind. The pitches are probably the biggest I have ever seen and will take a caravan, awning and car easily with space to sit out too.

The location of this site is excellent - you can walk into the town of Betws y Coed in a few minutes and find a reasonable range of pubs and places to eat; shops are adequate but many tend to be a little 'touristy' offering gifts and outdoor clothing. Betws y Coed is a good base to tour northern Snowdonia, with plenty of walks nearby as well as pretty lakes to visit. It is close enough to the coast for a day out at Llandudno and other resorts.
We have stayed at Riverside on several occasions, and regard it as one of our favourites. Pitches are spacious, staff helpful and facilities amongst the best we have seen anywhere. Some reviewers have commented on the noise from trains but they are infrequent and we do not find them a problem.
There are no specific facilities for children, but a narrow (sometimes fast) river runs past one end of the site.
Riverside tends to be expensive by some standards but there is a discount for members of the C&CC and CC. There is also a loyalty scheme for repeat visitors.

This is a great site but I have this hanging question on if it is 5 star and I cannot put my finger on exactly why I question it.
The good points:
Fantastic spot. The railway is no bother. The first train in the morning is just after six then hourly from there on but you start to rely on them as your alarm after the first day. Then you nod off and miss the just after seven and think the just after eight is it but who cares when you are on holiday? Our 2 Mini-Schnauzers that's who. On the bed with their legs crossed!
The dog walk is great. A nice level walk around the golf course or a free run turning left to the village.
The facilities are immaculate. Two blocks would be better but moaning is churlish.
The site is very well cared for with no problems on any aspect.
Being able to walk into the village is a great advantage even though the train coach posing as a cafeteria at the station looks like a slum from the station. Didn't use it so cannot comment on the inside and service.
The pitches are of a great proportion for the caravan, awning and car and the fully serviced pitch is great.
So why the 5 star question?
A minor negative is not having 2 keys for the facilities. Seems silly not to issue 2 keys even if a £5 deposit would be required.
The close proximity of the neighbouring pitch maybe another point. It seems that they went for quantity and slightly squeezed the quality.
We had 2 days of heavy rain and the water was coming up through the awning matting and the odd pitch was partially flooded. Again lack of investment during the build.
Having said all that would we return?
Oh yes!
Cracking site in a cracking place but please offer 2 facility keys!
Drive safely and enjoy life.

Just returned from 3 nights at the site following recommendations from a friend. The site was very easy to find and ideal for both Beyws Y Coed and Snowdonia in general. A beautiful tidy site that I could not fault. Everything was very clean and the shop stocked all that we needed. If you need anything else then there is a Spar and Londis in the town. Nearest pub the Royal Oak is a 10 minute walk which also does good food. If you want something a bit more special then try the Ty Gwyn Hotel. All the pitches are hard standing and some are fully serviced.
I only have one negative comment related to the female reception staff who could of tried to smile and make us feel a bit more welcome. But we will be back.
