We first arrived at this campsite excited after reading the reviews. The views and walks in reach of this campsite are amazing with a full view of mam tor and a stones throw away from blue John caverns.
Unfortunately the campsite owners saw that we were a young group (23) and obviously assumed the worst. We were told it would be best if we went some where else that welcomes our age group! A noise charge of £5 was gained by them. They asked us at least three times for our payment receipts and counted our cars against the order. The first night we were also joined by the owner asking us to keep the noise down because of complaints. Baring in mind he had awoken us to tell us this (long day of walking!). Later that night I awoke to the sound of the owner riding up and down the farm on his quad bike!
The second night, having being nice, we stayed up a little longer and had a BBQ. That night we had noticed a large family, whose dogs ran around and kids bleeted till the early hours. A word was exchanged to keep control of the dogs. The next day while, half way through breakfast. The owner arrived on his quad and told us we had half an hour to pack up our tent and leave his campsite due to the noise we were making the night before!? A little confused and angered I quizzed him for his reasons. He told me that ever since we had set foot on the campsite we had caused trouble and we were disturbing families with young children across the way
In conclusion the site itself was nice with great potential. Unfortunately I cannot tell the full extent of the surroundings having only being permitted to stay for roughly 36 hours.

This is a no frills campsite with basic facilities. The mens toilet block has plenty of sinks (no soap) and toilets, which seemed to run out of toilet paper. The showers were 10p a go and had plenty of hot water. Personally, I thought it could do with a lick of paint, but they were clean. Round the back of the ladies block are the pot washing sinks. There is a bucket for hot water, which is used to fill up your sink, then you simply top it up with cold water.
There is a cafe on site, serving nice food, as well as a post office, which sells plenty of things at reasonable prices. There is the well known Nags Head pub selling some nice beers, although I thought the food was a little on the expensive side.
Further down the lane there is a tourist information / mountain rescue site, which tells you everything you could possibly want to know about the area.
Further still you will find another nice pub named The Rambler, which is also very good. Oh, and the railway station, so getting to Manchester / Sheffield couldn't be easier.
Getting back to the campsite, the fields are on a slight slope but are very well kept and pleasant to pitch on. There are tall trees surrounding the site and help to shelter it from the wind. I would say that to stay the night at £7.50 was good value for money and is an excellent place to start walking from. What a beautiful valley. If you are looking for a place that has a club house and plenty of entertainment for the kids then go somewhere else.

The location of this site was wonderful right in the peaks on the edge of the Pennine Way. Gave lovely walks from the site and fantastic views of the surrounding hills. Howeve we were shown where to pitch up with no choice by a man of very few words! Most of the pitches were for tents and it got quite crowded and thus quite noisy- we had school and college groups as well as families. I am not very fussy but the toilet and shower block had seen better days and was rather old and tatty being in a old farm building. However there were plenty of toilets and showers and hot water.

I have to say it was a cracker of a weekend, and we felt that we were very much at home with Mr and Mrs Cooper.
Mr Cooper was very proactive in his night time noise patrols ensuring that the noise was kept to a minimum (In fact the quad that he travelled around on was the noisiest part of the patrols).
The on-site Cafe was very good, especially the breakfasts.
Top weekend and will be returning soon.

Usually stay at this site once or twice a year as it is quite local to me. Went there with the family and a couple of friends and stayed in the family field.
You forget how stunning the scenery is. The view must be one of the finest in the country, certainly for an inland / valley camp site.
The hosts were very busy and Mrs Cooper spoke to us late on the Saturday night as we had a crackle log on the BBQ, she was very good about it and was checking that the fire wasn't going to get out of hand or that we were burning timber.
The facilities are basic but fine and the sire represents good value.
I think that we will will be there another couple of times this year.
Close to the pubs and not as busy as I expected it to be which was also good.
Great place that I would recommend.

Have used this site several times now.
The toilet block etc are basic but clean. Mens toilets could do with a painting.
Price is reasonable £7 for night and £3 deposit refundable on leaving next day. They do tell people off for noise after 11pm so top marks there. And there is a nice cafe on site or a 3 min walk to the pub.
Not too bad over all.

We spent the weekend with family and friends that stayed in tents and caravan. What a fantastic time we all had. The campsite was excellent and friendly helpful staff. I have seen reviews regarding MR Cooper. I found him helpful and friendly. He’s a farmer and spends a lot of his time working both farm and campsite.
The site facilities were basic but plentiful and kept clean. Excellent cafe. The surrounding hills where breath taking what could you ask for. Very nice pub just across from the campsite and great walking routes to explore some beautiful scenery.
I will be definitely going back to this site. I stay in my caravan which had loads of room from other caravan. Site was kept very clean

I took my two little ones here for a quick weekend away with my brother and his family. It was the first time I had visited the site for 26 years. It hasn't changed much. The toilet and washing facilities are basic but functional. The lady who booked us in was helpful and warned us that there was a school party in the field.
The pitches were flat and dry, the tent pegs went in with no problem and the grass was lush.
The site is well positioned for walks and is yards away from the start of the Pennine Way. Edale is a lovely location with a couple of pubs shop and train connection to Manchester and Sheffield.
The only warning I would give is the site does get groups of students and as you will always get with youngsters there can be a bit of noise.
All in all a good weekend away.

Arrived on site early as was not allowed to book as it was a first come first served basis. Then we had to pay a noise pollution fee which was crazy but refundable obviously had problems in the past. Found the toilets in need of refurbishing and lights were switched off outside & inside(no push button/switch found inside either)when we returned after last orders which was crazy.
The owners were a bit stern, even accused us of being noisy when were not even there as we were in the pub after a complaint had been made in our area.
Good point is its got a cafe on site and is nicely located to a pub that serves great food ( Nags Head) Ramblers down the road is great as well for families especially.

From the word go we were made to feel a little unwelcome due to the fact it was suspected that as we were celebrating a birthday and there was a group of 12 of us we would be rowdy (even though the youngest member of our party was 27 and the oldest in their 50's). However, after a few false starts we found the owners pleasant enough although it was a little off putting being patrolled once it got dark.
The facilities were basic but clean and the local pub served a good pint so we just got on with it.
Neither my wife or I feel we will go back there in future but our visit did inspire us to sign up for a Go Outdoors card, buy a newer larger tent and get ourselves out there to see what the rest of the Peak has to offer. Every cloud as they say!
