We spent 3 nights at Coopers in June and had a fantastic time. The shower and toilet block is basic but more than adequate and was regularly cleaned.
On arrival I was greeted by the site owner who, although wasn't exactly chatty was pleasant enough.
Overall our experience was very positive, fantastic location, good beer in the local pub and Kinder Scout a short walk away!

More like fields with toilet block than a campsite. Its a sideline to a working farm. I use to camp here when I was a teenager when hiking with mates. Twenty five years later its still the same, with one exception, the cafe. It was an old railway guards van all those years ago,now its a modernish looking stone building.Everything else is exactly the same. Toilets were kept clean, showers OK.Shop at entrance to site has the basics if a tad pricey for some things.
Many reviews of this site slate the owners for being miserable. We found the woman to be the exact opposite although the bloke did have that 'lost a tenner, found a fiver' look about him.
'The noise deposit' hmmm. Quite why me and the wife, on our own and in our early 40`s were deemed to be a noise risk and had to pay £5 noise deposit I don`t know. Pointless really as he wouldn`t have known it if we`d been screaming our heads off. Tractors left ticking over for an hour, animals being shifted in the worlds most rattly trailer for a couple of hours etc
Good points:
Cheap :) Close to pub and train station.Toilets OK
Surrounded by gob smacking scenery and walks.
Bad Points:
Nothing really despite above comments. As they say You get what you pay for.

The best thing about the campsite is the location: Edale is beautiful, the village is lovely and the local pubs are very welcoming (if a touch expensive). The campsite itself is OK and the toilets are old but reasonably clean. The camping fields are pleasant enough, but quite sloping, which prevented a good nights sleep. To be fair, there probably isn't much flat ground for miles around.
However, customer service was very disappointing. Upon arrival, I tried to book in and had to stand outside in the pouring rain for a good 5 minutes before I was finally allowed to pay. The reception experience was gruff at best, bordering on aggressive, and I got the impression we campers were something of an inconvenience.
We will definitely go back to Edale - it is highly unlikely we will go back to Coopers. Probably best for couples and individuals who value their peace, and the view.

I have to confess I love Coopers, I've been camping there off and on for about thirty years, yes this is a no frills campsite with basic facilities and if you want luxuries don't camp here but it does what it 'says on the can'.
So it has basic, but OK, facilities but is surrounded by so much. The Old Nags Head is a stones throw away and offers very good value for money food and a wide range of quality beers.
The cafe on site is reasonable but there's also the Penny Pot further down the village which does very good food. We also liked the Rambler pub as an alternative to the Naggs, a bit more expensive but also a bit better quality.
Coopers is situated at the start of the Penine Way and there are plenty of lovely walks that start from here. We're planning to go back to Coopers for the Bank Holiday and can't wait!

Stayed at this campsite lfor 3 nights based on some friends previous visits.
It's an old fashioned site which has all the facilities you need. The toilet blocks have plenty of sinks and toilets, but wasn't well stocked. You would definitely need to bring your own toilet paper and hand wash/soap. The showers are 10p to use which have plenty of hot water. Other facilities are pot washing sinks, and drinking water taps located around the site.
The fields are on a slight slope, but if you get there early enough you should be able to get settled on a flat surface.
Didn't have much dealings with the owners, so can't really comment. They seemed to be busy keeping up with the upkeep of their working farm.
The site is near the start of the Pennine Way (and there are various walks to do - Mam Tor, Lose Hill and Kinder, Barber Booth, Ollerbrook Booth and Nether Booth).
There is a cafe on site (but never used this) and a Post Office which sells general supplies. The Nags Head is just outside the campsite, and further down the road (about 5 minutes walk) there is The Rambler pub, which is ideal for children and has animals on site. There is also the Penny Pot cafe which is run by the National Trust that serves a lovely breakfast or afternoon tea. The train station is also near this.
If you fancy driving (or walking) into Castleton, we would definitely recommend the Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn, How Lane, Castleton, Hope Valley. The staff were very friendly, and the food was excellent.
Overall, the site didn't have all the mod cons and can appear like you're going back in time, but it did provide the majority of things that you'd need to make ease of your stay and is well located.

Facilities just fine- don't know what everyone's moaning about! It cost me and teenage daughter £4 each per night and we didn't have to book, so we weren't expecting the Hilton- some sites don't even HAVE toilets. It did, however, get very full, a bit too intimate if, like me, you're not a morning person and you're faced with strangers 2 feet away as soon as you emerge- but that's camping for you. On-site staff all very friendly and accommodating (no pun intended), particularly cafe with excellent veggie breakfast. Slight problem with some noisy men who arrived at 11.30pm, insisting on providing top-volume, running commentaries on not very interesting stuff, they quietened down when I explained my daughter was asleep but some people might not be comfortable keeping other 'residents' in check.
Overall very pleased though and will return!

Just back from the Edale Barrel Run weekend.
Had a great time, and just wish they would have put some effort into this site! I'm sure more and more people are choosing alternate sites rather than shelling out on this place.
(I do it as I'm nuts!)
Toilets are desperate for refurbishment, and the place needs some of the profits re-invested on the site. Perhaps some low-key lighting on the site would help when returning after dark to your tent from the Nags Head.

Whilst this site was not our original destination we found the facilities to be both adequate and suitable if a little basic, the fields themselves tend to be a bit slopey, however if you are in a relatively sizeable group it may cause a few problems, also I am guessing that this site doesn't really cater for the noisier element. You have been warned. However this site offers a relatively good standard of amenities for a reasonable price, they are good eating establishments close by and the scenery as one would expect is fantastic.

I have just arrived home from a 4 day stay here and I must say was a little reserved after reading some of the reviews but the site was recommended by several camping friends. Our family of 2 adults and 3 children under 10 had a wonderful time. We arrived on a wet Thursday daytime. On arrival Mrs Cooper was very helpful and polite. We were given our instructions where to roughly pitch and asked politely not to park on the grass due to weather.
The facilities although basic were always clean and there is plenty of hot water 10p showers and hairdryers. The site was very clean, grass was cut.
The site was quiet especially at night and the views are stunning. The room for pitching was huge and we had an eigth man tent. There is a cafe and shop and two local pubs which are both very nice.
This was a fab site and well worth the £14.00 a night for all 5 of us will definitely be going again fab fab fab.

Just come back from this site over the Bank holiday and would highly recommend it. The location is ideal as its a 5 minute walk to the beginning of the kinder scout with amazing views from the campsite. The facilities are basic but they were fine, and there is a little shop and cafe on site with amenities. At the front of the entrance is a really nice pub as well, which serves reasonable food and drink and good beer garden.
I was a bit unsure about the owners of the site as previous reviews have said they are a bit of a nightmare, but we only dealt with the Women who seemed really nice and welcoming. We are looking at going back to Edale soon and I would definitely stay here again.
