We stayed here for 2 nights weekend in August, a family of four and 2 couples plus a very energetic border collie puppy. We had a great time, the facilities are great for a short stay, nice hot showers long enough for 10p. As others have said do take your own toilet roll. The walks around are great, we all tired ourselves out!
There is a noise deposit which we all collected on the way out with no problems, the family didn't have to pay this so I assume it is couples who do or groups.
With the weather being good I could easily stay for a week, two nice pubs a stones throw away although we were quite happy sitting by out tent with the BBQ fired up!
Mr and Mrs Cooper were fine, maybe not very talkative but as it has been said they are busy farmers! We have just booked to go back in three weeks for the beer barrel race and I had a lovely chat with Mrs Cooper. I would recommend it, go and take your tent, wellies and toilet roll and enjoy!

I visited midweek with a small backpacking tent and found the site perfectly adequate from a walker's perspective. Yes, the shower block is showing its age but the water was hot and a single 10p gave me a lovely hot shower after a day's walking. The fields are sloping (I was in the top field where the slope was probably the worst - you need to make sure you pitch the tent correctly so you don't roll sideways with the slope!) but I have seen worse. The shop on site is handy as is the proximity of The Nag's Head for a pint and a meal. It was school holidays and the site was busy, although not full, but I found it quiet, particularly beyond 8pm when it started to get dark. Facilities are basic so I'm not sure about suitability for a longer family stay but I was perfectly satisfied with my night's stay for £4.50.

Stayed here for 2 nights - 2 adults, 2 children - really enjoyed Edale - site in a lovely situation. Having read the reviews, but unable to get into other sites - I wasn't looking forward to the owners, but having been warned by the reviews I just remained pleasant and Mr Cooper was soon very nice, helpful and even chatty - he is a working farmer and a bit gruff at first - that's all.
Site wasn't very full, which we liked, and we had only a slight slope.
Toilet block basic - take flip/flops for the showers, but there was plenty of hot water and I used 1 10p for the shower, there is also a hair dryer (10p) in the ladies part.
Nags head was a bit expensive for food . £5 for a sandwich (home made bread) and salad
Walking up Kinder Scout on the hottest day of the year so far - we found a lovely river and picnic spot where the children played all day - to hot for walking to the top - but we will be back

This is in a fantastic location, with great walking from the site. The facilities are basic but clean and more than adequate for a short getaway. This was the second time I have visited this campsite and unfortunately I will go out of my way not to go back again. Despite all the positives of location facilities etc, it is let down by owners that are impolite, and generally seem to resent the fact that they are allowing campers onto their fields. I would have put this down to catching them on a bad weekend, but this is the second time I've been, with exactly the same service

To be negative. On pre booking we had to book Fri/Sat & Sunday night, so if you want to go dont book just turn up ( like everybody else did on saturday). Grass was way too long. The toilet block is very dated, you have to take your clothes in the shower cubicle with you, guess what happens. When using the toilets you are confronted with hard paper, so take your own. Wash your hands and let them drip dry, no hand towels or dyers. Try to pitch your tent on a flat bit (not possible) the whole site is on a slope, spent all night clambering back up the tent. The noise deposit ?.
£5 per tent, I wonder how many forget to collect it on the way out.
To be positive. Great views, Kinder Scout one way,Mam Tor and rushup edge the other, great for walkers. Pubs, you can crawl to the Nags head and walk to Tha Rambler in 5 mins.
All in all not for us to big and to noisy(whoops £5 in the post).

Just visited site on the Bank Holiday at the start of May.
All the comments about this site being unfair with the 'Noise Deposit' mystify me, Mrs Cooper never asked me for this or the other people queuing to pay.
Campsite had noise up until about midnight each night we stayed, which was frustrating as I was expecting this to be a quiet site. And added to this was the fact that people working for Mr Cooper were driving the tractor back and forth until almost 12 each night too didn't sit well with me.
Plus the insistance from Mrs Cooper that we could not pitch unless we paid for the whole B\Holiday weekend was just plain greedy at $15 per night for 1 tent. We counted at least 80-100 tents plus 35 caravans\camper vans meaning they were taking about £1900-2100 per night for a field and a toilet (you pay to use the showers).
On the plus side the Nags Head didn't let us down with Great Food\Beer\Warm Fire.
And by the way, the Locals\Walkers pub entrances are just signs above doors that have always been there (again from previous review comments on here). They are not rules that the pub adhere to and you can wander to whichever side of the pub you like.

This was the familys first camping trip, when our next-door neighbours took us here for the weekend. Basic facilities, but all you need really, especially if you are into walking all day and really just want somewhere to crash afterwards. Toilets and showers could do with an update but functional. Post office/shop on site selling essentials plus outdoor clothing and bits. Splendid real ale pub across the road and a cafe on site. Access to the pennine way just past the pub. Ehu for campervans only.

We used this for a one night stay to take in some walking over kinder scout. The campsite is more than adequate for this type of stay. The showers are old but ok and do the job. The pitches are on a slight slope but not too much of a problem. There are two pubs located near to the site and the nags head is right on the doorstep. The other, the ramblers, has a great children's play area and both have a good atmosphere. There is an adequate shop located with the post office at the bottom of this site, also a cafe though I found this a tad expensive. The owners are friendly and maintain quiet nights(the £5 noise deposit may have something to do with this). Overall a pleasurable stay and would recommend the site for short stays. Not a suitable site for young children in my opinion.

Just been for the Beer Barrel Race Weekend.
Campsite was great (but grass definitely needed cutting). Everyone seems to go on about Mr Cooper being miserable but he just looked like a busy farmer who works long hours.
The toilet\shower blocks do need a small refurb but more importantly they need more lights! As soon as you close the door on a toilet cubicle you are plunged into darkness!
Views of the surrounding hills are tremendous.
Prices are very cheap for tent and car.
Noise levels were very low to nothing, apart from crows in the trees at the back of the site from 6am onwards!
Saturday night was a little noisy due to all the people returning to the site from the earlier race day at the Nags Head, but still acceptable considering most had been in there drinking for something like 12 hours for a special weekend that only occurs there once a year.
Although one thing I would say they should have a separate walled off field for the campers who snore!
I'd recommend it.

I would like to point out straight away that I have never felt compelled to write a review on this site before and I'm sorry that my first one is going to be so negative. I've just got back from a one night stay at Cooper's campsite. I went to Edale (been many time before but first time at this campsite) on my own with one man tent and in the car. The weather forecast suggested that the long awaited British summer would be taking place this weekend so I saw an opportunity to give an newly acquired digital camera a 'shake-down'. I have stayed at other sites in the valley before and thought I'd give Cooper's a go because of the sites proximity to the shop and pub.
I wish I hadn't. A very frosty reception from the female in the camp office when I arrived together with being asked to pay (something I have never come across before) a £2 'noise deposit', did not set the scene for a relaxing weekend I'm afraid. I was directed to the top field only to find the area pretty much full with no flat pitches left and so consequently spent the night sliding towards the door of the tent.
I gather from speaking to others on the site that I had not been singled out to receive the proprietors surly welcome and that seemingly an atmosphere of 'prison camp camaraderie' had been created because of her poor customer care technique.
In short: If you're going to Edale, try the other sites first.
*All amenities were basic but functional*
I won't be going back again.
