I love this site and have been there many times. Yes it's a bit rough and ready but surely that's the point! Located in possibly the best area in the peaks and very cheap. The owners can come across as a bit grumpy but I think that's all part of the act, and if you take the time to speak to them they're actually always friendly.
It will be a very sad day indeed when this place is 'improved' with a children's play area and updated toilet block; but until then let's make the most of it :)

A no frills campsite in a fantastic location. We turned up without pre booking an they managed to fit us in with hook up. They were in the middle of lambing and we had to wait a bit while they finished a few jobs but that's fine as it's a working farm and while waiting they let me stroke one of the orphaned lambs. The facilities are basic but clean, plenty of toilets and showers which are 20p and an outdoor pot wash area. We didn't use the cafe but it looked good. They have a post office and shop which was well stocked. The campsite got busy the next day but not over crowded or noisy. Walks to kinder scout etc start from a path next to the farm so its a great base for walking. We tried both pubs in the village and thought the ramblers rest was the better of them. It's also a lovely walk over to Castleton with caves, shops, pubs etc We paid £34 for two nights with hook up for two adults and a dog.

Visited Coopers for the first time in 13 years. Stayed 2 nights and once again enjoyed the experience. The toilet block and wash up area have grown to accommodate the number of people using the site. Showers 20p for loads of hot hot water, lovely after walking for the day. Had a coffee at the cafe at site entrance but the smell of the bacon cooking made me feel hungry, the breakfast are quite renowned. The weather had been wet up to our arrival but the field wasn't muddy as car owners were asked to keep cars to edge of field.
There is the post office next to the site where you can obtain bread and milk daily papers and the Old Nags Head across the road. There is another pub in the village, Ramblers Arms, which is nearer to the railway station and although both pubs are owned by same company they couldn't be more different. Lots of walks in all directions so spoilt for choice.

We have just returned from a (wild weather) weekend camping at Coopers campsite in Edale. I am glad to report that it hasn’t changed at all and still retains the charm of a proper campsite, no frills, cheap showers, good washing up facilities and stunning views of surrounding hills. Our first choice of campsite was in Lancashire but we couldn’t camp there because the owner said it was too wet. So we set off for coopers safe in the knowledge that after doing several winter camps there and we wouldn’t be turned away. We got there at 7pm pitched up in a spot of our choice to the left of the main path. If you are looking for all the latest mod cons and entertainment found at places like Haven then this campsite could only be described as being at the other end of the scale. We were the only ones camping there this weekend so we had the place to ourselves, we have also camped there in the middle of summer when the place is buzzing with people, there aren't too many rules at the campsite just the usual ones about no noise after a certain time; pick up your dog poo, use the bins and don’t burn the grass with BBQs. There is a small shop near the site and a walker friendly pub within easy reach. The main attraction of coopers is the stunning location and the campsite blends in with the character of its surroundings, having got back home I feel like I have been to a different world and I am already thinking about my next visit.

Late review of Coopers as I go about once a month. Great place to escape to due to the fab location in the village of Edale. Campsite very basic but plenty of toilets and 3 showers. Undercover area for pot washing. Only £7. 50 a night for tent. No EHU for tents but then again it is used as a base for walking so don't need the leccy. Campsite is a stones throw from Nags Head and 10 mins from Ramblers. I have just completed my first ever solo camp and felt very safe due to location of campsite. It is only a 15 minute walk from the train station which is ideal for backpacking

Spent two nights in brilliant weather here. Campsite very busy but you wouldn't really know as there was no noise. Not being able to have a fire was an issue as the midgies are very bad. Toilets in need of renovation as seats and cisterns broken but plenty hot water and showers only 20p. Would definitely use this site again if in the area but would stock up with citronella candles beforehand.

Been a couple of times in 2014.
It is what it is. A walkers site and not a children's holiday park.
I've got used to the Coopers at long last, they are in fact a great couple. It's us lot that are the issue. Lol.
Site slopes, it's a field.
Find a sheltered area, enjoy the quiet and views of the hills. It is after all, why you are there.
No fires as it's a danger of sparks to tents. That said, just use your BBQ charcoal.
Showers and toilets are yes dated, but they are functional.
For the price of the site, it's adequate and any work needed is usually done.
In bad wet weather you can't park on the grass. That's good as who wants to pitch in mud in the weeks after as cars churned up the grass.
I can't wait to return.

We stopped in a small tent at this site over the 2014 Easter Bank Holiday weekend. We selected the site after reading previous reports on this website. We got what we expected. The site is a working farm, so the pitches are not ‘designated’ but ‘find a spot’ works well. Although it was bank-holiday weekend, there was plenty of space left in the large fields. The facilities are basic but plentiful. The toilet & shower block is basic but clean. Plenty of basins, WC’s and showers. Hot water was always there.
Across the road from the site entrance is a great pub, The Old Nag’s Head. Great atmosphere, great beer and outstanding food. Finding a table was a bit hit & miss, but well worth a try.
There is a small shop at the site entrance with well-balanced stock for campers. There is also a cafe at the entrance, which has a good comfortable atmosphere, helpful staff & great bacon baps (they do other great food too!).
The Edale area obviously has major appeal to a wide selection of people, a lovely area with plenty of attractions around.
The only suggestion I would have for the site operators is – please, please, please arrange for hand drying facilities in the toilet block. The site would then tick every box for us. We will be back to this site.

Another visit to Coopers. Just the same as last year, They have not painted the gents toilets yet! THE IDEAL LOCATION for walking in the Dark Peak. Pub food at the Nags & Rambler has got more expensive but camp fees at Coopers is still the same (value for money). Friday, cold night. Saturday, dull & rain early evening. Sunday, brilliant sunshine & 30+ MPH winds tents going down all over the place (but the owners can't be blamed for that). Perfect location if you don't want frills & disco's. 2 adults, 2 tents, 1 car = £15/night Bargain!

We stayed on Coopers camp site weekend of 22nd Feb and although the ground had taken a battering with recent rain, the fields were soft but dry.
The warden greeted us and asked that we did not drive the car on the grass - which was perfectly understandable. And gave us the option to pitch wherever we pleased.
The facilities were clean and tidy, showers, toilets and dish washing area.
There was a shop just off site (post office) and a cafe which was very reasonably priced.
We paid £13 for 1 night, small tent, car and 2 adults.
We walked 50 meters from the tent and we were in the local pub, the nags head - which is a superb country village pub serving decent ales, one was there own - Nags 1577
Just down the road is another pub called the Ramblers in which was more modern and more lively.
The site itself is right at the start of the Pennine Way, if you enjoy a walk, follow the path up Jacobs Ladder and on to the highest peak - Kinder Scout
Be prepared though, it's very windy up there!
