You get what you pay for and this site is cheap. I don't understand previous reviews that have said the toilet block was clean because when we were there it was hideous. I have done a lot of camping but have never felt the need to wear my flip flops while showering before. I also did not want to put my toothbrush on the sink. Maybe the person who normally cleans them (according to other reviews) was on holiday? I don't mind basic facilities so long as they are clean but these were definitely not clean.
The toilet block was very poorly lit, looks like a botch job, has bizarre drainage systems draining the showers onto the floor. My shower was cold until just before I got out. It was just awful.
The site is very sloping and the grass is long.
The access is not really suitable for a trailer tent - we had to drive at slower than a walking pace to get in and out.
You can access the cinder track that runs from Whitby to Scarborough via Robin Hoods Bay by either going through the 4 x 4 track (the 4x4 people were very friendly by the way) or by going back up the concrete sleeper road, turning left just after the next farm buildings then it's straight down a narrow Tarmac road. The second route is advisable if you are on a bike, although its a steep climb back up.
I'm sure this site is just what some people are looking for (cheap and basic) but unfortunately both I and my partner would not return, and despite the nice weather we left a day early.

I booked this campsite for several of us and we had a really brilliant time, even the weather perked up for us and the views were amazing.
The campsite is on a farm so has really big fields, lots of room for our large-ish tents and cars; we could pitch were we wanted which was great for our party and made the weekend really relaxing from the start. Nice too were the plain and simple directions meant no one got lost.
The owner was really helpful and explained the best ways into Robin Hood's Bay, the pubs there and gave us a taxi card so we could be back ok, if it was late.
The showers / toilets have lots of room, are clean and a nice surprise from other sites as they are like private bathrooms (so you can keep all your stuff with you), shower, change without other people standing on your things ! Plus there was loads of hot water !
We had been told there was an off-road club camping too, but to be honest we didn't really notice them and the site was still really peaceful and quiet at night - so good sleeps.
Robin Hood's Bay village is really pretty with plenty of ice cream shops (and a van on the beach too !) ; the beach is big surprise as its really sandy and sheltered from the sea breezes - so no ice cream blown in the your face!
On the dates we stayed the weather was so unexpectedly good that we were able to pay / stay for another night.
We'd definitely stay again, as its off the beaten track, good price and a really nice place for anyone who just wants to forget the world and have a great time.

I've spent three nights at Bayness Farm, and whilst I've enjoyed it, previous reviewers' statements of 'forewarned is forearmed is a fair point'.
The site itself is a fantastic viewpoint, overlooking Robin Hood's Bay with fantastic views over to Ravenscar and even as distant as the far side of Scarborough Bay.
Pitches unfortunately are sloping and exposed - long grass on the site didn't help either - but if you're able to tuck yourself in the top corner by the ridge you'll have some cover - a windbreak helps!
Facilities are basic but functional - washing facilities, water and showers are free, with the latter forming part of a unisex wetroom set up. There are also separate WCs with sinks should you just need to freshen up. Being in a farm building the washing facilities aren't the most salubrious but they'll do fine for the majority of people.
Getting to the farm by car is a five minute drive off the main road between Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby - look out for the white and green 'Off Road Centre' signs as that's all the indication you'll get! You can easily walk down to Baytown itself on the Cinder Track path that passes below the site - access to the path is a bit tricky, either through the farm fields or round the back of the 4x4 track but either way it's a quick route. You can also walk to Whitby on the Cinder Track, it's 6 miles but a steady gradient and comfortably achievable for most people.
The nearest pub is the Grosvenor Hotel at the top of the Bay - about 30 minute's walk. There's shops and off licences in the Bay and the world's best chippy at the bottom of the hill round the back of the slip way. Otherwise Whitby is a 15 minute drive, Scarborough 30 minutes and the Esk Valley and Heartbeat Country a little further out.
The site is a no-frills, functional set up with a laid back feel. You'll not have to worry about noise - apart from the off roaders - and big groups are welcome. Bring plenty of warm clothing and bedding, ready yourself for the wind and you'll be fine.

Well the road to the campsite was to say the least a little bumpy, once on site Mike told us we could camp any where and told us the do's and dont's.
The Showers/Toilets/Washing up area are all unisex, the showers are free, but you either had to get there early or late to have hot water.
We pitched in the bottom field over looking the sea, fantastic views, but if it's windy watch out ! A nice walk into Robin Hoods Bay following the Cinder Track, which you had to walk through a 4x4 track, which is very unsteady on the feet.
At the top of Robin Hoods Bay this is where you will find the local shop which sells everything you need, great little shop
Whitby is about 20mins drive away.
All in All this site is basic site for the money you pay!, we would return if the sun is shinning all the time

This was my first time camping as an adult and I can honestly say it was a fantastic choice, the views were breathtaking despite the rain, as the other reviews say it was windy but only at night and not unbearable - even to me who turned up in a bright pink coat and matching wellies and a full suitcase of clothes and make up! The shower block had everything you would expect (except a plug for hair straighteners!) but the other campers with hook ups were more than obliging with their sockets! The owner was very friendly and pointed us in the direction of the bay - and strongly advised against heels! The view on the way down was lovely and the 4x4s were entertaining, the walk up however was quite strenuous but made bearable again by the lovely views, I will definitely be returning in the summer.
Only 1 negative and that was the lack of signposting to the site, the farmers son in the next field was more than happy to redirect us though!

SUPERB. Forewarned is forearmed. Looking forward to going back but two thongs I will be aware of next time:
I)3 fields on a gentle slope to pitch in. Pitch up in the top ones if the forecast is wind (I nearly ended up in the land of Oz while everyone else was still in kansas).
Ii )free hot water and clean facilities (take a hand towel when going to the loo-only thing missing. Unbeatable views.
If you're wanting a 'glamping' site go somewhere else and pay for it, this is a campsite with adequate facilities for me and my tent I paid £7 a night.
Already looking forward to going back in Spring. The views were stunning, the walk into RHB was ok (but I was wearing walking boots, you'll never do it in flip flops.)

Really enjoyed my stay on this campsite! Lovely views. Facilities are basic but enough for what you need for a couple of days camping. Walked into Robin Hoods bay from here, took about 25 mins, first part of the walk is a bit tricky but you soon end up on flat ground. Bit of a steep walk coming back up the tricky bit but walk was well worth it with gorgeous views along the way. Was windy on the second day we were there, and there's no shelter but it wasn't a major problem. Site also had a 4x4 off road centre on it, enjoyed watching the 4x4's on the hillside. Will definitely be back to visit soon!

Well the view is spectacular overlooking Robin Hoods Bay.
This site is what it is. I totally enjoyed the weekend we spent there but can honestly say it wouldn't be for every one.
Getting to the farm was a bit daunting to say the least - we unhitched the van in one hell of a storm and drove the last couple of miles along the dreaded concrete track to see if we were in the right place! The warden was very helpful so we got there in one piece! Facilities are basic as the showers are a converted cow barn, they did the job though! As a last minute booking it was fine.

Lovely site with fantastic views. Arrived on a calm afternoon and set up camp. Unfortunately the wind started blowing overnight with driving rain and no sleep for me! Had booked to stay two nights but left the second evening as the wind was still wild, despite being sunny and there is no shelter. We still really enjoyed it though and would definitely go back - just need to check the forecast 1st. Walked into RHB but took longer than 20 mins and the 1st bit out of the farm is very rugged and steep but then flat lovely walk. Got a taxi back from RHB jetty to campsite for a very reasonable £7! Local Taxi driver didn't realise there was a camping place - probably a sign there needs to be a bit more signage! Facilities basic but adequate and reasonably clean. Is a wet room set up so would def take flip flops. No playground for kids but plenty of space to kick a ball about.

What a site. Cracking location facilities basic but clean and good and plenty to go round didn't have to wait at all.
Watch sat nav as it will take you to the wrong place and my van did not like climbing back up the hill. Follow the signs for the 4x4 school. Entry to the site is a bit hairy in a old VW Camper but we made it.
Really relaxing 2 days nice and quiet and the views are amazing.
Didn't see the owner and you can only book on line.
A long walk down to the bay but well worth it the seafood shop is worth a look at and the pubs are lovely nice pint in ye old dolphin.
The walk back up is hard but fun
Will definitely return.
