The views are amazing across to Robin Hood's Bay and out to sea. Sitting in the morning watching the fishing boats was idyllic. There is a steep walk from the campsite down to the village.
The road is signed from the B road and through the first farm. It is a narrow, bumpy lane with few passing places. Which was made more interesting when some sheep had got out of their field and a pheasant decided to make a dash for it!
There are not many flat pitches on the site. The shower/toilet facilities were clean but, as they were always damp, they did smell. Some showers were better than others. There was always hot water for the showers and washing up.
We enjoyed our 2 nights stay, it is a good base to explore Whitby and the coast.

Great site. Clean toilets/showers. Washing up facilities. Good walk down to Robin Hoods bay (steep track from site). Found the owner very helpful. Would definitely go again
Be careful of road leading into site. Made up of concrete sleepers. Not good for your suspension
But a definite 9/10
Thanks Mike

The owners are so friendly and helpful, showed us the way to Robinhoods Bay. Bout 20 min walk
The views are to die for! Amazing waking up to the beautiful blue sea and sunshine. Each toilet has a wash basin and shower. Never had a problem getting a toilet
Would definitely recommend and return ourselves it was perfect for our 3 night stay

The access road to this site was very narrow and long with not many passing points, also when you get passed the first farm this changed to a bumpy concrete sleeper road which was uncomfortable in my small car! The site itself was good and the owner friendly enough.
The views were stunning. Some of the pitches were on slopes but some sloped more than others.
The toilet and shower block were OK and clean enough but one shower, that I used, the water just trickled out then the next time I used a different one it was like a power shower! We stayed for 2 nights which was long enough.
Ideal for visiting Whitby and surrounding areas the only problem was the road leading to it, I feel if the site was busier it would have been a nightmare trying to pass the other cars.

Just spent 5 nights at Bay Ness Farm with my 13 year old son. This is the longest trip we've done, we usually only do 2/3 nights but so glad we spent longer here. The camp site is basic but clean and no problems with hot water (other places I've been to charge 20p for showers and hot water for washing pots!). The site has beautiful views, quite stunning, even my son was impressed and quite often just stood there taking it all in. He enjoyed watching the big ships in the distance. The field is quite exposed so advice would be to make sure your tent can withstand strong winds. I did make the mistake of trying to set up when the tail end of hurricane Bertha hit! My own fault but glad we stuck it out!
The site is well situated for local attractions. The walk down to Robin Hoods Bay was about 20 mins. The Bay was very picturesque but it was very steep getting down to the beach. My son enjoyed spending time crabbing in the rock pools.
It was a short drive into Whitby where there was lots going on and again very picturesque.
We also spent a day hiring bikes and following the cinder track which was the old railway line. This was a lot of fun and the views around the coast were stunning.

Would not recommend this site to anyone, hard to find even with owners sketchy directions. Access lane was van width very long with no passing places. Site very uneven and sloping a lot. Grass long and dead grass lying on top. No views from electric hook up field. The so called shower block was very dark and very dirty.
This is the most expensive site of its type we have stayed on and to add insult to injury it costs £2 per dog per night. No direct path to Robin Hoods Bay it's quite a trek. All in all not a good place.

I stayed here with my fiancé and dog last year and loved every second of the 6 or so days here. The views are simply amazing, you can watch the ships and fishing boats and even get to watch military aircraft training on the horizon. We've stayed at many places in the uk but this was the best especially for the scenery, wildlife and facilities! You can go for a pint (or 10) in just a 25 min scenic walk to robin hoods bay. We met so many nice people here and it is so dog friendly! The owner was fantastic and we always had a chat, he was always busy picking up the smallest piece of litter and seen sorting peoples recyclable waste. When we were there he was busy mowing on a small tractor then he decided to get the neighbours big tractor to do the job but let us know in advance. Iam quite shocked at people who may leave a negative remark about this place, to be fair they might be the grumpy people that people wouldn't want to speak to anyway! If thy want luxury they should stop pretending to be campers and put their hand in their pocket and get a flight to the Maldives. To be fair the land isn't complete flat everywhere but everyone who was there when we were there pitched on a flat plot! The showers are very clean an tidy and lights on all the time at night, water was always hot and to me it was perfect! We will be back! The lane is only bumpy if you drive like a maniac, but it is concrete all the way to the farm. Take it steady and take in the views and wildlife and it will only take 2 mins longer and you won't have a problem at this place. Enjoy it! Were in out 20's and this place will be as enjoyable as you want it to be, you won't be disappointed!

We have just returned from a week camping at Bay Ness farm and loved the place. The farmer and his wife were helpful and friendly. The toilets and showers were clean and we had no problems with hot water. The views were stunning. The walk down into Baytown was quite a trek and back up hill to the campsite was steep (for our old bones).
There was always plenty of room even at the camps busiest and there was a general feeling of peace and quiet, relaxed back to basics family camping.

The location of the campsite gives it absolutely stunning views and it's very peaceful, provided the weather is too. The site is very exposed and we had a couple of very windy nights and had to do some emergency repairs on the tent as we discovered a small rip from last year and it didn't withstand the wind. When the weather died down though you can really appreciate the area. Be prepared for high winds for both the tent and you - extra tent pegs and earplugs are a must!
The campsite facilities are basic but well kept and cleaned daily. Our first morning was a Sunday and being lazy we got to the showers a bit late - the hot water seemed to have run out by 11am, but it was back on a bit later. The water pressure in the showers is weak but they do the job.
Bayness is in a handy location for getting Robin Hood's Bay, around a 25 minute walk down the lovely Cinder Track, and is also connected to the Cleveland Way for a very scenic coastal walk to Whitby around 6-7 miles.
The owners were friendly and left us to it. We emailed in advance to book but received no reply and were told on arrival that normally they don't take unbooked parties (even though we tried!) but they had space for us so this wasn't a problem in the end. It would be useful if there was a phone number for contacting the site.

Really not the best. The main thing about this site is that the views are lovely and the walk to Robin Hoods Bay quite easy. However the fields are sloping and not too easy to get level. The facilities are really unclean and oppressive. The grass was long and the old cuttings had not been collected. Walking in bare feet or even sandals left you exposed to the nettles.
The owner said he had 500 campers on once. With just 4 loos it could have been a challenge. The site is certainly untidy and piles of stuff littered the place. The booking process is tortuous and you have to pay up front. Had we not have paid we would have moved on. The track to the site is a very long single track with only one passing place for caravans, so do not arrive early!
Interesting that an analysis of the reviews, especially the recent one's, are positive about the site. They are consistent and say how nice the owner is (agreed) lots of hot water (not when we were there) and clean facilities ! Maybe they would not withstand forensic scrutiny. Could be so much better.
