We've just stayed at this campsite for the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The location is absolutely stunning and deserves a 10/10. You are surrounded by wonderful sea views and it being at the end of a farm track means that it is lovely and quiet.
It takes about 20 minutes to walk into Robin Hood's Bay and apart from the first steep hill you, that you have to get down (or on your way back up) to the old railway track it is easy and level.
I do have to say however that the toilet and shower facilities were poor. There are only four uni-sex toilets, three of which also have a shower in the same room. Therefore, the queues in the morning were very long. Even at 8.00 am you had to face a half hour wait for the showers and a 10-15 minute wait for the toilet at times. As a result of so many people using these few facilities, they weren't very clean either and at times there was no toilet paper left in any of the toilets.
I'm sure that at other times of the year when it is less busy, the situation is better, but then again they shouldn't let that many people on, if it leads to those problems.

Just come back from a weekend here & found it to be really nice. The owner was very helpful. The site is sloping and can be quite windy, but it is all worth it for the fantastic views. The showers & the toilets are in the same units so it is advisable to take a plastic bag with things in to stop them getting wet whilst using the shower. There can also be quite a queue in the morning / early evening as the 4 showers / toilets serve the whole site. The approach to the farm is quite narrow and has few passing places. Overall it is a place I would go with my family again.

Very nice, fairly basic site but with all the essential amenities. There were 4 unisex showers, with toilets in the same rooms. Therefore it could be a bit tricky in the morning if you're desperate for the toilet and there are 4 people in the showers! However, it does mean that the showers are nice and roomy. The showers were hot and included in the camping price, however, the ventilation isn't great so there is a rather strong mildewy smell. Washing up facilities are in the same building as the showers/toilets - again more than adequate, with sinks, drainers and free hot water. Prices are £5 for the 1st person and £2 per person, thereafter (in the same tent) - car etc included. The views are great, however, the site is EXTREMELY windy. Fine on a nice day, but when the sun goes in it can get quite chilly. We positioned the cars against the wind and purchased a windbreak from Whitby which eased the problem slightly. It's also very noisy at night if you have a "flappy" tent! The road/track on the way in is "interesting" but passable. The farmer's in the process of laying concrete sleepers, but I'm not sure if this is better or worse - it gets less muddy but more bumpy! We were a group or 10 (five couples). They were a bit funny about groups and only accept pre-bookings, however, I managed to persuade them by email that we were nice and weren't going to make a lot of noise. I think it helped that we went on a weekend when the 4x4 people were having an event, so they were less stringent on their no groups rule. The 4x4 people weren't a problem, there were a few noisier ones (but they weren't near us) and a few 4x4s driving around the site in circles (not quite sure why!). On the Sunday we had to be a bit careful walking to Robin Hoods Bay as the route goes through the 4x4 track / course. However, it's quite obvious which bit they're doing as there's a load of people standing around!

A nice site. But watch for the wind - if it's coming from the north east, there's very little shelter! We've stayed a couple of different week ends, owner is very friendly, he will bring a large metal pan around, with the tractor, so you can have a bonfire if you want. Rates were £10 a night, and no problem with having two largish dogs. Track to site is a little long and narrow - but quite open so you can see a fair way ahead, luckily we never met anyone else while towing the trailer! Also very noisy - thousands of old concrete sleepers, they do rattle as you drive over them. Toilet facilities were adequate for our needs - there is about 6 combined shower/toilet cubicles one of which was toilet only. Several rubbish bins to allow for recycling. Short drive (or long walk) to Robin Hood's Bay - really nice old village (best to park in old station car park - the others fill up quickly, and visitors can't drive down to the bottom of the village) Quite a steep walk down to the village (stepped), but well worth the effort. We'll probably go again sometime

Great little site to get away from it all with excellent views out to sea. Showers were clean and warm. But thought £15 pound a night was bit steep for 2 adults & 1child on whats basically just a very basic C.L. & the owner could at least get all grass cutting off the field after he has cut it

September 2005 Bay ness is ideal for those people who want to be away from it all. The site consists of a few sloping fields with a good view on 3 sides. The downside for this view is the fact that you do feel like you are in the middle of nowhere (about a mile to the main road) and being on the top of a hill you can certainly feel the wind.
The campsite is approached down a (narrow in places) single-track lane with fences and high bushes on each side, the lane is windy and it is bumpy, occasionally very bumpy, with very few passing places, this lasts for about a mile.
Each toilet is located in the same tiled room as the shower, this is ideal if you like wet toilets and toilet paper. The toilets and showers are clean and basic.
We found Mike (the owner) to be pleasant and very helpful although in our experience this could not be said of his wife.
Whilst we were staying their in September we shared a sloping field with 2 males & 1 female (17-18 year olds) in one tent and 3 males sharing one tent, they had a campfire at night, this did not bother us, but it may bother some people.
I would think this campsite would suit you if you don’t mind a basic, unfinished, windy campsite with good views, maybe not ideal for families!

October 2004 Great no frills site.Fantastic views out to sea but can get cold when the sea mists come in at dusk! Wet rooms and toilets clean and tidy. A nice walk down into the beautiful Robin Hood's bay but but bit of a steep walk back! Our first attempt at camping and the two chidren (4 and 6 ) and ourselves loved it. Highly recommended!

June 2005 We really enjoyed our stay here. The views are beautiful and the facilities are good. The new showerblocks (with large tiled rooms containing shower basin and toilet) were clean and pleasant.
The weather is extemely changeable but we found that any mist/ storm passed quickly and the weather was often very different inland.
The road leading to the campsite is very uneven and it can get windy, but the owners were friendly and it was worth it for the spectacular views down to Robin Hood's Bay. We would definitely return.

August 2005 My wife and I stayed in our caravan at Bay Ness Farm, Robin Hoods Bay for a week beginning Easter Monday(2005).
The site is situated above Robin Hoods Bay. When the weather is clear the views of the sea are STUPENDOUS - that is what tempted us on reading the reviews. It was VERY foggy for the first part of our stay and we only realised the see was so close when the weather cleared on day 4.
The farm is approached along a very long lane, partly surfaced. The site is a prettty basic one and consists of several reasonably drained farm fields, some sloping. It was quite an exposed position and could be windy. The toilet and shower block are clean and new and there are some electric hook ups, water points and a waste disposal point. That's about all the facilities and there's no playground or kids facillities, although I'm sure kids could play on the grass! Our kids, now teenagers and above and too old to accompany us, would have probably been happy there but they were quite good at amusing themselves. The TV reception was, excellent, handy given the weather. It cost us £9.50 per night for the 2 of us, van and electric hook-up. The dog was free. It was okay for us as we prefer sites that are not too organised anyway.
The owners are very friendly and helpful and developing the site so its a bit unfinished in places. We were walked around the facilities and helped to choose our pitch. It was very quiet when we were there just 4 or 5 vans and some coureageous tent campers - probably the weather!!
HBay can be walked to in about half an hourm either along the old railway line (suitable for bikes too) or along the coastal path along the cliff top. It's a stiff hill down/up to these paths though. Whitby is just a few minutes drive away. We, also, visited Goathland, location for TV's "Heartbeat" and the North York Moors Railway.

August 2004 Excelent site it is quiet and peaceful, the owners are extremely friendly and very helpful , we have never had views like this even at camping and caravan club sites. As the moon sets it lights up the ocean and if your up you can see the sun rise up from the comfort of your own pitch. The sea is on all three sides of the camp site, is also very cheap, cost us £60 for the week that's 2 adults 2 children and a dog!!!! Well worth the visit you can't afford to miss this site.
