We have just got back from a weeks stay after we had booked on the back of reading some of these reviews. We weren't disappointed (apart from the poor weather - be warned it can get very windy there!), the site was very well maintained. Despite being fully booked the toilet/shower block was never full and was spotless all the time. The shop was adequately stocked and the bar served good valued bar food if you didn't want to cook.
The pool area was nice and clean with great views.
This is a good site to use to explore the great Cornwall country side and beaches.
My only gripe would be that we stayed on Consol area [pitch 52] which was a bit of a squeeze with our Outwell Montana 6 tent.

Quite simply - 5 stars fully deserved!
We spent a week in July and did not have fantastic weather but the campsite facilities helped combat otherwise poor weather days.
The showers/toilet/washup facilities where spotless 100% of the time which was impressive given the site was full all week (the same cannot be said for some fellow campers however who, despite the site providing cloths to clean up sink areas after shaving etc seemed to prefer to leave it for others to clean. C'mon folks, have some consideration!)
It is however quite a windy site and we did struggle to get the tent erected easily. We were up at the top (Morvah I think), and once we did get the tent up we were rewarded with great sea views.
The pool is fab, with changing rooms and being heated allowed us to go in even in the drizzly rain (great fun!)
Liked the on site pub which was a nice change from the dreary social club type facilities often experinced on such sites. Food good, very reasonably priced and if a real ale fan some good beers - Betty Stoggs, excellent! Some of the entertainment was a bit cheesy but something to suite all tastes from bingo to clubland type singers with backing tapes to an excellent folk/rock guitarist/singer.
The bus service from the site was brillant allowing you to venture into St. Ives daily without the hassle of parking up and get a last bus back at 11:00pm. There is also a nice walk into town that takes about 20 minutes.
We have been coming to St. Ives for 7 years and still haven't tried a fraction of the great eateries - try the burger bar Blas, just down past the lifeboat station towards the railway station - superb! Onshore was also good for families; for couples we highly recommend Alfresco. Both these are right on the front with lovely views across the harbour.
We normally finish a review with downsides but Polmanter simply hasn't got any. Look forward to visiting again!

This really is a great site as you can tell from all of the reviews already submitted. The pitches all seemed great and you can check them out on line before booking. We had 152 which was huge and had a sea view! We took two teenage sons aged 13 and 15 and were slightly apprehensive but needn't have been. They loved the swimming pool which never seemed overcrowded despite the site being full. The showers were lovely with plenty of hot water and rarely queues. The walk off the site into St Ives was great and we chose to go down most evenings for dinner (or just fish and chips on the beach!), although we did tend to get the bus back up which was very popular! (we caught the taxi a couple of times too!) My favourite beach was Gwithian just outside Hayle with huge waves for the kids, great rock pools and stunning views! The weather was typically British but this did not seem to detract from this being a very relaxing holiday. The Badger on the way to Carbis Bay did great lunch time meals, The Balnoon inn did a great carvery (but book as it was very popular) The Rajpoot indian just by the bus stop was very lovely and the Crepes in the harbour were a real treat! Quite a few have complained about the wind! It is at the top of a hill, and quite exposed, it seems to catch the morning drizzle, but it is a fab site and once you get down into St ives the weather and temperature change quite a bit! My boys loved this site and St Ives and it will be one on our list to go back to in the future. Well done Polmanter keep up the good work. ( All of the staff were helpful there is lots of information, the croissants from the shop are great, and the couple that run the shop are very lovely!) But the thing we loved most were the family of seals who come into the harbour regularly following in the fishing boats, they are really friendly and just play around in the water whilst being photographed etc! Great holiday (just wish the weather had been a bit better!)

We spent a very wet week on this fab site at the end of July. However, even though it rained A LOT the muliserviced pitch was well drained and not at all soggy. We had plenty of room for the 'van, awning and a badminton net, which kept us amused!
My kids loved the play areas and the swimming pool ( we supervised from inside the warm and dry conservatory! )and we all enjoyed the pub, especially the bingo evenings and the kids disco night. We also had a good meal at the pub, and although it's not cheap, we felt the food was reasonably priced.
The toilets and showers were always clean and tidy and we never had to wait. The shop sells the basics but there's a Tesco about 10 minutes away if they don't have what you want.
We loved this site, so much so that we have already booked to go back next summer for 2 weeks. It's not the cheapest place you'll find but we felt that it represented great value for money and was well placed to explore southern Cornwall.

Very nice site, clean showers and toilet blocks, great walk into St Ives through country lanes, choose your pitch carefully as it gets very windy, the wind snapped on of my mates fibre glass poles, and when it rains it really does rain. We didn't use the restaurant or the take-away as the prices were high for the standard of food. Kids playground was basic and the grass is too long to use the putting greens. The park is so high up in the clouds that you can drive 4 miles down the hill and the weather is totally different, would not use again as the weather is so changeable fine for caravans but don't forget your wellies and earplugs if you are in a tent.

Just got back from here,we first went last year and stayed in my parents awning and fell in love with the place and booked for this year.
We were in a tent this year and got a cancellation so ended up on a fully serviced pitch it was fantastic. We had some terrible weather windy raining but the heated pool was still well used, the shower blocks are fantastic clean and plenty of room and we never had to wait the pub was well run the food was good both on quality and price.
The site is well kept all the pitches are well cut and have plenty of room.
The bus into st ives is a god send although there is a foot path down which takes about 25mins to walk down. There is only one place I would advise you to stay away from and that crealys Cornwall near newquay if you look at the brochure and website it looks great but when you get there it cost £52 for family of 4 and there is nothing to do 2 log flumes a pirate ship and a tower blaster and a couple of slides a total rip off.We stayed for 1 hour and struggled to fill that.Flambards is much better and cheaper.
All in all it is a fantastic site the staff are lovely we had a fantastic time and we have booked again for next year.

Just got back from this fabulous site. Had a very typical 'English summer' week (ie, pouring with rain one minute, sunshine the next).
The site itself is perfect, lovely large well drained pitches with abundant clean (even though the site was full) shower/wash blocks and a great heated pool.
The on site bar is very well maintained and never seemed crowded although I would agree with previous posts in that the food is standard 'pup grub' in terms of both quality and price.
The only very minor problem we encountered was in the bar with the 'cuddly toy crane machine'
This machine is sooo tempting to youger children and it seemed as though the management know this. The machine is the worst type (ie. Almost impossible to win, even drops the toy when the claw reaches the top) and seems to me to be a little greedy for a family site (I've seen similar machines where a win is assured for say, a pound a go)
The town itself is beautiful and is a doddle to get to via the hourly bus service or a very pleasant path. There does seem to be a bit of a 'bus war' going on though with rival bus companies running the same route within minutes of one another, one costing a pound per person, the other completely free.
All in all I have to say that is the best site we have used coupled with fact the fact that the town itself ticks all of our Cornwall boxes, we will definitely be back.

We were on Morvah pitch 225 but it certainly wasn't one of the better pitches, it (as many others have said) was very windy and there were quite a lot of stones under the grass which resulted in a lot of bent tent pegs. Our wind-break kept blowing down in the strong winds.
However, the pitch was very level and pretty spacious. You neighbours are quite close as the pitches are in square terraces and everyone spreads out to the edge of their own terraced pitch. Many of the central site pitches are separated by small hedges which may have been better.
When we arrived we wanted to have a late lunch in the on site bar but were told they stopped serving at 2pm although it said outside they served until 2.30pm.
We found the charge of £1deposit and 50p per frozen ice pack rather expensive. The site shop had most things you would need. We didn't use the swimming pool but it looked quite a decent pool.
The site was quiet'ish, even though it was very busy but like most campsites there is always someone spoiling it for others. The showers were quite modern and very clean. They were never busy. Hot water was plentiful and free.
The car number plate recognition system which operates the site barrier never seemed to work for us - we had to ask for the pin pad number instead.
The site isn't far from St.Ives which is very nice and comes alive in the evening with people eating, drinking and just strolling about. There are three nice beaches.
The Rajpoot Indian restaurant opposite where the bus drops you off provides very nice meals at reasonable prices. Highly recommended.
There is a reasonable size Tesco in St. Ives.
We were VERY disappointed with Tate St. Ives - it wasn't worth the money.
There are some pubs a short drive from Polmanter but we didn't find any of them to be especially good (every one of them seemed to offer cheap Carvery meals as being the 'norm').
Polmanter was pleasant. The best thing was the showers. I wouldn't especially want to stay there again though as it wasn't cheap.
Penzance is only 20min drive from Polmanter and you can take the boat or helicopter to The Isles of Scilly from there.

This was our second visit to this site.
Absolutely gorgeous totally deserves its five stars, pitches are fantastic and well maintained. Toilet and shower blocks are really clean and lovely.
The staff are really friendly and helpful and the little shop on site is just enough for little bits and bobs, and the freshly baked pan o chocolat and croisants in the morning are divine!
Site views are lovely and the walk down into St Ives is too, although we always got the bus back as it is a bit of an uphill trek.
The pool on site is nice and there is a little park area for the kids which is good as well.
The only thing is that it can get a little windy of a night time and that's the only negative thing that I can say about the place.
We have a little Jack Russell and we found that on one of the nights that it rained and we didn't want to sit in out tent we were allowed to take him into the conservatory area and have a few drinks which was good and also nice and warm!
Cant wait to go back next year!

Very well kept site with sea views just outside St Ives.
Reasonable price, with very good well drained pitches, of a good size separated by hedges. We were on a multi service pitch with mains water drainage and full TV point.
This site has a really nice bar which does fairly standard pub grub at a fair price.
It has an adequate shop again reasonably priced.
The outdoor pool looked great but the weather was too rough to use it.
Even though it rained and rained the pitches did not get soggy and we remained dry in the awning.
There is a superb bus service into St Ives running roughly on the hour ant a cost of £1 per adult and 50p per child, this was well used as parking in town is a swine.
The toilet blocks were spotless and never overcrowded despite the site being full.
This is a site that fully deserves its 5 star rating and we will be back (hopefully with better weather).
