Just back from a week at Polmanter, what a lovely site! The park, although large does not feel it as individual pitches are large and divided by hedges for privacy. The whole park is very well kept.
Wahrooms and toilets spotless. The clubhouse is a very pleasant place to meet up with friends and make new ones. The food was very good although a little expensive.
The bus to st. Ives from the site is an excellent idea, especially for us being in a large motorhome. The pool looked lovely but didn't actually see anyone use it as the weather was too cold for outdoor pool. Wish they would put a roof on it then we could have all used it.
The site being high up, was very windy but St Ives always seemed warm and sheltered. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit (our second year) definitely be back.

My view hasn't changed since my review in 2011. Wonderful site and I can't think of anywhere I would rather camp in Cornwall now. The weather was hideous the two weeks we were there but there's not much the site can do about that.
I sincerely hope that anyone following us in the next few weeks gets a good turn in the weather.
Don't be deterred though, there's always plenty to do minus the sunshine.

Like others have said, this is probably one of the best sites I have ever been to. I usually go for quite basic sites and am happy if there are clean shower/toilet blocks, but I wish I could pick this site up and drop it in several other locations.
The site is immaculate, fantastic size pitches with hedging to separate them, so people will never be crammed in. We were there when the rain and floods were bashing the area, yet the pitch didn't become waterlogged. We had a fully serviced pitch, well worth the small amount extra it added to the cost of the stay. TV plugged straight into the ariel and perfect picture. Not that we actually watched much TV, despite the bad weather.
The bathrooms were the best I have ever used on a campsite. There are 3 shower blocks and I didn't see more than 2 cubicles being used in any of the blocks I used. It probably helps that there are baby rooms and family shower rooms in addition to the 4 or 5 single shower cubicles in each block. The floors were always pristine, no mud was brought in from outside because of the way the blocks are laid out with a long entrance corridor with the shower/changing rooms off this main corridor.
I had tried to get on a different site that was allegedly in St Ives itself. I am glad I didn't. There is a bus to and from Polmanter every half hour up to 7 - 7. 20pm. St Ives is literally 5 minutes on the bus and a 20 minute walk. There are 2 paths from the campsite to St Ives, we took the muddy field route twice (we had very heavy rain) before we realised the best path to take was at the back of the site. A taxi from St Ives, if you want to come back after the 7. 20 bus costs £6. 20. If catching the bus back ignore the timetable that says it leaves St Ives at 20 past or 10 to because you will miss it. Be there a couple of minutes early.
We ate in the site restaurant/ bar one night and the food was really good (though the banoffe pie was never properly defrosted, sounds picky but that's how tiny the faults are here)! This is a very family friendly site, something I usually avoid as we're a couple with no children. Here though it didn't matter, it was a peaceful site that I will return to again and again. Shame it's so far away.

Fantastic site. Stayed at the end of June and the weather was horrible - gale force winds and rain. Previous reviews had mentioned that it can get windy here but I don't think we were prepared for just how windy it gets - at one point we thought there was a poltergeist in our tent! Fortunately we have steel poles so the tent stood firm but some had to leave early with tent damage!
Despite the weather we still had a fantastic time here - the facilities are second to none - various toilet/shower blocks - all first class. The pitches are huge with small hedges separating most and the grass and grounds well maintained. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, pitch and put and a small children's play area. The bar is fantastic with a huge conservatory attached which overlooks the swimming pool area, and serves good value meals and also offers a takeaway service. There is a site shop selling all the basic food stuff and more. You can walk into St. Ives from the site and there is also a regular bus service that runs from the site to the town centre.
We loved the site and St. Ives and met some really nice people - you've probably gathered - we can't wait to go back.

This campsite was fantastic. Very dog friendly allowing our dog to eat in the conservatory with us. The children loved the heated pool and despite the awful weather (gale force winds and heavy rain) managed a dip or two. We had to abandon ship on the last day because of the weather - no fault of the site.
More about the site - well laid out, very clean, warm showers that you do not have to pay extra for, helpful staff, pitches were of good size and there were hedges for extra privacy, and a good pub and restaurant on site. There is another lovely pub and restaurant very close by for extra variety. There is a lovely (bit slightly hilly ) walk into St Ives. Would love to return to this site.

This is a lovely site in a picturesque and convenient location close to St Ives. It is approx a 30 min downhill walk over fields and down relatively quiet lanes into St Ives.
The staff on site were very friendly, the pitches well laid out and divided by hedges, outdoor swimming pool and large bar/conservatory area which was busy and atmospheric.
We stayed over Whitson week but the facilities seemed to cope with the number of people on site. St Ives itself is gorgeous with it's beautiful, sandy beaches, lanes of lovely shops and lots of good places to eat and of course Tate St Ives.
Both Polmanter and St Ives are thoroughly recommended - would definitely return.

This has to be the best site we have visited. This was our second visit and this time the weather was glorious which made the site even better.
Beautifully clean and well appointed, friendly staff, huge pitches. Chose our pitch in advance using previous knowledge and the website. Toilets and showers are spotless whatever time of day and the pool area is also spotless.
The walk into St Ives is around half and hour and is tough on the way back but there is a bus right to the site. Walk into town in the evening and eat at the Captains Table in the Sloop Inn, the food is amazing, best puds ever.

This is the first time we had visited Polmanter, and we were very impressed with the site! It does get busy very quickly so early booking is advised.
The site offers spectacular views over St Ives Bay, and all pitches are private and generously spaced apart so you are not on top of one another. Pitches are mostly level, and some offering hard standing with full services available per pitch - something we like to try and get!
Site facilities include a nice restaurant in high season, a bar and a takeaway service. Shower blocks are immaculate, which goes with the whole site being very clean.
A bus service to St Ives is also provided in high season, so leaving the car at the site becomes very appealing to save those parking costs in the town!
We were only here for one week but would most definitely stay here again.

Second visit to this site, first was 2010 during the main season and the second visit in September 2011 during the closed season
What a fantastic site clean and tidy and friendly staff. A good base to tour Cornwall
They have a new shower block for this year
From the site you can walk into st ives. The walk will take you about 25min. If you don't like walking up hill then even out of season you can get a bus to the local village
There is a pub in the village, the meals are of a good standard and pets are made welcome
If this campsite was not so far away I would go there more regular

This was our third visit to Polmanter, and I'm afraid we don't think of going elsewhere in Cornwall now. This is rated a 5* site, and it fully deserves the rating. We had 2 weeks, the first was sunny and calm, and the second week Cornwall gave us that grey misty muck that it does so well, as well as the tail end of a hurricane. Being pitched at the top of the site we caught the wind a treat, but with the families having gone home by then to get back to school, there were a few pitches free and we were able to move down the site a bit to a nice sheltered spot for the rest of our stay. Everything on the site is first class - clean, tidy and well organised. The staff are polite and friendly and frankly if you want a better site than this then you'll have to build your own! It's a large site but due to the hedges and different levels it feels a lot smaller, and there are several amenity blocks. The first week of our stay it was packed but only once did I have to queue for a shower - less than two minutes! There is a laundry, plenty of dishwashing areas, recycling bins, playgroung, pool, bar/ restaurant with family area, takeaway, shop, tennis, putting and probably a few other things that I've forgotten (Some of these mentioned are high season only). Pitches are mostly very generous in size. When we first went some years ago it was expensive compared to other sites, but with other sites jacking the rates up Polmanter represents real value. St Ives itself is magical (yes really - the light is like nowhere else on earth) but it does get busy. There is a bus service that runs to and fro (please be patient with the drivers - it's hell to drive round St Ives when it's busy), or the walk into town takes 30 mins. We walked down and bussed back generally, favouring to go into town for brekky and getting the bus back before the town got manic. There is so much to see and do - the Tate in St Ives is either rubbish or wonderful depending on your taste in art, Barbara Hepworths garden is a real oasis of calm, the sea is the most fantastic colour - watch out for seals swimming around the pier, and the beaches are superb. Plenty of pubs. ('Doom Bar' and 'Tribute' are the best beers in the world and are brewed in Cornwall), ice cream, (we rate Kelly's) and more 'award winning' pasties than you can shake a stick at. Go west toward Lands End and visit Geevor Tin Mine and so many villages with cosy pubs - The Radjel in Pendeen even does proper hand cut chips! Visit the headlands, find the secret coves, and go to Sennen on a Sunday morning to watch the weekly Lifeboat practice - whooosh down the slip - big splash - great photos hopefully. And don't forget the cream teas.
