Well - what a find!
Firstly, we love St Ives - the beaches are superb, we had such fun body boarding and lounging on the beaches, the restaurants attached to each of the beaches are really fabulous - probably the best all round food for the family I have ever experienced.
Secondly, we love the campsite. This was our first visit - 2 weeks we stayed for. The staff could not have been more helpful. The bus into St Ives and back was great. There was a great Indian restaurant on the other side of the road from where the site bus stopped - that was delicious. The site itself had fantastic pitches (we went for the all service pitches - made the holiday so easy). The toilets and showers were very very clean - no complaints there. The pool was a bit on the cool side - it is heated and we went in summer but as the site is high up the mist and light rain seemed to build there so the air temperature never felt very warm on the site whereas down in St Ives it was bright sunshine and hot. The weather on the site was not enough to put us off.
This was one of the best holidays we have ever had (and we have had a few) - very relaxing and enjoyable. We will definitely return.

This has been our fourth year at Polmanter and it has never failed to provide a fantastic relaxing holiday.
All facilities are fantastic, and staff are very friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed evening meals in the Stable Bar Restaurant and Conservatory where you can also buy take-away food.
Great value for money and a good varied menu.
The site is exposed so useful to make sure you are pegged down well as it can be windy.
Great walk down to St Ives with a regular bus service and a variety of local beaches to visit.
Pitches are large and well spaced with hedges to unsure privacy.
Only issue's I have is the grass cutting which seems to happen everyday and the 10am leaving time which does no matter how organised you are feels rushed, this can be changed with consultation with management although not during peak times.
I will be returning next year, well done Polmanter.

The good points:
All of the pitches are spacious, and in our case (as I believe most of the others on the site) have hedges at the boundary, increasing privacy.
We had an Outwell Hartford XL, complete with front extension, car and trailer on the pitch, with plenty of room to spare.
Toilet/shower/washing up facilities are amongst the best we have ever experienced. Our closest block (Morvah) was either very new, or had been kept clean to within an inch of it's life. Showers plentiful, and always hot, and fast flowing - yes they are on the timed buttons (press it in and you get water for about twenty-thirty seconds) but that is really not a problem.
The Morvah block also had unisex shower rooms, which are great for small families, as it enables you to take small children in with you and everyone is able to shower and change easily without any really having to keep an eye on them.
Better still are the 'Family Rooms' which are located in the block near to reception. Hugely spacious shower rooms that enables an enitre family to wash, shower, dry and change in complete privacy. A truly excellent feature.
The swimming pool on site is excellent - plenty of sun loungers to enable you to relax whilst children swim in the pool. There is also a very shallow kiddie pool - again, allowing freedom of letting the kids play without as much fear as you may have if they were in the larger pool.
Good changing facilities for the swimming pool too.
On-site pub. Great as far as it goes - gets very busy, with prices comparable to city centre pubs/bars - although my experience (Guinness) was extremely well kept by the cellar staff. Food was typical of pub grub (ie looked absolutely fine) although didn't try it personally.
The shop on site is well stocked, and pretty fairly priced. Nearest supermarket is Tesco or Morrisons in Penzance - which is only about 10-15 minutes if you take the direct route via the 'B' Roads.
Now the not so good points (I won't say bad, as that would be unfair in my opinion)
Site is located at the top of the hill overlooking St Ives Bay, and as such is windy. Whilst the weather during our stay wasn't too windy, some tents took a battering, and some suffered holiday-ending damage. Fortunately, I took Delta Pegs!
Our pitch (on Morvah) was on a slight slope. Not too bad, but enough to disorientate you occasionally.
The pitches had not fared well this summer, and many (ours included) were simply mud rather than grass. We pitched on a dry day, and it rained that evening. And we had a mushy bog under our groundsheet. Nice.
Looking around the site, this seemed to be a fairly common feature on the serviced grass pitches.
The bus service from the site to St Ives is no longer free, but now carries a 'small' charge. A Family of 4 (2+2) would pay £6 to get to St Ives and then back to Polmanter. There is a walk (which we did most days) but it is NOT a footpath. It is across a short field from the site, and then onto country roads, so do watch out for traffic. And it is downhill all the way to St Ives, and uphill all the way back. Definately a good way to wear the children out!
Certainly worth using the bus service or walking, because car parking in St Ives is not easy!
Overall, this is an excellent site, with excellent facilities. But it is charged for accordingly.

I think this is probably the best campsite we have been to. When we visited it was quiet and the shop, bar, pool and camp bus had closed/stopped running for the season. However, that suited us well as we prefer a peaceful atmosphere and I can imagine this site would be VERY busy at peak times. The staff were really helpful with advice, bus times etc.
Our roomy pitch was in Rosewall, fully serviced and with a fantastic view of the sea/moors. The facilities were spotless with private washrooms as well as showers and kept lovely and warm. Plenty of hairdryers too!
There is a very pleasant walk into St Ives which takes about 30-45 mins over fields and along country lanes. It is a steep walk back though so we wimped out and got a taxi (£5) or the hourly bus which drops you at the end of the lane, about 5 mins walk from the camp.
There is a pub close to the campsite although we didn't use it, electing for yummy fish and chips in the town.
We used the motorhome to drive to Lands End and they were fairly good roads but other than that we caught the bus to Penzance from where you can get to most places. There is a lot to see in the area and we would highly recommend Polmanter (out of season if you want to avoid the crush).

My Wife and I had an Excellent week camping, on arrival we were given a warm welcome from the reception staff then given direction to our pitch which we found to be of good size with hedging on three sides to protect us from the wind. All the facilities for washing/showering were excellent, and cleaned every day.
The shop on site was opened twice a day Morning and around Tea time, but they informed us that during peak times it was open all day. Good clean area for pot washing and plenty of taps around the site for cold water.
About a mile down to the beach of St ives with shops bars and narrow streets which is all downhill, very hard work coming back up the hill as it is very steep but you can use the local bus which stops at the campsite.
The site has a pool, and somewhere to eat and drink. The only fault I could find with the site facilities was you had to pay to have your freeze blocks frozen 50p for each one at the shop, we went to the local tesco and bought some ice cube packs which did the job for a couple of days. All in all I would give this camp 9-10, we will be going again.

Just returned from a week at Polmanter. Our pitch was in the unserviced area of Morvah. What is not obvious from the website and/or Google Map satellite picture is that certain pitches are high on a hill (roughly 226 - 232). This exposes them to high winds and prevented us from spending much time outside the tent in the evening. It does however provide a lovely view over the site and across to the sea. Shame it was too windy to fully enjoy.
The site was exceptionally clean and well run. The toilet/shower block at Morvah was the best we've experienced. It's cleaned twice a day, once during the night and once just after lunchtime. The unfortunate thing is that this means the whole block is closed for up to two hours each time. Awkward when you need the loo during the night.
As the block has three sections (Ladies, Gents and Unisex) you'd think they could clean one section at a time, thereby providing a continuous facility, but for some inexplicable reason, they closed the whole block for each cleaning session.
I agree with the review which highlighted the constant grass mowing. Very irritating after a while.
We were there during peak period and so the pitches did not stay vacant long. They could do with being a little more spaced apart as you can hear everything in the tents either side.
That said, this site has to be one of the best we've used. An excellent pool; superb restaurant; more than adequate shop and excellent bar. It is also extremely dog friendly. The bus service into St. Ives and back was very reliable. I would definitely recommend this site to others.

We have just come back from our 5th holiday at Polmanter and yet again 2 adults and three children were very sad to leave such an absolutely superb holiday site. Everything about Polmanter is fantastic and it is a credit to the owners and staff there.
The pitches are of a good size and are separated by hedges to keep it a little private and also to help keep our smaller children within the area of the caravan.
The shower blocks are kept clean at all times, the showers are hot and quite roomy to get changed in and the family bathroom is brilliant as you can shower the children easier as there is more room.
The staff are extremely helpful and polite, nothing is a hassle to them. The shop is well stocked with everyday essentials and the staff are very polite and courteous and have a laugh with the children.
We had a couple of meals at the on site restaurant, the food was very very good and well priced, the steak and ale pie was the best I've ever tasted, big chunks of steak. Same again friendly staff and very comfortable surroundings.
The children's disco / quiz night was a joy to watch and get involved in, the children loved every minute of it as the entertainer (Rod Stewart)got them really involved and made them feel a part of the evening.
Other Facilities like outdoor pool again are perfect, you can tell that Polmanter has been well thought out overs the years of its growth, we have recommended to many friends and relatives. We have met up with other families and have all booked again for the same time again next year, and will continue to do so for many many years to come.
Anyone who is thinking of staying would need to book early as it is a very popular site, you see familiar faces year on year. The best caravan / camping site we have ever been to. Keep up the good work, and again well done to all staff etc. The only downside. Its twelve months before we are back there.

This was my very first camping trip and soon to be one of many! As soon as we got back, we bought a tent and all the usual gear!
This site is amazing. There were 4 adults, 1 child and a dog and we all had a fantastic time. The pitches are great and have hedging around the edges for privacy. Even though this is a 240 pitch site, it feels very small and intimate.
The showers/toilet blocks (of which there were quite a few) were immaculate, especially the private bathrooms. There is even a few electric sockets if you wanted to plug your straighteners in - nice touch for us ladies!
The surrounding countryside is gorgeous and we walked to quite a few local places. You need to drive to the beach, but there are so many to choose from you are spoilt.
The shop on site is great for those little things that you forget to bring with you.
I have visited several sites since returning from here and they do not compare at all. Will definitely be returning again next year but for a week this time!

Polmanter, very nice site, civilised, peaceful, clean, tidy, well maintained & well laid out. Pitch size was excellent with EHU (bear lake 6) liked the small hedges down each side of pitch. Pitch not level, but perfectly acceptable. Lovely gardens around the site. Large clean showers & toilets & lots of them, hot water, good flow, good temperature, some family rooms with shower, toilet, sink and room to move, also could get close to the mirror in these for a shave (yes I'm shortsighted!).
Nice outdoor pool & playgrounds, tennis, table tennis & games room. Bar has fantastic family conservatory which is huge and also decent tables for dining, some entertainment, kids disco, bingo & decent meals available till 22:00. Takeaway 17:30-19:30, also breakfast unsure of times. Shop for everything you could need! closes for lunch, be early for papers. All staff were excellent!
Dog walking area, hourly bus to St Ives & return, stops for long lunch 12:00 - 15:00 cost is ok.
Walk down to St. Ives is very nice, didn't walk back because it's all uphill!
Would definitely recommend, generally nice feeling about the place.
St. Ives a bit limited on dog friendly beaches, but they do exist. Town itself is excellent & you can catch the bus back!

What can I say that hasn't already been said. Spent 9 days at this beautiful site and it did not disappoint. The site is very well run, the staff are excellent, pitches very generous, and toilets immaculate. There is a handy shop, Bar/restaurant, swimming pool and much more. Great site for families of all ages. Best of all there is a bus service from the site down to St Ives, (£1.20, I think) but free to 'ALL' bus pass holders. We had glorious weather for the nine days we stayed, and St Ives is just lovely, a great place for all age groups young or old. Hope that we can go back again some day. The worst thing about it was - leaving it!
