My wife and I stayed at this lovely site at the end of May and we truly would struggle to think of anything bad to say about it. The site was immaculately maintained and the 'staff' were, without doubt, the most welcoming, helpful and friendly people we have ever encountered on any site. The facilities were more than adequate for our needs, and the shop was well stocked with essential items. We were impressed with the recently installed security measures and the, obviously well thought out, range of amenities throughout the site. Abbey Farm is extremely well situated for visits to Southport, Martin Mere, Rufford Old Hall and a host of other interesting places. It is also wonderfully tranquil for those who prefer to 'chill-out'. The site had been highly recommended to us by several people so it had a lot to live up to. We are happy to say the site and the wonderful staff far exceeded our expectations, so a huge "Well Done and Thank You" to Donna, Ann, John and Roy, we look forward to our next visit to Abbey Farm.

We spent a weekend here as a group of six adults and four children aged 2, 3, 6 & 8. Our initial thoughts as we were shown to our pitches were that there was very little space between tents and, as a result, very little privacy. Many campsite's we use insist on a six-metre gap between tents because of fire regs but there was less than six feet between our tents and the next family (who actually apologised to us for being so close). We were also on a very small field with little space for the children to play. Part of our group only arrived on the saturday. The owners were able to fit them in the same field (and we were grateful for this as they didn't confirm they would be coming until the saturday morning) but they had to pitch about fifty yards from the rest of us. There was space next to our tents but as there was no formal pitch there the owners would not let us put a tent there. I can understand this but was surprised that they were not prepared to be more flexible as they don't seem too bothered about cramming people in closer together than they really should (according to fire regs observed on other sites). We like to have a drink and enjoy ourselves in the evening, but not at the expense of others. This was another reason why we were concerned about the close proximity of our neighbours. we go camping between fifteen and twenty weekends a year and we generally have a pretty good idea about what we want from a site. We were not very optimistic about our stay here. However, we had a very pleasant friday evening, the kids entertained themselves in the small tent field on the saturday morning and in the afternoon we took the chairs and an ice box down to the pond to watch the anglers catching roach, feed the geese and have a dip with the fishing nets. One of the owners came to check we weren't fishing for free but he was pleasant enough about it. We then took the chairs and ice box over to the play area where the kids played happily for a couple of hours. The quality of the facilities has been well documented and we can understand why this is the perfect site for some campers. We would have preferred more space between tents and somewhere for the children to play where we could see them from the tents, but we ended up having a very nice weekend and agreeing that we would stay at the site again.

This is a really good site where tents, caravans and motorhomes just blend in rather than a 'them and us' type of setup where it's one field for one, one for another, etc.
We visited in May and the weather wasn't superb but the site wasn't too muddy and everywhere was decidedly clean (the toilets inside the shower cubicle took some getting into) and the games room was a good idea.
The staff/owners were superb - shown onto our site with an 'is this one okay?' rather than 'there you go' and the pitches were a good size with power and plenty of well spaced taps and bins. Also they had good advice on how to get into Ormskirk, especially as their were no buses on Dark Lane - but it's only a short walk and taxis to and from the site aren't too expensive.
Overall this is a damn good, quiet and friendly site and we hope to go back sometime this year.

Just returned from our third visit to Abbey Farm, our first since the new owners have taken over. All I can say is I love this site and no other comes close to being anywhere near as good. Our pitch was great, the grass had been mowed and the ground was fine for pitching the tent. Everybody on site was so friendly, both visitors and staff as soon as we arrived a fellow guest offered to give us a hand putting the tent up. There are a lot of children on the site, three of them being my own, but they are all so well behaved and there was so little noise from them, there was an adventure playground on the rec field that they played on and in fact we hardly saw them. The shower block is immaculate, from what I can remember there are 7 shower cubicles with free hot water each having a small pull down seat in them and a small dressing area, 8 toilets (one was out of order but this proved no inconvenience at all) a bank of sinks and also about 3 or 4 sinks in private cubicles, there was a vanity area so you could dry your hair or put your make up on without taking up too much room. The site was full with it being bank holiday weekend but not once did I ever have to wait for a toilet or shower to become free. There is a small shop on site selling essentials, my husband used it and said it was reasonably priced, half a dozen eggs 85p and a pint of milk 50p. Noisy groups are frowned upon and the group of two tents opposite us were told off several times and then left early on the Sunday as they thought they were going to be asked to leave, having said that I don't think they were overly noisy, just having a good time, but never the less it is good to know that noise at night will not be tolerated. We ventured in to Ormskirk on Saturday which was about ten minutes in the car away, there was a market and the usual shops, but a lovely butchers shop where people queued out of the door and a couple of great fruit and veg shops selling good quality food really cheap, a pack of cherry plum tomatoes containing about 14 fruits, 39p. On Sunday we went to Southport which took us about half an hour to get there. It was murder to park and be warned that the traffic wardens are very vigilant at checking the pay and display tickets. You are issued with an electronic card on arrival which operates a bollard in the ground for access to and from the site. I felt at ease with my three children wondering around and doing their own thing. All in all Abbey Farm is a wonderful site, in fact so fantastic I almost didn't leave a review as I want to keep it quiet . Well done Abbey Farm on being such a great place to stay. We are looking forward to our next visit.

We have just returned from a weekend at Abbey Farm a friend of mine having recommended the site. What a wonderful weekend we experienced. The site was clean, very well set out but the main plus for me was the way that the owners ran things. Everyone was aware of the campsite rules and everyone adhered to these. The site was wonderfully quiet at night and even though many owners had dogs I did not here one bark during the hours of darkness. Obviously the attitude of the owners rubs off and attracts the right sort of clientele. We were a party of four, myself, my wife, a 9 year old girl and a 10 year old boy. My son has autism and was made very welcome by the party of the two caravans next to us. They played “Swingball” with him all weekend and nothing was too much trouble for them. So, if you enjoy partying in your awning until the small hours, rolling out of the club shouting goodnight to everyone you see, having a car door slamming competition, letting your children run riot, leaving your dogs to bark all night and arguing with your partner so all the site can hear, then this site is NOT for you. There are plenty in Lancashire to accommodate you, I know, I’ve been on ‘em ! But not anymore.

This is a little gem of a site. We use this as a base for the fireworks display at nearby southport. Pitches were flat and well kept with lots of bins for rubbish as was neat and tidy. Showers and toilets were kept reasonably clean with the usual mud/grass but they looked relatively new and well kept. Only downside was that if someone was in the shower then no loo!

Fantastic site, very clean toilet and shower facilities. Very good small shop also on site which is always well stocked with essentials. Loads of space to set up and very large play area with field for football, etc. Lake for fishing and a good sized dog walk area. We have been to this site 4 times in the past 3 months and are going back again very shortly! The staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you and they always find time to stop for a chat. There is a pub not too far from the site (approx. 5 mins walk) and Ormskirk town centre is only about 20 mins on foot. We would recommend this site to anyone wanting a relaxing or family holiday. Very happy campers!

Just had a thoroughly enjoyable few days despite the rain! Facilities just what you need. Kids loved the games room, recreation ground and library. Toilet blocks in easy reach wherever you may be and clean at all times. Will definitely stay again even though we only live 15 minutes away. Felt like we were miles from home. Lovely owners, very friendly.

A lovely site which is great for children. All 7 of us had a great time (3 adults, 2 girls of 13, a boy of 8 and girl of 5 years old). The owners are pleasant and friendly. A few minor problems on arrival - we had booked 2 pitches, 1 EHU and 1 non-EHU, but these were not available due to an unavoidable incident on that particular field. This was easily solved when they offered us 2 non-serviced pitches which we gladly accepted. The pitches were fine, clean and even. We had booked 2 large pitches but managed to get the tents onto the regular sized pitches no problem - we rotated our Anglesey round a bit! The best bit about the site is the massive playing field for the children - I took a lot of games, bats and balls, etc. Which kept them amused for hours. There are also swings and a small adventure playground. Towards the entrance to the site is a small play area for toddlers plus a giant Connect 4. The play room is also a great idea - there is a pool table, table tennis and a football table to keep you amused. However, we didn't manage to use the pool or tennis as the equipment is only available during the limited shop hours when we would have really liked to use the facility in the evenings. The showers and toilets are great and are kept spotlessly clean. There is one block with 2 cubicles containing a loo, washbasin and shower. The other larger block near the caravans has separate showers, loos and washbasins, also washbasins in separate cubicles which was good. The laundry and washing up facilities are also great as is the provision for recycling glass, steel, aluminium, newspapers and magazines. The small shop stocks the basics and ice creams, etc. The main area for improvement I feel is the freezer facilities for ice blocks. We were told that they had facilities when we booked, I was therefore expecting a dedicated facility. However, in reality this meant trying to fit our blocks in the ice cream freezer in the shop which was very full. We could only fit 4 blocks in at a time, also we could exchange during the limited shop hours (which was closed after taking the children out for the day) so this meant our food perished quickly and we had to buy a lot more than usual. A dedicated facility would really make this site great for tent campers. I would like to return but the limited freezer block facilities mean I would be more likely to return for the weekend rather than the 5 nights we stayed. If this was improved, we could easily stay for 2 weeks as the children didn't want to leave and neither did we!
