Great little site. Very clean including the toilets and washing up areas. Nice parks for the kids and a decent enough games room for the older ones. Pretty relaxed staff allowing takeaway delivery to the gates etc. We had a camp fire which seemed fine so long as it's in a BBQ pit and not the grass. A very easy hassle free site with big pitches which we will definitely go back to!

Stayed at Abbey farm for the Easter weekend break and to sum up the stay :- FANTASTIC ! We stayed in a tent with other friends and we were all pitched together, which with children this helped a lot. There was a lovely park area with swings, slide and plenty of grass to run around ! The on site shop was very REASONABLY priced (found many very over priced !) The toilets were kept clean and tidy although when they ran out of toilet roll, I informed the staff who replaced within 5 minutes ! A games room with pool (50pence per game) and table tennis kept our children amused but as we had lovely weather they all played in the park area for most of the weekend ! Lovely, well kept and managed site and we have no doubts, we will be returning over the summer season again to Abbey Farm ! 10 out of 10 ! If you have young children this site is a must ! Very good value for money and not expensive campsite like many others we have stayed at.

Just had a really good bank holiday weekend at Abbey Farm, Ormskirk. Site is very clean and pitches are of good size too. There are 2 toilet blocks which are cleaned every day, showers are good and warm, also a separate disabled toilet with shower, bath and sink too. The brothers and their families who own the site are very welcoming and helpful with any issue you may have. There is a small shop that sells a little more than the essentials and also beer, wine and cider just in case you've ran out! There is a separate dog walking field and a very large recreation field for kids - more than adequate for them to play football, cricket, etc. There are also swings, etc for the little ones too. Facing the shop/reception is a games room with pool, table tennis, games, etc and there is also a library which you may borrow books during your stay, and also another children's play area for the minors. The waste bins were also emptied twice during the 4 nights we stayed. There is a field with Shetland ponies and also fishing facilities too. There is no pub or club on this site which is why we like it as it was so peaceful and relaxing, as the weather was dry everybody seemed to chill and have their own bbq's but if you did want a pint, there is a pub 5 mins walk northwards of the site. It looked like that there is a new field opening with new lodges to live in too. Although we stayed in our tourer, there was also plenty tents on too. There is also laundrette facilities too. Takeaways are only 5 mins away by car as Ormskirk centre is 5 mins drive which there is Morrisons, Argos, McDonalds, etc. The other direction is Burscough 5 mins drive away which has takeaways, Tesco, etc.
Southport is only approx 10 miles away too. One of the things we particularly liked about this site is that it is privately owned and therefore not all commercialised which made our stay more enjoyable. There was a mixture of young families to the elderly but everyone was polite and said hello. Will definitely be returning to this site shortly too.

Having previously visited this site before with the caravan, we now find ourselves here again, but this time in a tent.
Came with my 2 kids (aged 6 and 8) and my mate, with his daughter (aged 11). The site, facilities and staff are still as good as we remembered from our last visit a few years ago.
The 2 brothers who own and run the site are brilliant, make you very welcome and go out of their way to help you when ever possible.
For families and espeacially kids, this is a very safe site, but gives them plenty of room to run free and enjoy themselves.
Facilities are always kept to a very good standard and everything you need for a great family camping holiday is there for you, including a good games room, library, play areas and a huge field for whatever games you want to play.
Dont think twice about taking your family here, its brilliant and we will be returning for a fourth time very soon.

I posted a review about 6 years ago. We have not been to this site for a couple of years due to family commitments, but we have just spent a lovely weekend here. The excellent things that I said in my previous posting still apply. The owners still make the campers their priority. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The site is immaculate and well laid out. It seems, from speaking to people, the word has got round not to come here if you want to party all night. This is a family site and hopefully will remain so.

Had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend again at Abbey Farm. Shown to our pitch. Very friendly and helpful staff that work in the shop and on site. Shop well stocked well unless you get sun burnt and have forgot to pack the sun cream into new caravan so had to see if they sold after sun which in my case they hadn't got around to stocking yet. You can also order your daily paper in the shop.
The toilet/shower block always clean and tidy. Shower is great as can set your own water temperature and not a push button type.
Plenty of places to visit. Lovely cafe at Scarisbrick Marina and afterwards a lovely stroll down the canal. Great chip shop in Burscough 'Fish Bar' plenty of choice to choose from as they also do curries. Great Market in Ormskirk on Thursday and Saturdays. Nice stroll along the lane to the local pub Bull and Dog nice outdoor siting area, so could take the dog. Great dog walk on site which is large and enclosed. 2 parks which are great for the children. 1 is a larger park in a large field for ball games and a smaller plastic play area near the shop for little children which our niece enjoyed plating on. There is also a games room and a library which we didn't use.

The campsite is in a lovely rural setting, but not far from Ormskirk and Burscough and all places beyond. Lots of places locally to visit either by car or on foot. We managed to walk to the Ship at Lathom (It's gone posh and pricey and we should have walked a short distance to Burscough!) and then on to Taylors Farm Shop to stock up for next day breakfast. Possibly a four mile circle. By car you can visit local attractions such as Martin Mere, Mere Sands, Rufford Old Hall etc.
Takeaways in Ormskirk and Burscough. The Little Italy Pizzeria in Ormskirk (Green Lane) with folded garlic bread is heavenly. Deedars in Burscough do a good curry. We didn't try the Bull and Dog pub in Burscough although that was within walking distance and probably quicker on foot that in car. We can also recommend the Bull and Dog Garage for servicing/MOTs and repairs!
The site is well laid out with pitches allocated. We had a flat pitch with an electric hook up. Some of the pitches do have a slight gradient to them and these seemed to be smaller pitches without EHU. The pitch we were on was well drained despite heavy rain one night and one day.
The loos were always clean, even after the morning rush, and the showers were included in the price (although Mrs Billy thinks they should be anyway!)
There was a really good adventure playground for the children (and adults) although it was in a separate field so we did have to accompany our four year old.
We didn't use the games room or the library but we did have the benefit of lovely weather and it was nice to see that these facilities were provided.
The owners are lovely and made us feel welcome. They have a shop which has the usual basic essentials and they will order a paper for you. There was no noise really after about 9:30 (most noise coming from over excited children)
It was excellent value for money and glorious weather had us paying for another night without hesitation.
We would visit again and would thoroughly recommend. Although we were close to home, the rural setting made us feel like we were a million miles away!

Wonderful small site. Excellent showers and toilets, always clean and never busy. Small shop on site for basics as well as ordering newspapers on arrival. Ormskirk only a few miles away and only £4 by taxi to return to site one evening. Ormskirk train station has free parking and only £10 return to Liverpool central for a family of 4. We had a super pitch and was very private. Overall a very peaceful and well looked after site. Will definitely be returning

We have just returned from a great weekend at Abbey Farm. Booking was simple, we rang up and asked about availability, told them the size of our tent, and were told that they only had electric pitches that big. Not a problem, we paid the deposit over the phone, and about 5 minutes after, got confirmation via email. This explained that she'd actually had a look at the bookings, and could fit us over 2 non-electric pitches, which she didn't think theyd sell. This was good for us, as we weren't bothered about ehu, and it worked out cheaper-bonus!
Campsite was very easy to find with map and satnav. On arrival we were buzzed in, met by reception, booked in, and shown to our pitch. We were down at the bottom of the tent field, on a slight slope, in the corner under the trees. Not too much of an issue, but we were well away from everyone else in the field. And there are dirty birds in those trees-we had to clean up their mess from our tent several times! The pitches at the top of the field are much flatter than at the bottom.
At the top of the tent field is a small facilities block, with a larger one on a different field. Both were mostly clean at all times. Theres also a games room, which my kids loved, and a library, and a small shop opposite, with laundry and pot wash next door. The kids play area was just near our pitch, again this was appreciated by our kids, and most of the others on site.
Had a trip out on Sunday to the giant car boot sale in Burscough-it is HUGE! Its walkable in 10 minutes from the site, but we took the car as we planned to go on elsewhere afterwards. Its £2 to park when you get there. Tesco in Burscough is a small-ish one, but fine for your basic stock up shop. The farm shop that you reach turning left out of the site (i think its called Taylors) is AMAZING, and well worth a visit for your meat and produce. Can highly recommend their flatiron steak cooked on your bbq-beautiful! And they do a fresh peppercorn sauce to go with, which is lovely.
All in all, a lovely weekend at a great little site. We tend not to visit the same sites, because there are SO many to see, but there is no other reason that we'd not go back here, and we are more than happy to recommend it.

Our first family camping trip and we chose very well. Found Abbey Farm to be a lovely site. The facilities were clean and modern. There were several toilet blocks we were located near the smallest but it was always clean and never fully occupied. The children's recreation field was large and well maintained. I can find no fault with the site will probably return at some point and certainly recommend.
