Our first camping trip with our two boys, aged 4 & 14! Very easy booking system, staying on the Bank Holiday weekend and the sun came out to play!
Arrived to be greeted by the owner who took us to our pitch. Very friendly guy who made us feel welcome. We set up the tent, whilst the boys went to the end of the campers field to discover a hidden treasure! A huge field for the children with lovely climbing frames and swings - photos should be included on the website of this, to attract more families. Dogs are not allowed on the field giving peace of mind for parents.
The games room was a bonus for the eldest and the youngest loved the library - maybe more books for the little ones?
The shop was stocked well, shorter opening hours at the weekend were a disappointment at times for the boys but with Ormskirk town centre less than 10 mins away its easy to stock up locally.
The smaller toilet block located by the campers field was clean and tidy, as the morning went on the floor did become slippery, but there was always hot showers and toilet roll!
My husband did spend a couple of hours at the fishing lake, a very keen fisherman who was disappointed with the fish quantity and overgrowth. He was however, impressed he was asked if he had a fishing license, most top lakes don't seem to bother with this question!
We witnessed all campers leaving their pitches at some point, as we did too. We left tables, chairs etc out and at no point did we feel they were not safe. Peaceful at night too!
We invited a couple of visitors over for a bbq on the Saturday and were very impressed that they were made very welcome, this made the weekend more enjoyable for us and left us at ease.
Overall our first camping trip in a tent, did not disappoint. A lovely site, I would certainly recommend for a couple of nights away. Lovely surroundings for a small site. We will definitely return.

Just returned from abbey farm, what a fabulous place, yes it was a little muddy but what do you expect with our great British weather. Pitches were nice some hardstanding some grass with ehu and some fully serviced pitches, staff were very friendly and and helpful, there was a small shop where you can order newspapers and sold milk bread sweets etc.
Toilet blocks are very well presented everything was spick and span no matter what time of day showers were nice and hot, there is a dog walk area where you can exercise your dog off lead,
The owners were telling me that they had recently got planning permission granted for wooden lodges twin and single which I could imagine being beautiful if the rest of the park is anything to go by. Well done abbey farm. We
Will be back soon.

This site seems to be one that up to a few years ago was top notch, a fact borne out by the rows of awards on the wall in the small library that go for years then stop at like 2008, and is now slowly starting to show frayed edges. Though we stayed out of season ( 2nd week in sept) there were signs everywhere warning of dire retribution for kids playing in toilets/making noise etc
The site appears to be mainly seasonal pitches with a tent field and a dozen or so touring caravan pitches, the centre field we were on thankfully had a tar road up the middle as it was wet and boggy, though the next field was all grass no road!
Toilets were as mentioned earlier getting tired ( peeling paint, cracked mirror, almost colour bleached vanity tops, lights inopp, shower seats rusted and fell off the wall etc) and over 4 days the ladies had no hot water, and mainly no loo roll in most of the cubicles in either. Cleaning was superficial and ok ish but windowsill were dirty/missed etc. Wash up area and laundry were similar
On the plus side £1. 00 a day wifi worked well, electronic barrier a good idea, small shop and cheap fishing (though that was well overgrown with no real platforms/dug out flat areas to sit at, just seemed neglected)
Don't get me wrong, nice staff ( saw him once in and once out) efficient systems, handy for town and good pubs within 3-4 miles. Ormskirk only 4mins away by car and a nice country location, it was just a shame it wasn't 2008 as I think the place would have been exceptional with owners overseeing all and keeping things tip top, now it just seems to be managed by staff? who do a fairly good job.
I have stayed at many better and some poorer and don't think I'd return sadly

Just returned home from a two-night stay at Abbey Farm, with the wife & two granddaughters. No complaints whatsoever & would heartily recommend this site & we will be returning soon with friends.
The site is spotlessly clean & the owners are helpful and welcoming. The tent site only caters for 24 tents which was perfect for us as we're not keen on huge commercial sites. There are several fields for caravans & they also have a big plot for statics.
Toilets & showers are clean and there's a shop on site which sells all the basics at reasonable prices. The pitches are level & considering the amount of rain we've had, they were well-drained and not in the least muddy.
As for activities, there's plenty for young children including a good games room (pool, table tennis, video games & a library). There's also a huge recreation field with a play area. No concerns about safety at all & we were able to relax.
There's a decent fishing lake (which made me happy) that only costs £2. 50 a day. A ten minute walk up a footpath will take you to a couple of pubs & Ormskirk town centre is only a five minute drive away.
Dogs are welcome as long as they're kept on a lead and there are plenty of places to walk them off site as well.

Just returned from a weekend here with the folding camper.
The pitches in the field next to the shop are lovely and level and fairly spacious. We only used the small toilet block on that field, which were adequate - there were 2 shower rooms with a toilet, sink and shower in each. They could have done with a broom and mop in there as grass got walked in and there was no way to clean up after yourself. Showers were hot and reasonably powerful.
There was a field set aside for children's ball games and there was a super climbing frame, swings, slide and an old tractor for the children to play on. We didn't feel comfortable to let our daughter go and play on her own, which was a bit of a pain, but not a major issue.
We had a really nice weekend on this site, which has good links to Liverpool, Southport and Formby, where there is a lovely beach and forest walks.
The owners were pleasant and helpful, the site overall was well maintained and well run.

The site is well positioned close to the motorways and handy for Liverpool (where we were headed). We only stayed overnight for one night, but it was perfect for our needs.
The park is well laid out, with a lot of static units as well as a lot of tourers. The pitches are a good size, with hardstanding for campers and motorhomes; the tent field looked pleasant as well.
The toilet block was spacious and clean. There is a small shop which we did not need to use on this occasion; good to see it though.
This is a large site but well maintained and we would not hesitate to use it again.

Generally a well organised site. Quiet despite its size. Large pitches. Taken to pitch by helpful staff. Two toilet blocks, games room & library.
Small shop. First impressions were very positive - toilets clean etc. Only negative -, at times ran out of toilet paper. Resorted to taking own just in case!
Could do with a back-up system. Disabled facilities. Dog walk and large field for games. Fishing available.
Wi-fi available. Good security - barrier & fob. Barrier locked 11.30 pm to 7.30 am. Useful leaflet provided on arrival.

Short visit just to get away close to home and was not disappointed. Lovely spacious site. Owners very helpful as we were new to caravanning.
Excellent dog exercise area, quite large fenced off grass, plenty of room for dogs to run.
Had a walk around the tent area and this was very neat and tidy, very dry ground considering we had had quite a lot of rain.
Facilities clean and tidy. Local pub the Dog and Bull 5-10 min walk from site with excellent food and evening entertainment. Will definitely return to this site.

We came to Abbey Farm on recommendation from a friend. We found the owners very friendly and helpful.
The site itself was perfect I went with my sister and 5 children and even from the first day they were saying that they want to come back here every year for a holiday.
There's a huge recreational field with a play park for the kids to run around and play. They were safe and content. They also had a games room where they could go and play pool, ping pong and table football.
We all had a brilliant time. Great site, made loads of new friends and will definitely be going back. Facilities were great too all close and cleaned daily.

We wanted somewhere close to where we live to test out our new ehu and what a surprise Abbey farm was we had a really nice time.
The pitch sizes were ok, not the biggest but not the smallest we have stayed on at other campsites,
The toilets on our field did get a bit dirty at times but this is to be expected as people do have to use the facility's however they were cleaned regularly,
There were two play-parks for kids one for the very young (toddlers) and one for slightly older kids 5-10yrs these looked a bit tired but the kids certainly didn't mind, there is also a games room with a pool table and a couple of arcade games but these were quite expensive and a small library which was quite nice
I would recommend the pub nearby it took us about 10 minutes with a 4 year old and a 2 year old to walk there. The food is basic pub food but well cooked and reasonably priced
Overall very happy with this site and will certainly be returning
