Had a great weekend here, Two camping fields, the top field very flat and near the entrance to the site, and the lower field just slightly sloping and near the large playing field and site shop both with ample EHU's.
The main toilet block is kept extremely clean with plenty of showers Etc.
Although a large site with lots of touring vans and statics on site it was really quiet in the evenings.
The site has a large field with climbing frames, swings Etc, also a fishing lake, permits can be bought from the shop.
Two local pubs both serving food Bull & Dog 10 min walk away and the Lion just five mins from there.
Locally its only a short drive into Ormskirk with a good selection of shops and an excellent farmers Market on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Also a good location for visiting Southport (15mins), Liverpool (20mins), Blackpool (45mins) and the Lake District (1Hr 20mins).
I will certainly be returning frequently in the future and have already recommended this site to friends.

A nice site ideal for the kids with a large playing field and play area, indoor games room and library.
Tent pitching area is sheltered and flat, and there was plenty of room available between the pitches.
Showers were ok when they worked, there was a problem and they were switched off on the Saturday night.
Unfortunately the weekend was ruined by some rowdy campers who decided to stay awake until 3am on the Friday night, despite constant requests to be quiet. The site owner was very quick to respond though and they were off the site by midday on Saturday.
All in all a good site, would recommend and we will use again.

Spent a lovely weekend at this site. Very clean and well maintained, the showers etc were excellent and the site has lots of nice little touches like the games room and library.
We found the owners efficient and helpful. The site was very quiet despite seeming quite full. We walked into ormskirk and had a poke around the market, lunch and shopping.
In the evening we went to the red lion (on the recommendation of the site owner) and had an excellent meal - very good value. This pub is just further along the road than the bull and dog. Would definitely recommend both the site and the pub.
Also good for children, although ours are grown up now but there was even a shower at a cooler temperature for children, very thoughtful.

Found good reviews for this campsite on here but will not camp here overnight again, we stayed(9pm-9am) on a cycle tour, its a very clean and well run site with plenty of excellent facilities,
The tent pitches had been left in a carpet of wet grass cuttings & we thought the advertised £8.50 each fee for overnight was expensive so we were a little upset when we had to pay £9.50 each next morning in the site shop, however shower/toilet block was very clean with 2 combined toilet/shower rooms & no extra charges for the timed hot water which again for us was very inconvenient.
This site would be very good for families with young children staying on-site,
An unmanned gated railway crossing on the footpath near the main entrance may be a concern to some parents whose children wander off-site to explore. If you continue along this footpath for about 5min, passing a waste recycling site to your left you arrive at the busy A59 where you will find the excellent bull & dog.
From here its about a mile into Burscough with the usual fastfood & local shopping facilities, etc.

Stayed here middle of September. The site was reasonably easy to find and on entering the site there is a security barrier. Once through the barrier just pop in to the shop, book in and you then get shown to your pitch. Our pitch was at the bottom of the camping field and was already a little muddy. Saturday afternoon it started to rain quite heavy and when we got back to the site the field was quite boggy. Our tent appeared to be in pool of mud, so avoid going here in wet conditions. I'm sure we would have had a much enjoyable time had the weather been dry. The site itself is very close to the town of Ormskirk and within easy reach of Southport and Skelmersdale.
There is a large playing area for children and an indoor games room that included a pool table, table tennis and arcade machines.
The toilet/shower blocks that we used were very adequate and although the field was very muddy they were reasonably clean.
Washing up facilities were also very good and they also provided a vegetable preparation area. Lots of leaflets were also available.
Overall it did appear to be a lovely site, the owners were very friendly and I would recommend this site (but not when it rains). We did have fun trying to get off the site as the wheels on our car just wanted to spin in the mud.

A lovely Bank Holiday Weekend at Abbey Farm.
A nice site for static caravans, tourers and tents. Facilities are very good. There is a games room for kids - which keeps them entertained in wet weather and a huge recreational field with a play park, nets for badminton etc and beyond that, there's a separate dog exercise field.
There was lots of kids (of all ages) to get stuck in - so I actually didn't see mine much.!
The pond for fishing is a very reasonable £2.50 per rod - kids caught roach, perch and rudd.
The shower facilities are great with loo, sink, shower and hand dryer all their own cubicle which were clean every time I used them. In the ladies there is a 20p coin operated hairdryer. There is also a power point, so was able to used my own.
There is a shop on site which sells quite a lot of stuff.
Owners are friendly. There is a payphone on site and and an information board. There's even an on-site library.
The town centre of Ormskirk is approx 35 mins (steady) walk away.
Note: There is a refundable £10 barrier key
Had a really nice weekend. Would return to this lovely site

It was my 1st trip camping on my own with 2 boys aged 9 & 4 so I went for a site I know a b it I have been to Abbey Farm b4 with the oldest and his mother a few years ago and he was delighted to see the old tractor was still in the play area. The site was clean and tidy but could maybe do with a update. The staff couldn't have been any more helpful. The site is quite secluded and as such is perfect for familys just make sure you have all you need because its a trek if the small site shop is closed. The pub is about a 15/20 minute walk but worth it for a meal if you don't fancy cooking.
Asked if I would go back the answer is simple try stopping me.

Another excellent stay at Abbey Farm please see May review, its very rare we re visit a site so soon after the initial visit, just guaranteed to chill out here we love it.
The only difference this visit was the pitch just by the shop that was a tad smaller than the last but closer to the shop, loos, wash up etc.
We also did a walk just ask staff for directions to the Dog and Bull then take a left and just keep going fort around 4 miles to Ormskirk and the main road back about 2 miles a good leg stretch the dog was knackered.

This was our first camping trip so we thought we'd dip our toes in the water with a site close to home (Manchester) and all the facilities.
The only pitch they had available was with a hook up (which I didn't plan to use) so had to pay a bit extra which wasn't a problem. Having said that, I quickly knocked up an EHU and packed it, just in case. One small gripe is that the hookups adjacent to each pitch are not operational, you have to use a central hookup which was about 30 metres away from our pitch and my extension wasn't long enough. They would have lent me one (if I'd asked on the intercom) but I wasn't sure if it was my equipment that was faulty or their's. The chap who showed us to the pitch should have mentioned that the EHU wasn't working but it's a small oversight, just make sure you have a long cable.
I agree with all the other reviews here. Great site with all facilities as advertised. Didn't see much of my 8 year old son, he was busy playing on the field and with other kids.
The dog exercise area is a welcome inclusion but much too small for a large dog to get any worthwhile exercise. Fortunately there are plenty of public footpaths round about (one runs right through the site (coming in along the entrance road, past the private residence and turn right on to a field)).
My oldest son spent a lot of time fishing at the pool but didn't catch anything. Other anglers were making regular catches though so it is well stocked. At least it kept him quiet!
At the moment, Flax Lane is closed which adds another 5 minutes into town, it's probably quicker to go to Ormskirk.
To conclude, I would recommend the site to a friend and this was a good place to stay on our first trip.
