We booked this site for a club rally and were told no problem and that we could pitch together, however on arrival we found it to be 'first come first served' and we were spread out plus no pitches had been reserved and they ran out of pitches ! ! so booking is irrelevant.
The site is actually quite nice and has a decent play area and access to the river which the kids loved playing in. They keep the site clean and tidy and is reasonably well laid out but does have a few things that let it down.
There is only one toilet in the gents which means there is normally a queue and the showers are a very strange layout, there are two showers and the entrance door enters into the first showers changing area which you have to walk through to get to the other shower, so if you're getting changed people have to squeeze past you.
The fresh water tap is outside the gents toilets with no drain so the area is always wet through which means the toilet floor is always wet and muddy. The toilets were cleaned once a day but soon got filthy due to the water outside the doors. There are plenty of shops nearby for groceries etc and the area has plenty to see and do.
I would visit again and wouldn't class it as a bad site it's just a bit strange amenity wise.

Just returned from the site today, its our first outing and what a lovely site to start with.Everyone so friendly.
The staff in the Grouse and Claret are so nice and very proffessional and polite a credit to the manager. The services on the site are basic but ok.
Surrounding area full of things to do with the shopping outlet next door. There is a children's play area which is full of good quality play things, next to that is the pubs beer garden so with older children you can sit and have a relaxing drink while the children play. We were told that some times in bad weather it floods in certain areas but it didn't rain too much while we were there. The area for tents looks flat and well grassed. You don't book a certain pitch therefor you take pot luck where you are going to be. All in all a reasonable site.

We have just returned from this site which we have visited for many years, but will not be returning too again. We booked weeks ago, but on arrival we were lucky to get the last remaining pitch, under very overgrown trees. Two caravans came after us that had booked, but there were no pitches left.
The roadway has big potholes in,and the pitches need maintaining.
Toilet facilities were filthy,no matter what time of day it was.
The site obviously needs time and money spent on it to bring it up to a reasonable standard.
Booking is a waste of time, if you turn up without a pitch available.
We were very disappointed that our once favourite site has not been maintained.

Stayed here over that May Day bank holiday weekend and was disappointed with this site. Arrived on Saturday morning and most of the good pitches were gone, consequently we had to pitch up next to the footpath.
There were a few single sex groups & bikers staying there and it was noisy until midnight. The site is between a busy road an a shopping outlet centre so although handy for the outdoors shops etc it felt too urban for me.
Facilities were ok, toilets shower block etc, but the ones in the shopping centre are cleaner (but only open during the day). Didn't feel it was for me as it was busy pub with a playground and a camping ground in the back field.

Stayed here for one night beginning of April in our campervan with hard standing electric hook up. Friends stopped on the camping field in their tent.
I had called in advance to reserve a pitch but was told it was first come first serve. We arrived at lunch and was able to pick a pitch however due to lovely spring weather it soon filled up. Our extension lead would not reach the electric point! Only to be told by the campsite owner (pub manager) that this had never happened before (however he did kindly lend us a longer lead) this then didn't work and we found it was because electric point had tripped out but a bar staff member soon sorted it out.
It was a lovely site, toilets a little messy and did feel that due to the pub being really busy did feel that the staff didn't really have time for the campers! They failed to even provide a key for the shower and toilet rooms and when we asked they said they had none left as people failed to return them. Not a happy bunny when I needed a toilet trip at 3 in the morning! All in all an ok site, an enjoyable one night stop over close to Chatsworth and good walks, nice pub with half decent pub grub.

Nice site and this was our second visit. The food in the pub was once again great.
Play ground for children and shopping outlet 2 minutes walk.
The only down side is only 3 toilets in the ladies and the showers there was 2 but, if 1 person goes in you would have to lock the door so really only 1 in use unless shared with family members. The showers where warm but when repressing they went freezing cold then warm, strange. Due to that happening it took longer to shower keep jumping in and out off the shower.
I will be visiting again but not in high season unless there were new facilities

Warm welcome by staff in Pub when checking in, nice sized level pitches although service road around site is very uneven and I would imagine gets flooded in heavy rain.
Showers and Toilets were clean, modern and warm. Waste point was good and so was the cleaning area, couldn't see any recycling point though.
Pub was very traditional and food was very good 2 meals for £10, only complaint pub is more an eatery than a boozer We sat at a table and kept getting asked what we wanted to eat when at the time we only wanted a drink.
Children welcome and there is a play area outside for kids.
Peak Village outlet just 2minute walk away and supermarket is at Matlock (just up the road)
Only thought is that this was March we visited and there were no tents there at the time, I can imagine that in Peak season the toilet blocks and showers will get busy as only two showers, two urinals and one toilet.
All in all a very nice, welcoming, value for money site and we will definitely be visiting again.

The site is in a little village just past Bakewell. We booked over the phone but when we arrived it looked like first come first served ;you just find a spot and go inside the pub and pay the landlord. It has electric hookup but tv reception was poor without a sat dish but who needs tv with a good pub selling good grub right on your doorstep. You pay £5 deposit for the shower keys the shower is ok but you had to keep pressing a button and each time it started it went cold, and there was nowhere dry to stand to get dressed. The pitches are hard standing and a field adjacent for tents and people were camping and having a great time in it. Right next to the pub is a shopping outlet village with a toy museum entry £3 it was a case of remember that and that and that. Very close by is a working flour mill and craft shops worth a visit ,its on the river bank with lots of ducks and grouse to feed, lots to do for a weekend and we will be going again but now people know how good it we may not get on.

After reading the previous reviews I was somewhat hesitant as to what to expect as it was friends who had booked for our party of 4 tents. We arrived early afternoon & the rest of our party arriving shortly afterwards.Good job as the field was already filling up. This is actually a great place for group bookings as you can pitch anywhere unlike some that are allocated, meaning we could pitch in a circle. The only downside was the ignorance of some fellow campers who walked through our 'circle' to get to the car park, squeezing between a cooker & our tent rather than taking the pathway behind the tent. Not just once, but several times! The Peak Village shopping was great, we had several people ask if the tents were part of an exhibition with one woman about to enter our friends tent to look inside! Playground was a big hit, toilets not so, but adequate.

We stayed here on two of the coldest days in December, Frozen water and waste on the caravan. Great time all the staff at the pub are great and welcoming serving a good pint and food. The shopping centre next door has some nice shops and you can get a full English breakfast as we did after hitching up for our departure. Look forward to visiting again in warmer weather.
