The Grouse and Claret is in an excellent location situated between Matlock and Bakewell on the A6. There are bus stops within a couple of hundred yards to Matlock and Derby to the south and Bakewell and Buxton to the north. The adjoining public house serves excellent food from a Covid related restricted menu.

However, the site itself is disappointing. The male and female toilet/shower block is clean but there are only 2 small hangers within the shower compartment and nowhere to place soap, flannel or shampoo. The floor became very wet very quickly.

Attached to the toilet block is the one and only fresh water tap. Within the 28-pitch ground there is no grey water drain. There is a drain for chemical toilet waste which could be used for the grey water but it's around 15-inches above the ground.

As some of the waste water containers hold 45-litres, lifting them to empty them is not an easy feat. Although Wifi is available the signal is poor as is mobile phone and TV reception.

There is supposed to be TV through connectors at each pitch but they didn't work. At £25 pn during the week and £28 pn at the weekend I thought it was poor value for money.

Nice site behind the pub with over 20 hardstanding pitches. Showers and toilets were spotlessly clean and water was always hot.

The pub sold good value food especially breakfast. It is also dog friendly in certain rooms which suited us. The pub is in between Bakewell and Matlock and is handy for both.

The only problem we found was that pitches 1-8 were in the shade (we were on pitch 4). Other than that I would thoroughly recommend the Grouse and Claret.

Great stay, the food in the pub was good,

The site is clean and well kept. Perhaps the toilet block could do with a little extra cleaning especially at this time

Love the site and location

Will be back very soon

The site was lovely, but the staff needed to keep on top of the shower block as there was water everywhere.

Equally the food, drink, and customer services when we ate there were massively disappointing.

I would point out though that the staff were knew and the manager acknowledged our concerns reducing our bill.

The location for places was excellent.

We loved the site. Toilets and showers were near and clean.

We visited Matlock and Matlock Bath which was lovely as usual, location for the towns is great. X

Lovely site behind the pub all hardstanding pitches with grass borders.

Toilets need attention no locks on door(not sure if covid situation on this) no urinals only WC. Shower was hot with big shower tray but no shower curtain so floor gets flooded where you stand to get dressed/undressed.

The pub itself did meals which was ok to me but good to others using a one way system which was ignored by some people I accept its still difficult times but if guidelines are made make sure they are kept to.

All in all great site but little things let it down but not off putting.

Will try this site again hopefully at better times.

Really well laid out site. Very pleasant stay.

Shower cubicle however are not very big so floor gets soaked. The disabled shower has no hooks to hang anything. With a few adjustments could be perfect. Must say the toilet/shower blocks are immaculately clean.

Pub food very good and reasonably priced. Wi fi not the best however.

All in all very enjoyable weekend - we have booked again!

This site could be fantastic. Lovely views, good walking. Unfortunately for us the environmental agency had to chop down a fallen tree so all of our break was disturbed by chainsaws. We had pitched up before they started but then had to move to another pitch. Although irritating, it obviously couldn’t be helped.

What could be helped was the noise from a large group of vans which continued until after midnight. Outside bbq and children running around. We telephoned the pub for help but the noise continued. There is a policy of no noise after 10. 30, it should be enforced.

Great site directly behind the Grouse & Claret, next to a shopping mall too,

Not far from Chatsworth House which is a must,

Good hardstanding pitch with EHU and TV point,

Toilet block were clean with underfloor heating. showers were cold need to run for quite a few minutes,

No traffic noise,

Would like to revisit in warmer months

Only a short journey into matlock or bakewell

Overall nice pleasant stay and would stay again
