October 2004 This site is at the back of a pub which gets so busy they don't seem to keep tabs on who's on the site, who's paid who's booked in or anything and the managers appeared to be very harassed and came accross as though he site was a nuisance. When asked can we stay a little later on sunday the lady said "you can stay till midnight if you want" Some people turned up who had booked in but were not happy as they ended up having to be on the car park. The facilities are o.k. but not great, the pitches were alright where the hardstanding was but the grass was as you would expect it at this time of year. The site is next door to a very nice shopping complex. We found the pub only seemed to encourage people eating and do not seem to be very keen to serve you with only a drink. That said if you do eat there the meals are very good. The area is very nice and it is within easy reach of places to visit. I would go again but only on spec as I wouldn't want to book and be disappointed.

August 2004 Just come back from a night on this site. Excellent! We visited a couple of times 2 years ago and it was 'okay' mainly the pub & site was run down and staff quite unhelpful. Anyway it has all had major refurbishment and the pub is really good. We rarely eat out but decided to try last night and it was very good. We arrived at the site Saturday evening collected the key (for loo and shower) and were told just to pitch on whatever suited us and was available - there were only 3 pitches left. Its a small site but very good and the tent camping side is brilliant - it was full and they all looked to be having a good time. The Peak shopping centre is nice for a look around and plenty of walking to do in the area. The big plus for us is that your're not pushed off your pitch on sunday morning. We checked with John who runs the pub and site and he said there is no problem at all, we didn't leave until gone 7pm! Definately a good site if you can only do a short stay like us and dont want pushing off the site early. Maybe could do with more loo's etc, but you can always pop in the pub, which is open all day and evening and for short stay you'l manage. Excellent site and we will definately be going back again and again!

May 2004 I have just spent the past Bank Holiday at this site, a lovely location adjoining a well presented and run public house, with an excellent menu. This site would be best visited on non Bank Holiday weekends. We found the site fully booked with some caravans and motor homes pitching on the car park and most males complaining at the lack of w.c facilities (only one w.c.).

30/04/04 Had a great weekend away at this lovely site over Bank Holiday weekend. The Grouse and Claret served excellent meals and was run by cheerful and efficient staff. There was only one letdown and that was the lack of w.c. facilities for the guys, only one w.c. With it being Bank Holiday and the site full, some units were placed on the car park, thus meaning even more bodies for the facilites.
A great site to visit out of Bank Holiday periods.

4 August 2003 As virgin campers we spent hours deciding where to go. We chose very well. This site was perfect for our needs. Next to the pub and childrens play area. River running at bottom of site. Next to beautiful shopping area but very quiet. Craft centre close by at the flour mill, 5 minutes walk away. Definately returning. For £7 per night per pitch why wouldn't we?? Many thanks to the helpful staff.

May 2003 We have been staying here on and off for many years. At the end of 2002 the G&C changed hands and the price went up. (from £9.99 to £12.50)The site had got very run down and the toilets, and showers in particular, were not very good.We didn't think we would be staying there again.
However, we were pleasantly surprised on visiting in May how transformed it was. The site now looks neat and pitches well marked. Broken lighting has been fixed . Toilets given a face lift (and also a much needed hand drier!) Showers also--although I still think only 2 showers not enough when the site is full. Will definitely be going again as the price rise is now worth it. Pub also looked much cleaner and brighter, although we didn't eat in there this time.

VARIOUS DUE 6/6/03 The pub provides a choice of bar meals, and also accomodates 28 camping/caravan pitches with electric hook ups. The facilities include toilet/shower block and water/waste disposal points. The pub is close to Chatsworth and good walking country. Can be very busy if there is an event being held at Chatsworth House (Vintage car rallies etc.). Yet again, spent many excellent wekends there and am going again this Friday. (Ownership has changed since last time so will update when I return).
Cheers
Gary
