This is a great little site. Well laid out pitches but due to site layout you have to park your car on the pub car park. There is no room to park next to your van, which wasn't a problem for us.

Phone signal is poor and on our visit was quite busy so the free wifi was hit and miss. The tv signal is poor but they have tv points on the bollards so as long as you have a long tv cable not a problem, although we didn't you can hire one for a £20 deposit.

The pub itself was great with a good childs play area, good beer and food. The toilets/showers were adequate.

There is bus stop just outside the pub, which takes you to bakewell, matlock and further. They run about every hour and is about £4 return per adult. We had a dog and they allowed us on with her as well.

All in all a good site for which we will defo return.

Although this site has been upgraded it still needs a bit more tlc.

The showers were nice but nowhere to put your soap/shampoo etc you have to put it on floor (no shelf). The water pressure isn't Good if someone is in the next shower, Your water Stops running leaving you with soap etc what needs rinsing off.

We didn't go into pub so can't comment on food.

The site location is ok near Bakewell.

The dustbin area is a disgrace it's near a river so could attract rats.

Needless to say won't be going back

Beautiful site located behind the pub and sheltered from the weather by an old disused-railway embankment along one side. The pub serves good quality food which is excellent value for money. There is a good selection of lagers, wines and real ales. The pub is always busy, so you may have to either wait or book a table in advance. Without exception the staff are cheerful, friendly, helpful and efficient.

We stayed over the bank holiday weekend and the site was almost full. The price of £25 per night (pretty good value over the bank holiday weekend) included 16A EHU on a hard-standing pitch. The grass had been cut and neatly finished around the edges, making the site look cared for.

The only downside was the appalling state of the toilets – the gents urinals were blocked and overflowing all weekend and the ladies’ toilets only had one cubicle usable. The showers were filthy and open to all as the doors are badly damaged and do not shut properly. Also, the toilet facilities are open to everyone, including passing taxi drivers at all hours of the night.

If you do not need to use the site toilet facilities, then don’t let this review put you off as the site is in a good location and really nice. Also, the staff did mention that there is a plan in place to ‘sort-out’ the toilet block.

Looking forward to going back in October.

Stayed here, expecting a really nice site. However contrary to other reviews we were very disappointed. The pitches were preallocated, so the some were sitting empty whilst others were shoved in, If I had known this I would have requested a specific pitch. The facilities don't need a refurb, they need pulling down and starting again.

The ladies toilets, 1 was out of order when we arrived, 6 days later it was still out of order 1 the seat fell off when used, not fixed. The gents were shabby (hubbys description) the ladies showers were dreadful.

The front door had been 'battered in' unfortunately when you entered the showers, you walked straight into the first cubical. The second one led off the first, and the whole area was absolutely filthy, (old dirt) not todays it's the first time I have had to put a towel on the floor to keep my feet clean, awful. The CDP was positioned outside the building between the gents and the male shower, and very close to the drinking water tap, good for kids fetching water? the pot washing area was next door, and the sinks leaked, all over the paths and walkways, and also down toward a couple of pitches.

Every time you walked past you paddled in grey pudding, I assume it was limestone. There is a 'cleaner' who came every morning with a bucket and mop, sometimes a spray bottle of something, and sometimes with toilet rolls, but mopping the floor with a very wet mop, is not cleaning it, it just made it wetter and grubbier.

The restaurant was very nice, with an area for the dog owners to sit inside. There does need however some method of distinguishing the campsite from the pub, as over the weekend we were inundated by someones offspring (not caravanners) offspring running riot.

As mentioned the grass was quite long and could have done with a trim, but we have been to worse. This was by far the worst facilities block we have encountered, Having caravanned for about 40 yrs, we certainly will not go again.

The main attraction of this family friendly campsite is the location. It's 3 miles in either direction from Chatsworth and Bakewell making it an easy drive to anywhere within the Peak district. There is a cycle track into Matlock within a few hundred yards of the campsite. The site itself is situated just behind the Marstons pub beer garden.

Next to the site is the peak shopping village although it isn't visible from the pitches. There's an indoor childs play centre, a coffee shop, a few clothes shops etc. What is lacking in Rowsley is a corner shop so the nearest supplies are in Bakewell.

The river Wye runs around the edge of the site. I saw Rabbits, Heron and a kingfisher from my pitch. The river bank is reachable from the corner of the site. Unfortunately it's private fishing.

Pitches are not huge but cars are parked in the pub car park and not next to the unit. This makes it safer for children who run, scoot and cycle around the site when not using the playground.

The toilet and shower facilities could do with an upgrade but at least the showers were powerful. There are TV points provided on pitches. Also the grass could have been shorter but it wasn't a problem.

We stayed for three nights on a bank holiday weekend for £75 which I think was good value for money. Staff at the pub were friendly and helpful. Previously when we have stayed we just drove in and grabbed a pitch but the pub now allocates numbered pitches. There is no arrivals area or reception as such. I'd advise obtaining a pitch number before arriving and then driving straight to the pitch before checking in at the pub.

The location is fantastic just behind a really nice pub and very handy for trips to Matlock and Bakewell.

Have been several times before and TV booster boxes have been installed since my last visit. At a £25 per night price point the site just needs a good tidy up and refurb.

Pitch and road surfaces are a sandy material that turns into a mud slurry when wet and the moles have fully demolished most of the grass areas bless creating heaps of fresh mud everywhere.

Will still use it from time to time as its so handy for a meal at the pub but just hope someone invests in some gravel that will allow rain water to stay sub surface.

The pub tries to keep the facilities clean but on wet days they are fighting a loosing battle. Enjoyed my stay and bus to Bakewell just outside pub and only £7 return two adults and one junior.

The price point puts it in reach of Caravan Club pricing with those gorgeous pitches and facilities but often no pub! The choice is of course yours lol.

Very easy to find. Had to book in in the pub on site When we arrived greeted by a friendly young lady very quick booking us in gave us code to toilets and free WI-FI and pitch number. Good hardstanding pitch with electric hook up. Nice view with a lot of pitches overlooking the river. Toilet facilities very clean and warm. Only problem here I couldn’t get into the separate lady’s showers as the code wouldn’t unlock the door. So I had my husband stand guard outside the men’s good job it wasn’t busy here. On-site pub very nice food was excellent good site for s couple nights stay. Bus service to Matlock and bake well just outside the site.

Great little site in the Peak District. Site is located behind pub (Marstons), which has standard rotisserie chicken menu. Facilities are a little basic and starting to show age, but are clean. Pitches are level and well spaced with EHU and TV aerial point (good luck trying to get picture without it). Check in is in pub.

A nice little site behind the pub.

There are no site wardens, so you have to check in at the pub and can pick any pitch you like.

Facilities are little basic, but OK.

At first we struggled to get a TV reception until we realised you need to hire a TV cable (£10 refundable deposit) from the pub! Mobile (02) is OK. Although there is separate WIFI for the site, we could not receive it as we had chosen a pitch at the furthest point from the pub! There is WIFI in the pub itself.

We ate in the pub both nights, the food and staff were excellent.

There is a small shop in Rowsley, but doesn't sell newspapers however there is a COOP in nearby Darley Dale.

All-in-all we enjoyed our stay here and would return if in the area again.

A nice small site behind the pub, It was quiet and peaceful considering the location. We did get a couple of members of the public wandering around the site, I think they came from the shopping village next door.

One minus, the roadways around site had recently been re surfaced with a very sandy gravel and however hard we tried could not avoid getting sand and grit in our motorhome. I'm sure once it weathers in it will be better.

The toilet and showers are modern and clean.
