Stayed 1 night bank holiday weekend and really wished we had more time. Lovely site. Clean toilets and showers although one shower leads onto the other. Management were in pub and all very friendly and helpful. Pub was also good. I think the site has just had an overall maintenance carried out. We will certainly be going back. Very handy for visiting Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Matlock and lots of good walks. Thank you for a lovely stay

Pub good. Children's playground good. Showers/toilets reasonable. Pitches - some appalling, should be better maintained or closed off after rain - otherwise majority seemed OK. Looks like a lack of maintenance following a busy season. All staff friendly. They need to improve a few of the pitches to a reasonable standard.
Not my first visit but arriving late in the day didn't have a choice of pitch despite pre-booking. Had to take what was left and too late to go elsewhere. Pitch unbelievably muddy despite being a 'hardstanding'. Pitch was firm but coated with mud which resulted in the need to thoroughly wipe or remove footwear before entering van.
I may use site again but only if pitch suitable.

Just returned from this site. The touring park is behind a Marstons pub. The pub is great offering a wide selection of food. Also a good children's menu which wasn't just chips. Great play area and space for children to play.
You have to pay a refundable £10. 00 for the toilet /shower key. I found it a bit annoying that people didn't lock the door after they leave. This is why the pub users are able to use them. The showers and toilets were cleaned every day but not too thoroughly. Just a quick mop! The showers also have a strange configuration. You walk through one cubical to get to the other!.
The site itself was set out nicely and stands near the river. There were lovely walks from the site to Chatsworth House and we also walked along the river to the Peak Railway which took us and the dog to Matlock. Good bus service from outside site.
There was no dog poo problem when we were there but this is down to the dog owners.
Think more information could be given to campers on arrival. Did feel campers are a bit of an after thought.
On the whole this is a good site and in a great location especially for Motorhomes.

This is a really nice site. There is so much to see and do in the area. The local attractions include Chatsworth, Caudwell's Mill (a water-powered mill about 5 mins walk away), the preserved steam railway Peak Rail is about 20 mins walk and there is the the Peak Village shopping centre less than 4 mins walk away. The site itself has both electric and TV hook-up to every pitch. The toilets and showers are cleaned daily to a high standard. Unfortunately the toilets seem to be the convenience of choice for walkers/hikers and the local taxi-drivers at all hours! The site also allows dogs but the owners of the dogs do not clean up after their pets - the site had numerous piles of dog poo (10+). On a more positive note, the Pub on site provides an excellent-quality and value-for-money breakfast from about 7:30am to 10am. The main meal menu served during the day until about 8:30pm is also of a very good quality and is very good value for money too. Plus, for the real-ale fans, there is a selection of real ales, which seems to change frequently. We visit this site, and the pub, regularly and the standards are consistently very good. The site facilities have only been marked down due to the 'public access' element. We have stayed on this site during April, May, July and August 2015 and the comments herein were confirmed yet again during the August visit (i. E. Public access to toilets/showers, dog poo problem. The Pub food is consistently very-good-to-excellent, both in quality and value for money). The staff are also really good too - thankyou!

Not sure what to say about this site as it was the first time that we had visited it. The toilet /shower block wants a good overall although the showers were hot there was no privacy when getting dried as one shower leads into the other. Toilets were cleaned every day but no toilet brush in there to clean if needed. Pub was handy for meals but no local shop for milk papers etc. Wont be going back

We stayed over the spring bank holiday weekend. The site was full on the Saturday and Sunday. Pitches are allocated on a first come first served basis, and we ended up backing onto the children's play area. As it was a chilly weekend, this wasn't much of an issue.
The field was a bit cheek by jowl for our liking, with no hedging between pitches. The ones along the river stretch further back, so there is more room on these.
I expected the toilets and showers to be inadequate but I think I was the only one from our group who had to wait at all. There were a lot of larger units on the field, so maybe they used their own facilities? The toilets are left open for all and sundry to use - the pub beer garden is adjacent - but the showers do lock and you need to pay a £10 deposit on a pair of keys to use them. The washing up facilities were left in a dreadful state by those who used them; little attempt to clean up and plugholes blocked with food waste. However, there were no waste bins near the sinks to actually encourage people to tidy up.
I didn't think the charges were too bad for us; it's a flat fee, so it was £22 for car, unit, 4 people and a dog plus EHU. There is WiFi, but we needed to ask for the code - it wasn't offered.
The pub is really more of a restaurant that sells beer; food was what you'd expect from a brewery chain, but was reasonably priced and satisfied most tastes. The service inside was poor, though. Not rude, but overwhelmingly indifferent. Perhaps some of the staff need training, or a check to see if they are putting any training they have received into operation?
For the odd night, this site is OK, but we stayed because we were coming to the area to see friends who live there and couldn't get onto Barn Farm at Birchover, which was booked up for the bank holiday weeks before.

Just back from one night's stay at this site. It is set in a lovely paddock with hard-standing and nicely landscaped areas. There are also picnic tables by each pitch. For this, I'd give 10 out of 10 BUT there are many problems here that bring the score well down!
Firstly, there is little signage to tell campers where to report to on arrival. The cost was £22. 00 per night which is exorbitant in view of what else I am about to say. We had to pay a £10 deposit for the toilet key but then found the doors were permanently unlocked as they couldn't be locked! They were fairly clean considering the pub punters were also using them. The men only have one sit-down cubicle for the 29 pitches; there must be some massive queues at times. Other toilet/shower facilities were also inadequate for the number of pitches. TV reception is practically non-existent, so take a 25m cable to plug into the sockets provided.
My main gripe is the early-morning wake-up (5:15am) by the dray lorry arriving and spending close on an hour unloading kegs. This was followed by an unidentified buzzing noise for another hour. We are not the only ones to include this in a review of this site.
This site appears to have been forgotten by the management. Although they don't forget to charge £22 per night! No wonder it was deserted, and yet could be excellent with a few alterations.

Just had two nights here, lovely location. Found everyone friendly. The toilet blocks were basic but were cleaned regular. The pub was a great size, expensive meals but top quality, staff were very friendly. The site was small, clean and great for adults. Plenty of wildlife around and a wonderful river nearby. Also close to the peak village shopping centre but not much there. If you are going in a MH make sure you take what you need as no on site shop.

Good all round family campsite, clean and tidy with no noise even though campsite was quite full, except for some traffic noise from the nearby A6.
Lovely position next to the river with ducks, geese and pheasants wandering around!
There are plenty of walks in the area towards Bakewell or Chatsworth in beautiful countryside.
The pub is convenient for evening meals.
We had a lovely weekend and will visit again.

We stayed here when we visited the Christmas market at Bakewell. We were booked in very quickly and had a choice of pitches all with ehu. The toilet/shower block was clean and warm. The pub was very busy on the Saturday so we had something to eat and drink in the early evening after the rush, excellent pint of Hobgoblin and Marstons, the food was so so, nothing to rave about. Very easy bus ride to Matlock and Bakewell and some great dog walking down the lanes surrounding the pub. The outlet village is right next door and has a couple of good value outdoor shops for walking gear etc. We will definitely visit again in low season.
