We spent a Saturday night on this site, the first time back for 3 years. It was very busy and had we not arrived when we did we wouldn't have had a pitch as although I booked a week or so before we were told that they dont take bookings now. People were driving around looking for spaces! 2 out of the 3 ladies loo's were not working on the Sunday morning, and it was the same situation Sunday eve so I guess they're not cleaned or checked very regular. It is a handy site and I cant fault the pub or staff, the food is ok and plenty of choice. I like the site because it is handy but perhaps wont use again as we cannot arrive until later in the day and I wouldn't want the stress of no pitch's being available.

Regular visitor here(see previous comments)We were a little disappointed this time. When we arrived we were asked for £15.00 which we queried. Not because it was too expensive, but because it was advertised as £12.50 in two of this years brochures. All we got from the middle aged blonde lady behind the bar was 'It should have been changed'. This quite curtly. Not the welcome we`ve become used to at the Grouse. That evening, we enjoyed our usual meal in the restaurant and retired.
Next morning,I tried to enter the mens toilets with the key issue, however it was obviously the wrong key and no way could I gain entry. Into the bar I went and explained the situation to the same lady whom I had spoken to the previous evening. 'Can you wait, the key to the key drawer is not here'. By this time I could feel my blood pressure rising and answered with a firm 'NO'. My ladyfriend quickly conjured up another key and I made my way back to the toilet. Would you believe it, this one was duff also.
In desperation I reluctantly used the ladies which was open to all and sundry with my wife standing guard outside. Sort it out John

A nice, well laid out site, and a great restauraunt attached.
The price has gone up to £15 a night, plus a one off £5 for awnings, which is not bad, but we thought a bit much for what there is.
Toilets good, clean and warm, although the showers weren't heated, and water in the gents shower was lukewarm at best.
Site was clean, well maintained and generally very plesant, although those with small children be aware there is a steep bank into the river at the end of the site.
The food in the pub was excellent, and good value for money, although we were a little dissapointed that there is no-where just for drinking, leaving you feeling a little stuck out if you want a quiet pint in an evening.
All the staff were very friendly, and helpful, and can't really fault them.
The position of the site, just off the main road, is suitable for those with even the largest units (including the huge American motor homes.
All in all a good site, but I`m sure you can get more for your money.

Stayed here whilst visiting the rally show at Chatsworth. This was a return visit and it was nice to see the toilet and shower blocks had been refurbished. Could do with heating in them though as it was a chilly weekend. John the landlord is really helpful loaning us the use of his hose to save unpacking ours. Food in the pub was good and filling. A chat with John allowed us to leave late on Sunday and enjoy our day in Chatsworth.
Will be back again

Just had a long girly weekend, not my first visit to the grouse and claret, it's a great place to get away, its central for shops, towns, places to go and so on. Toilets and showers have just been revamped and were brand new and clean on our visit, I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a quick get away. Will more than likely go again, maybe not this year. Staff are helpful, pub is lovely, area is very nice. £7.50 per night for a tent great value.

Stayed here for two nights and liked it very much. Unfortunately due to recent torrential rain the toilets and showers were out of commission so they had put a portacabin in the pub carpark! However we used our caravan washroom so that wasn't a problem for us. Nice play area for kids although my 5 year old wasn't impressed that they only had baby swings! (he still wanted to play there though!) Lovely meal in the beer garden of the pub on Saturday night and a delicious breakfast in the pub on Sunday Morning. They didn't mind what time we left on the Sunday so we were able to make the most of the day - important when you're only going for a weekend. Found £12.50 for a hardstanding and hook-up very reasonable and the site is in such a lovely position that we'll definitely be going again.

We are regular visitors to this site, lovely compact site and good food in the G&Claret at reasonable prices - even good wine at around £9.00 a bottle! Shower and toilet facilities are minimal especially when site full which is certainly most weekends throughout Summer - take your own washbasin plug!. Great touring centre for the Peak District. Nice staff in pub run by John and if your in a tent you are likely to be on top of each other as John will never turn anyone away while ever there are several blades of grass uncovered! We are booked on again for this weekend from Thursday 14th June. Caudles Mill on the right just over the bridge is also worth a visit and Peak Rail runs steam trains about a mile away on the Matlock road.

This site is as described by previous reviewers, flat hard standings with hook up. John, the landlord is an affable bloke and very obliging. The site was full Friday night wit a rally but he fitted us in OK. The price has gone up somewhat to £12.50 including electric with £5 per awning extra. The food is superb and the staff friendly. Will go again.

We visited this site for the first time, Me and my wife arrived on Thursday afternoon and there were about 4 caravans there so we just picked a pitch and set up. After we got organised I went into the pub and went to the bar and the barman came to me and I asked about paying for my caravan, he told me the price and he was very pleasant. I asked him about food and booking a table he said you did not have to book and gave me a menu, so I returned to my caravan. Me and my wife later went for a meal and it was excellent. We stayed there until Sunday and we had a further 2 meals while we were there and were told you can leave anytime on Sunday, there is not many sites allow that. The site is just basic but clean and the staff in the pub cannot do enough for you, we will be going back asap.

We use this site at the beginning and end of each season. It is just over an hours drive away and the perfect place to keep your hand in during the winter months. We will also use it if we are at a lose end and want an unplanned break. During the summer however it is usually fully booked. The restaurant/pub is reasonably priced and is smoking free with a good menu and specials. Seen as a disadvantage could be the lack of TV signal. On our last visit the chemical disposal was frozen but I`m sure that it would have been attended to quickly. Showers and toilets are clean and there is plenty of hot water. A pleasant riverside setting near to Chatsworth and next to the Peak Village shopping centre. Well worth a visit.
