We stayed at this site for a week over the bank holiday weekend & having read the reviews on this site, we were a little disappointed by what we found.

The pitches are nice & flat. Each pitch is separated by low hedgerows (mostly overgrown with nettles) & they are more than ample to get a six man tent & a car on. Each pitch has a picnic bench which is a nice touch.

Pitches 1-10 are best avoided as they are within 20 feet of the roadside & separated only by a few trees & a wall. We were on pitch 4 & although the B5055 is generally a fairly quiet road, it is used at night by agricultural vehicles, milk trucks & lorries running to & from the local quarry. We certainly weren't the only campers who found that we had a good nights sleep disturbed.

Having paid for an EHU to enable us to run a 12v coolbox of it, we found that the power supply wasn't sufficient to power it. We checked the coolbox before & after the trip & found it to work perfectly on both occasions. A neighbouring camper tried to run an electric kettle of the power supply only for it trip immediately. Fortunately we were able to use the fridge to keep the milk fresh, although it was inconvenient having to walk to the fridge & back when we wanted a drink.

There are four showers in total, all four are unisex & three out of the four are fixed head which are not really high enough up the wall for anyone taller than 5ft 8'. The showers are nice & hot but they are on a push button which doesn't last for more than about 10 seconds & the water flow in the showers near the washing up area fluctuates badly when the other shower &/or the washing up area taps are used. The showers near the main entrance really need to have matting on the floor as stepping down a step from the tray onto the wet floor can be quite dangerous & there is nothing to hold on to. The staff work hard to keep the showers clean but a few small improvements, such as the floor matting & shower curtains would make it a lot easier to keep it clean.

There is one male toilet block & one female toilet block by the main entrance. These were kept clean & tidy & the radio was a nice touch. However, access to these from the camping area was via a narrow pathway which was overgrown with nettles & had tree stumps sticking out of the ground, a dangerous hazard at night. Further down the site was another block of three unisex toilets. If the door for these was shut there was no way of telling if there was someone in them, the hand towel ran out on several occasions & the light in the middle toilet didn't work for most of the week.

The food at the Bulls Head in the village was tasty & plentiful but it can get quite busy at weekends. The breakfast at The Smithy really sets you up for the day, however during the week it doesn't open until 10am. There is no village shop so it's a case of either bring your own food or be prepared to make the 10 minute journey into Buxton (where there is a Morrisons) or Bakewell.

Buxton is a bit run down nowadays but Bakewell is a lovely little town. It's usually best to get there early & if you cant wait until the Smithy in Monyash opens for breakfast, try the Honeybun café in Water Street, Bakewell where you will always get a friendly greeting, great food & lovely coffee.

The site is well located for easy access to most of the Peak District. Chatsworth House is an impressive if somewhat expensive day out (£16 per adult for a house & garden ticket & £3 for parking). Ashbourne is a lovely town with lots of interesting shops & is well worth a vist, as is Carsington Water where you can bike round the lake, hire canoes/kayaks etc, eat & shop. Then of course, there are always the show caves around Castleton.

All in all it isn't a bad site, but we feel it needs some improvements to justify what it charges as we have been on other less expensive sites with much better facilities.

Stumbled upon this campsite by chance, been to the area many times so we thought we'd give this one a try. We were up on the top fields which are lovely and flat with fantastic views. The weather was fantastic which made our visit even better. The local area was lovely and peaceful, with amazing walks which my little dog loved. This site is just what wed hoped for, no kids screaming all night long and no groups having parties which meant we could sleep very well. It was a perfect stay.

Just came back from a fantastic weekend at this campsite. The weather did help, but the campsite is lovely. I haven't stayed on a campsite like this in the region, it has lots of 'private' pitches and several washing up / toilet / shower blocks dotted around the site. It has lots of fairy lights in the evening to help you find your way around and it has a lovely feel to it. We were given a pitch on a field at the top of the site, I think these have been recently opened up. Although the site must have been full, the fields did not feel full, we had lots of space for children to run around and play, and there weren't long queues for the toilets or showers.

Downsides - nettles and thistles everywhere, including some coming up through the grass underfoot - OK as long as you remember not to go barefoot. On the Sunday the hot water went in one block, we didn't have phone power to report this, maybe it could have been fixed if someone could call the manager.

But all hot water was free and free freezer to freeze ice packs which was very useful in the hot weather. I'd highly recommend this site, we'll be returning! Oh and the pub in Monyash (Bull's Head I think it is called) has a free adventure playground which is fantastic, right next to the beer garden.

Our first visit to this site but we'll certainly return. We had a pitch surrounded by trees / bushes on three sides. You can still see / hear your fellow campers but we thought it was a good to way to separate the pitches. Our pitch was fine for a 2 man + 3 man tent, with space for cooking and sitting outside (in between the usual rain!).

Toilets and showers were generally clean and tidy, with the (push-button) showers having plenty of hot water. The site was very quiet come lights out.

The Bulls Head in Monyash is ~5 minutes walk and does good food and a fine pint. We would recommend booking if you want to ensure a table on summer evening.

If you are feeling energetic there is a good walk through Lathkill Dale, then out the Dale & over to Youlgreave. Tucked away in Youlgreave (down a little lane called Bankside) there's a cottage which opens as a tea-room on bank holidays and a few other special occasions like the well dressing. Chairs & tables are dotted around the lovely gardens with a fine choice of home made cake. The owners donate all profits to charity and don't have set prices - there is an honesty box as you leave.

This was our first time visiting Monyash and it will definitely not be our last. On arrival the owners meet and greet you and show you where you're pitching. There are loads of lovely secluded hedged pitches which give you loads of privacy. There are also a few top fields which have lovely views, they are a bit more open but they are worth it for the sun and the views. The top fields are great if you've got a dog or kids with you. The facilities are reasonably new and not long renovated, they are immaculately clean and the cleaners and staff are often spotted checking that everything is ok. The campsite is a short walk away from the local pub which serves amazing food and has a playground which is perfect if you have kids. This site is in an ideal location and will be returning later this summer.

I come last weekend (14th -15h June) in my VW campervan. We stayed in the back camping field, good sized pitch nice and level. Very ease access from the driveway. We had hook up and awning, five of us (us and 3 children) paid £23 a night including the hook up. Pretty good value for money at this time of the year. We got a well screened private pitch and where very happy. Loads to do plenty of good walks and excellent play area behind the pub to keep the kids occupied. We drove up to Parsley Hay (about a mile away) hired bikes and cycled the Tissington trail. Which was lovely, nice and flat good cycle route. Good washing up facilities, showers pretty good for the money and free, one good well maintained toilet block near the camping area and other one slightly further away up a hill. Booked again for August. Recommend this site for family weekends away.

We got a pitch in the top field due to short notice booking. It was a lovely pitch with fantastic views and cows as neighbours, it wasn't as private as the ones down below but still got a picnic table. The toilet block near the road wasn't very clean during our stay and toilet roll ran out. Washing up area and showers behind were clean though and plenty of hot water. Downside to staying in the upper fields is you have to go up a steep gravel hill to get there and we had to have several people push us up and we found out others had the same problem, so we never used the car the whole weekend in case we had same problem. We also had a trailer which was also pushed up, and as you were unable to park in the field we had to lug all are stuff from the carpark - bit of a pain. Fantastic location and a great pub within 10 min walk with great food - very busy though!.

We stayed here for two nights in May. Plus points- large pitches with a picnic table, close to some great days out including Chatsworth- well worth a visit (if you take kids go for the farm and gardens which are fab for kids to explore and skip the actual house!). Price competitive and you can have bacon butties delivered if you order by text

Less favourable points- no phone signal for 3 network (so no butty order!)/ two toilet blocks but top one near road very basic / tight access to pitches as roadways on site narrow which also made us feel very close to neighbours opposite. Low hedges between pitches so not very private. Our pitch was very close to road.

We would stay here again for a one / two night passing through stop but we wouldn't use this site for longer holidays.

Great base to explore a wonderful area on foot or by bike. Quiet and clean facilities with ELH for us softies. Tent fields looked great. Note that mobile reception is poor. Wifi available.

The Bull's Head does great food in big portions. Next door to the pub is All Day Breakfast cafe, much frequented by local cyclists, which is a recommendation in my book

Stayed for three nights, very happy and would definitely return

Lovely Peaceful campsite, good facilities 2 toilet blocks & 2 shower blocks, clean & tidy. Good size pitches with or without electric pitches. Only 5 minute walk to the beautiful village of Monyash which has a good pub with good food and a play area for kids behind the pub. The town of Bakewell & Buxton are only a short drive away. There are some great walks around the area. All in all a great campsite that I have been to twice & will go back to again.
