First time we've been camping ever and had a lovely weekend with the kids in the peak district,
The only thing that spoilt it a bit was the weather, but we managed to overcome that no problem,
Lots of hot water in the washing up and the showers and the wash basins,
Nice sheltered pitches, individually laid out with plenty of space. We paid £21 a night inc electric for 5 of us and the dog.
Nice welcome, we where given a peak district magazine and a pretty card for out tent. Nice and peaceful although fairly busy.
Toilets were kept clean over the weekend with plenty of loo roll at all times.
Great village pub and children's play area just down the road.
Five minute drive and we were in Bakewell.

Stayed here for a few nights this week, site was just opening for the season, our pitch was nice and flat, well spaced and we had loads of room, quiet site. Electric hook ups were available on most of the pitches, good hot clean free showers, toilets clean, fresh and well kept. Looks like new washing up area just being built, £15 a night for the 2 of us, Dogs where free! Good village pub and tea room, just up the road. Had several brilliant days walking down lathkill dale, the weather was fab, (entrance just across the road from the site) Great site, good weather, good pub.

Just spent a fabulous sunny weekend in the Peak District. Decided to go camping, drove round and eventually found this wonderful little campsite. Decided to stop here because it was on the edge of a great little village and right across the road from Lathkill Dale. Lots of pitches to choose from, looks like they had just been re-turfed, £22 a night for four of us including electric hook up which we thought was pretty good! The facilities are smart and clean, showers and toilets look like they had just been refitted, the showers are good and hot and best of all FREE! Washing up area was in the process of being re fitted and looked very smart from what we could see so far. Friendly owners, wifi was available for a small charge, pitches were nice and flat, individually laid out with plenty of space, most seemed to have picnic tables already which was a good feature. Lots of snowdrops everywhere. We had a delicious meal at the pub. We have already booked to return at Easter and can't wait!

Type of camper - families with children for 2 nights.
Good points
Monyash is a pretty village with a good pub (excellent beer garden & playground) and cafe. Pub is short walk to the campsite.
Campsite has enclosed plots - separated by stone walls and vegetation - these do provide a degree of privacy.
Freezer available at no extra cost.
Toilets - plenty of toilet roll.
Picnic tables for each pitch - great facility.
Minus points or points to consider.
Toilet block/shower block - pretty basic. Ran out of soap first night we were there. Bit of a trek to get to them.
Pitch was a bit muddy - only really got the sun in the afternoon.
No/little mobile reception and free wifi was not able to pick up - not that this distracted from the stay.
Campsite next to the road - road noise.

When we arrived at this site we were shown to the Duke of Edinburgh field, which is at the top of the site, and has a view across fields, which was lovely.
Its a bit of a walk to the loo and shower from here, not for the unsteady, but fine for us, and worth it for the peace and view. We also had to park and walk our stuff up to the field, so again this should be borne in mind if you have lots and lots of stuff.
Even upin the D of E fields there were picnic tables provided, which is a nice touch. The pitch we had was nice and flat, but we did see one slopy field, but we got to choose where to pitch.
The showers and main toilets are in a barn building, charming and a little rustic, but very clean and well stocked with loo rolls. Showers were very hot and free. Anyway!. The shower areas are roomy and have a chair and hook for your stuff, and a shower caddy for your bottles etc.
There is another loo nearer the camping field but I didn't use it, so can't comment.
There is also a washing up area, but again didn't use it, but it all looked fine.
We didn't take children, but there were loads there of all ages, so obviously a good family site.
The owner was very friendly and helpful, both when I booked, and when we arrived.
The site is a pleasant walk into the village, and the pub was good with huge plates of food.
This is a really nice rural family run site, not like a holiday camp, just a really nice place to camp.

Not the easiest of camp sites to find even though on main road into Monyash. Great location, footpaths for fantastic walks on doorstep and very close to the local pub which serves decent food.
Not a warm welcome on arrival (need to ring reception and mobile phone reception poor)
Pitch OK with nice view of surrounding hills but a bit of a walk to the car and the facilities.
Facilities very basic and could be cleaner. Bulbs needed replacing in toilets and not replaced during my 4 nights stay. Only 2 showers for all tents (but think there was another in the gents) and only a few toilets but the showers were nice and hot and toilet paper was always available.
For the price I paid I would expect better facilities and service. A night at a Youth Hostel wouldn't cost much more.
Enjoyed the Peak District and will return but will find another camp site to pitch my tent. A real shame.

We are a family of 4 with 2 children and have stayed at this campsite 3 or 4 times now and have just booked for 2012.
We were delighted with the campsite when we came for the very first time as the owners have tried very hard to separate the pitches with shrubbery to give privacy.
We found the showers/toilets clean & there was always plenty of toilet roll. This site is within easy walking distance of Monyash which is beautiful, has a lovely village green and cafe then there's the pub with good food with playground at the rear. Bakewell is the place to stock up on your camping needs which is about 10 mins drive. If you do not happen to be in a plot where your car is next to you then there is a little walk to the shower blocks or up to your plot but we didn't see this as an inconvenience just another chance to spot a wild rabbit or take in the beautiful morning or a lovely evening. We don't go camping to have wi-fi or too many home comforts. It all depends what you want from a camping break really. We will definitely return.

On arrival we were really disappointed with what we saw.
What we thought was a good idea of separating pitches with hedgerows wasn't that good as it limited space making the pitch small and the hedges were all overgrown and untidy with weeds and nettles. The grass was very patchy to a point of being non-existent in parts, it was also sodden and didn't appear to drain easily.
There is a toilet in a 6x4 garden shed which was kept relatively clean. This is adjacent to the washing up area which is also in a couple of smaller sheds which weren't lit on the nights we were there, so no chance of washing up if you eat after dark. On a positive note the hot water was free and appeared to be plentiful.
There was a longer walk up an unlit and uneven hilly path to the other shower and toilet block, these didn't appear to be overly clean and what other reviewers have described as charming, I would describe more as untidy or shoddy. We only looked in them the once and reverted back to using the garden shed.
This site is ideally located for walking in Lathkill Dale and Monyash is a pretty little village, however, the high pitch fees, we paid £21 a night, don't reflect the poor quality of what you are getting. There are many other sites which are far cleaner and have better facilities charging a lot less per night.
This site has so much potential and could be a little gem.

I stayed with a couple of close friends. The campsite was beautiful, with all the plantation around in full bloom, and the staff were extremely efficient.
We were placed in a large spacious pitch together no further than 100 yards from our vehicles. The individual pitches are a brilliant idea and the facilities on site are excellent, with free showers (an absolute God send) and very clean toilets. There is even an excellent washing up area, which was another God send.
The local village was delightful, with plenty of places to walk around and see and Bakewell being only a 10min journey away.
The local pub, The Bull's Head serves some great food, I highly recommend it.
All in all, I would recommend this site to any one, as it's extremely good value for money and in a very wonderful location.

We decided to choose this site as our first family camping experience due to the location and descriptions regarding the actual pitches and how private they are. And we were not disappointed!
Upon our arrival we discovered that as per previous reviews, we struggled to find the site, once we did we did not have a signal to contact the owners by mobile as suggested, however this was no major problem and once they arrived they were very pleasant and couldn't be more helpful!
Beautiful weather coupled with a well thought out campsite was just what we needed! Yes, the facilities are rather basic but cannot complain as showers had constant supply of hot water, despite the campsite being full! I did not need to queue and the toilets were constantly being cleaned and re-stocked.
With 2 young children the adventure playground at the rear of the Bulls Head was perfect. We will definitely return following our first successful camping experience!
