Went to visit for my second time and was just as impressed as the first time.

The toilet blocks have been done up since I last visited and are very nice and spacious, with new loos & nice flooring. The blocks are cleaned several times a day and there's always hot water. There are two blocks of 3 toilets and two blocks of 2 showers which means there is never a need to queue.

By comparison, I stayed at a different cheaper site a few miles away from Lathkill earlier in the year with a group of friends who had picked it and the toilets and shower were absolutely awful, old and grotty and didn't look clean. There was also only the 2 toilets and 1 shower between a relatively large amount of people which meant lots of waiting.

Lathkill is definitely the better choice; it's more expensive but worth it for the clean facilities, free hot water and power point (something I didn't see at the other site).

Each pitch is separated from others by shrubs which adds a nice level of privacy. The site is also lovely and quiet, a big plus if you live in a noisy city like me and want to escape it all for a while. Each pitch also has a picnic bench supplied which is ideal for barbecues.

The village of Monyash is lovely and picturesque as ever, with the local pub only a 5 minute walk away from the site and serving good food and a large selection of drinks. Buxton is also just a 15 minute or so drive away with more pubs, shops and supermarkets.

It's difficult to pick a negative about the site but if I have to, the only downside I can think of is that some of the pitches may be a bit cramped if you have a large tent.

All in all, I'll continue to visit Lathkill Dale campsite for it's peacefulness, friendly staff and good facilities. Other campsites in the area might be cheaper but the quality can be greatly compromised.

We stayed for four nights and love this site.

The lower pitches are thoughtfully laid out, with dividing hedges for some privacy. There is also an enclosed, secluded field half way between upper and lower fields, which seemed to be solely used by a group of people with three tents. A great location for a group of friends.

We stayed in the upper fields and in our opinion they are the best spot. You can't drive there so have to carry things up a track, but when you get to the top, there's two small fields. They don't appear to cram people in and we had loads of space. I'm guessing there's probably three or four pitches in the field we were in. We stayed on the left-hand side of the field that's at the top of the track and, because you're raised above most of the site, there's great views in all directions - and you don't feel like you're on a campsite.

The toilets are a bit of a treck from the top fields, but worth the sacrifice. It might be nice if there were just one toilet half way up the track, but I can see that this might spoil things a bit.

The owners were very friendly and helpful.

Wifi is available and, surprisingly, we were able to get this in the remote upper fields (nearer the transmitter apparently).

The pub in Monyash is less than a five minute walk and is really nice.

We kept our expectations fairly low as the pictures on their website weren't that comprehensive, so we were really pleased that it is so great.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this site or return for another stay.

We had 5 nights at this lovely campsite this week and HIGHLY recommend it from every aspect. Our pitch was huge and private, it fitted our 8 man tent, no less than THREE picnic tables and on the first night we had 3 cars parked on it as well! It was slightly slopey but that didn't cause us any bother. The location was perfect for us as we were travelling around visiting places and people, but beware no immediately local shops or petrol stations for provisions, so plan ahead. The village of Monyash is gorgeous, the pub lovely with ENORMOUS and delicious meals and the fantastic children's play park out the back (belongs to the village not just the pub!) The Old Smithy Cafe next to the pub does equally gorgeous and MASSIVE meals, including a fab all day breakfast! As well as the huge and private pitch, the campsite facilities are excellent, the toilets, showers and washing up area all clean and tidy, and even look pretty with fairy lights at night! The freezer was a total bonus, so we could re-cool our cool box each day. And a socket there too for hairdryers. Other tips are. Have cash to pay on arrival. Phone service is patchy (apparently Orange is best covered). Entrance to site is just on Bakewell side of the village, just before the 30 speed sign. We sailed past it as the sign isn't immediately obvious from the road. We, our 3 kids and the Dog had a great time here.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this campsite. We are a family of 4 with a large family tent. Our pitch was a lovely size with our own picnic table and plenty of space for the kids to run around without annoying the neighbours!

The toilet/shower facilities are simple but perfectly adequate with plenty of free hot water.

The campsite is well positioned to explore The surrounding area with walks from the campsie. The village of Monyash is a very short walk away with a pub serving good food and a huge bonus for us was the large children's play area at the back of the pub.

We enjoyed this campsite as it was quiet with plenty of space around our tent for our 2 small children to play safely. The owners were accommodating and friendly.

We intend to return as 3 nights was not enough time to see the surrounding area, hopefully with better weather.

A lovely location for this family run campsite. We stayed on the Penthouse Field with offered amazing 360 degree views. Emails to book a pitch were responded to exceptionally quickly and catered fully for the requirements of our rather timid dog. An ideal pitch with little passers by was reserved for us and allowed us to fully relax and enjoy our time as our dog was not stressed by strangers being too close. The down side to this pitch however was that there is only one water tap which was quite a distance away when carrying the water back. Shower blocks, washing up area and toilets were clean at all times of the day. The campsite was free from rubbish and maintained very well. A member of staff was often around to offer local advice and the poor things never seemed to stop cleaning!

The local pub was very welcoming of our 4 legged friends and offered a subperb menu, with very large portions. The access to the rest of the Dales and local towns is ideal.

Tried this campsite this weekend, had a really good time. Good sized pitches, lots of free hot water for washing up and showers, pleased to say, toilets were cleaned frequently during the weekend. Never ran out of loo roll and although the site was fairly busy we didn't queue once for anything.

Although it rained heavily on Friday when we arrived, the pitches drained really quickly and by Saturday lunchtime the grass was nice and dry. Didn't think the price was bad, we paid £21 for a family of four including elec hook up, seemed very reasonable as the showers and washing up water was free.

Everyone on site was friendly and by 10pm the 'Lights out' was adhered to, so we got a good nights sleep. Lots of nice family friendly walks right by the site which the kids and the dog enjoyed (waggie tails all round)

Sunday afternoon after we packed up we had some lovely pub grub on the village green, literally 2 minutes from the campsite. Planning to go back in August

We stopped for a 2 night break at Monyash to try our new tent out before our summer break in Devon.

The campsite was very nice, the pitch was surrounded by trees and bushes and seemed quite private. The toilet and shower block were kept clean on a daily basis and there was no problem with queueing for the showers. (Included in the price)

The only gripe I did have, was there wasn't any electric in the toilets or shower block. Therefore, I was unable to dry or straighten my hair and for £18 a night I thought it was a bit steep.

Overall, I would recommend this site for a couple of days as its a lovely part of the Peak District.

Having stayed in Birchover on our last trip to the area a few weeks ago, we thought we would try Monyash as we had read reviews for this campsite and decided to try it for ourselves. We are really pleased that we did!

We stayed over the Bank Holiday weekend and whilst it was fairly busy we had our own private area to ourselves and what a treat that was with picnic table.

The site appears to have had a facelift done on it recently.

The toilets in both the caravan area and the little stone building were really clean and bright and loo roll was plentiful all weekend.

There were showers by the washing up area and also in the stone building on the exit which were well kept and (well used!) and there was lots of hot water in all areas.

Overall a lovely site that suited us as it was quiet and not a huge commercial site.

Good pub in the village with children's adventure playground, tearoom/cafe next door with good bacon buttes. Spent two lovely days walking out in circular walks from the site, Latkill dale, Monsall trail & Sheldon. Then up to the highpeak trail and Tissington.

Would recommend to proper campers good value but not commercial / friendly and traditional.

This is a lovely, fairly small campsite. It's situated just outside the village of Monyash near to Bakewell.

The first thing that strikes you about it is how friendly and helpful the owners are.

They have a very sensible policy of charging a (reasonable) flat rate for pitches which is all inclusive. That means no extra charges for electric hook-ups or fiddling around trying to find 20p for the showers.

The site itself is attractively laid out. The pitches are separated by shrubs which give a nice sense of privacy. Admittedly this means you are probably nearer to your neighbour than at other sites but it doesn't feel like it. This use of shrubs as dividers also prevent sprawl.

The only downside of this layout is that for some larger family tents, the pitches are a touch on the narrow side when it comes to guy ropes.

Another nice touch is the provision of a picnic table and benches at each pitch. Barbecues are allowed but not campfires.

An important thing to note is that it designates itself as a 'quiet site'. This means you are expected to be considerate towards your neighbours at night - so late night rowdy sessions around the barbie are actively discouraged. It's a policy that seems to work and one which I applaud. Some may find it boring, others relaxing.

Also they don't accept touring caravans.

The facilities are good and well maintained if not particularly abundant. However we didn't encounter any problems despite the site being full.

The provision of electric hook-ups was a real bonus since on two of our nights, the temperature dropped to minus 2 degrees, so a heater was needed.

The village of Monyash is pretty and friendly. It has a great pub that serves good enough food. There's also a little cafe for breakfasts etc. For anything else you need to go into Bakewell (about 10 minutes away).

Overall I'd recommend this as a friendly, quiet and attractive campsite for people who want good but simple standards.

A bit disappointed with this site after reading all the favourable reviews. The privacy between the pitches which has been praised so much unfortunately no longer exists as they have done some rather severe pruning! Found the pitches no larger or more private than other campsites even though this is emphasised as a selling point. Rather expensive at £24 per night too, compared to other sites considering the rather basic facilities (which I don't mind if the price reflects this). Always hot water and loo roll available. Village of Monyash is lovely as are the walks. The pub and park are fantastic and lots of lovely places to visit nearby. Would recommend as the surrounding area is really nice but won't be making a return visit to this particular campsite.
