Phoned Saturday morning to see if any availability and we were in luck as there had been a cancellation.
On arrival we were met by friendly owner who showed us our pitch.
All the pitches are enclosed by shrubs and we had a fab pitch(probably one of the best we have had)
Some pitches accommodate 2 or 3 tents for friends some just big enough for a tiny tent. Most of the pitches are very flat.
There is a field at the top for D of E but no noise at all from them.
The showers as other reviews have stated are pretty basic but the shower was hot, plenty of space and free!
I only used the toilet in the 'shed' - loved it!
My 1 niggle is there is no hairdryer or plug socket so had to walk round with wet hair, not so bad when its sunny but prob not best if its cold and raining!
No dog walk but then again dogs are free which makes a change. If you go out of the gate and go left for about 200yds there is a fab area to give your dog a good run.
The pub 'bulls head' is about 1/2 mile in Monyash, dog friendly and when we went on Sunday evening very very busy.Managed to get a table and ordered food which came quickly seeing as how busy they were. ENORMOUS portions at a very reasonable prices.
All in all excellent site - if you want all singing and dancing toilet and shower facilities its not for you - but we will definitely go back.

We found this site really quite even though we were really close to the road. Toilet facilities were adequate but may be more stretched when the site is more busy. The pitches are very good and well cordoned off, which gives plenty of space and privacy. All in all we will visit again. Only complaint is there is no shop to buy any groceries if you need anything within a reasonable distance.

Just spent August Bank Holiday weekend at the Lathkill Dale site. On arrival we phoned the owner who arrived minutes later to show us to our pitch. The pitch we were given was easily big enough for the two Outwell Montana 6 tents that our group used. Unfortunately the pitch was extremely soggy underfoot but the owners made a big effort to soak up the moisture with sand where possible.
The facilities, although basic were always clean & tidy, I particularly enjoyed the shower in the converted barn which had blackbird & swallow nests as company! A friend who was with our group loved the 'trap shed' as he called it, a toilet in a garden shed!
It's not the Ritz but this site has charm. The views from the D of E field were lovely as was the surrounding area.
We took a walk down the Lathkill Dale which is 200m from the site entrance, this is a stunning walk, flat but challenging, scrambling over rocks & shale in some places, well worth the effort.
The local pub in Monyash (5 min stroll away) is great, good food & even better beer. A large beer garden to the rear overlooks a brilliant playground which the kids loved. There's also a lovely cafe next to the pub but there are no shops in Monyash, we used Co-op in Bakewell which was 10 minutes drive away for our supplies.
All in all, a basic but pretty site in a fantastic location, we will definitely return.

We stayed on this site for a weekend. The site is in a lovely position in the peak district, near a lovely pub, however the site is a real disappointment, the profusion of rules and signs make the stay feel very regimented and controlled. The pitches are small, but the owners have obviously made a big effort to make the place look nice, with newly planted trees etc, but all of this obscures the views. I would suggest not going whilst raining as all of the pitches we saw were very water logged. The only really nice place to camp is in the top field (the D of E one) the views are lovely and you are well tucked away. The facilities are basic, and really quite dirty, considering the high cost of staying here, with no power points for hair driers, and limited toilets and showers. All in all a lovely village, but fairly basic site.

We have just got back from this campsite after a two night stay(27th-28thJune). This is a great campsite all you need to discover the Peaks. Showers are hot and clean and I had to giggle when in the toilet looking up and seeing a nesting bird. Toilet and shower are in a old barn, does not spoil the view. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Pitches were flat and I liked the fact you had bushes separating each pitch. Would recommend this site to everyone. Hope to be back soon

Excellent location on the edge of the village which has a church, cafe & pub but no shops.
Facilities minimal with a unisex toilet in a garden shed, plus a 'toilet block', in a small stone barn with 1 shower, 2 basins, WC, & urinal in the gents plus another unisex shower. Another shed contains the washing up area. Showers & hot water are free. The facilities seem to be work in progress.
Charged £10 per night for 1 person in a small 2-man tent. The website tarrif states small tents from £5, so it is best to clarify the fee when booking.

I came here over the bank holiday weekend with my sister and 3 children in one tent and other family members in 2 other tents. When we arrived there is a sign saying please call a mobile to check in (which was slightly difficult as I had to run around the site to find signal). They then told us which 3 pitches where ours. We had a lovely little area a little grass cul de sac which was great for all the children to play.
The toilets and shower block where a bit of a let down as they were not very clean and the water was very hot (too hot for children).
The location of the site was lovely and we ate in both the cafe and pub, both a little pricey but very good food and the children loved the play area.
Overall we had a fantastic weekend, the weather was great, had a lovely pitch and the children loved every minute and didn't want to go home.

Visited this site over the Easter break with friends and kids. The pitches we were given were fairly flat and, given all the rain that fell on Good Friday, were nice and firm.
As with many other sites, there's a policy concerning noise, ie. A 10 pm curfew and this was well observed by most. There were a few stragglers coming back from the local pub in the early hours but nothing too bad.
There's no play area for the kids but in front of our two pitches there was plenty of room for them to play ball games etc. And up in the village there's an excellent playground just behind the pub which is only a short walk from the site.
The on site toilet / shower block is a bit of a let down. They appear okay on the face of it but they're quite basic. There was a problem with hot water this weekend. I overheard a number of people complaining about this problem and it seemed that only one of the three showers had hot water available. On Saturday morning there was no hot water at all in the toilet block, other than the one shower.
There are no shops in Monyash but this isn't really a problem as Bakewell is only a 5-10 minute drive away. The Bull's Head is an excellent pub serving great beer and brilliant food.At first glance the food seems a bit expensive but when it arrives you soon realise that it's excellent value for money. Next door to the pub is the 'Old Smithy' cafe. Again, this serves good food and is very good value for money.
My overall impression is that the site is in a fantastic location with good amenities within easy reach on foot or by car, however the toilet / shower block lets it down. This needs a little time and money spending on it to bring it up to the standard of others in the area. If this can be done then the site would definitely warrant a higher score.

I have noticed all the previous reviews of this site have been for Tents, with good reason as the pitches for caravans were small, untidy and in our case full of large stones they were lying around in order to finish off the dry stone wall which was next to our pitch. My husband had to move quite a few in order to make enough room to park our car.
Most of the van pitches appeared to be seasonal as most were unoccupied and I think we had the last available space which was next to the toilet and washing up block, which were three garden sheds - not nice at all.
We have caravanned for many years and consider the cost of £18 per night expensive. I do have to add that the tenting area was 'luxury' compared with the caravan facilities.

Just got back from this campsite, we stayed for nearly a week. Had an excellent time! Super hot showers, lovely clean toilets, piped music in the ladies, our individual pitch complete with picnic table! Endless hot water in washing up sinks, all this for £14 per night, for 3 people! Could we have asked for more?
Great site fab pub nearby, excellent walks all around, I highly recommend it! *****!
