Just returned from a great weekend at Mere Farm. We were looking specifically for a camp fire friendly site with lots of open space and this was perfect. Camping in Mid-October can be a little risky but we picked a good weekend (dry) and we were the only tents on the field. The grass was well kept and provided a great arena for footballs, frisbees etc.

The site has lots of character and the owner (Rob) provided us with everything we needed including firewood, bikes, breakfast, recycle containers etc.

The washing/toilet facilities were really basic but in terms of value for money, this place gets top marks. Hardly any of the bikes we hired worked but they did provide plenty of comedy moments for just £2 each (just test the brakes first).

Already looking forward to our next trip.

Fantastic camp site. I'd go so far to say the best we've been to. Facilities are very good and very clean its a quirky place with all the stuff there i.E huge stone lions, dove houses, ect. Also if you like chickens, ducks and turkeys (mork, mindy and not forgeting frank!) you'll love it here (they are put away at night so its nice and quite. The honey and very free range eggs are some of the best ive ever tasted. The owner is a very friendly and approachable guy and cannot do enough to help.

What a lovely campsite! We were giving our new little campervan a test run as we've only ever been tenting before. The owner was so approachable & helpful - getting us hooked up and telling us where the nicest walks were to spot local wildlife, etc. However, he wasn't over friendly - soon leaving us to it.

We were disappointed to learn that the local pub had closed, especially as there isn't a club house and nothing much else in surrounding area. Despite this, we had a really enjoyable time in gorgeous rural surroundings. He did tell us that on Bank Hols he applies for a licence to serve alcohol. He hires out log burners for £4.50. Bicycles can also be hired out. 'Very' free range eggs, honey, and organic veg are for sale at good prices.

He seems to have a lot of regulars. Everyone's friendly (lots of dog walkers!)The on- site free roaming hens, turkeys, geese, etc were really comical (the owner knows them all by name!)There are several clean water taps. The showers and toilets were very clean and spacious (although quite a few cobwebs and spiders - it's a very wildlife friendly place! :-) We will definitely be back!

Just come back from Mere Farm, we visited for 4 nights over the bank holiday weekend.

The site is very quirky, our children loved the chickens, ducks and ofcourse Frank the turkey.

We pitched on Thursday morning and got a really nice spot, going on thursday proved to be a good idea as the site gradually became quite crowded by friday evening.

The campfires supplied by Rob the owner were great, however, £4.50 a go for a bit of damp wood was a bit steep.

When it comes to facilities forget it, the toilets and showers are totally inadequate, although relatively clean. (4 ladies toilets and 1 shower, not sure about the gents) When the shower was working I heared constant complains abount lack of water preasure and changes in temperature, one woman complained that she was either scalded or frozen dependent on if anyone was washing up. My family opted for a strip wash in the tent every morning to avoid this.

The Washing up area consisted of a sink area with no drain, the dirty water drained into a bowl underneath that needed empting constantly.

Rob appeared to work really hard running the bar and cafe and taking care of the site. However, I did'nt fancy trying anything from the cafe because I had been told about him stomping off (quite unhappily) to unblock the ladies toilets in his chef whites and then returning to continue with the breakfasts. (I might add that this was only hearsay I did not actually witness the event myself)

The location of the site is superb being 20 minutes away from Bridlington, Scarborough, Filey, Flamingo land, for a family with young children it is ideal.

To sum up, if you are prepared to rough it, ie heat your own water for bathing and washing up the pots and don't mind basic toilet facilities then this place is great. I will be returning at some stage but will be better prepared.

I also must mention that it is also very reasonably priced only £52 for a family of 4 staying 4 nights over the bank holiday weekend.

Just back from 2 nights over the Bank Holiday weekend. As said in other reviews site is basic but we had a laugh. Chickens and hens etc and Frank all running round, the kids loved them. Toilets are ok, only 1 shower for ladies, but avoid the early morning rush and you won't have to wait too long. Toilets got blocked while we were there but Rob was on hand to do 'the dirty job' of unblocking, why don't people take notice of the signs he put up I don't know!. Gents shower not very good, only worked 'as and when' I think. Kids enjoyed the open area to fly kites, play cricket etc. Rob ran the 'chuck wagon' for breakfast, never tried it but plenty of others did. He even opened the bar until 11pm at night! Good to see camp fires allowed and also bbq's. I think a basic but great campsite

Save the planet is rob's moto. Look after the tree's they give us oxygen, recycle use the correct bins provided . JUST DO IT that's what he says when you arrive and he gives you his little speech about the site seems like a nice guy though, always on the go.

The camp site. In our opinion it could do with a little more TLC toilets, showers, washrooms are well over due a revamp one shower for gents is no way near enough and it was always breaking down not a shower cubicle just a shower with a curtain across not really saving anyone's blushes only 2 sinks to wash and shave in also a bit dirty and really run down too, the ladies were no better my OH said. Wash pots area was realy dirty and not under cover one sink near gents lav and one near ladies lav.

The site is cheap and cheerful Rob allows camp fires (in his metal fires only) and hires them out with wood £4.50 this looks good at night with fires lit all over the site looks great.

All in all a cheap and cheerful little site but I couldn't spend more than a couple of days here due to lack of washing facilities.

AT LAST A REAL CAMP SITE!

Ok the weather was poor, muddy and wet, the car broke down, however, the owner rob, gave me a lift to filey to pick up the car,he's a very nice man, who takes big care and pride in his site, he hires out bikes, bbq and camp fires, out off all the sites ive been to this one is far the best, he also has a cafe for breakfast, free range eggs and honey, your greeted by frank the huge turkey and his possie of birds, and at all times you feel invited as we left if felt ive made one hell of a friend with rob, definitely recommend this site,ps if your a driver too, the roads surrounding the areas are fab to drive on

The best camping trip ever even tho the car broke and tent got flooded, but WILL definitely go again, see you soon mere farm! 'bobby bee's'

Great camp site! (For those who enjoy 'proper' camping). Just had a very enjoyable 4 night break at this site. We had a very warm welcome from the site owner, Robert, who gave us a friendly, thorough briefing to the site, facilities & 'do's & don'ts. Recycling & other eco issues were high on the agenda, which was good to see. The toilet & shower facilities were spacious (ladies shower room had loo in it & room for children to be showered alongside) clean & basic - certainly adequate for our needs, with homely touches. Although only 1 shower each for ladies & gents, we didn't have to wait at any point & given that our tent pitch was just over £10 per night for the 4 of us, I felt it was more than reasonable to pay extra for the shower - 40p gave enough time for a decent wash & hair wash (20ps needed) The lighting in the loos & shower was sensor activated which was useful & there were solar lights around the site to help in the dark. The site generally is full of quirky touches which help to make the site unique & memorable as well as fun for all - eg/rag dolls of Little Miss Muffett & Little Jack Horner were sat enjoying their 'food' on stones in the sheltered outdoor cafe area. It was amazing to see how quickly the site drained after the amount of rain it received each day, making the stay enjoyable despite the rubbish weather - other sites may well have become waterlogged. The site manager worked hard around the site throughout the day & was friendly & helpful at all times. At one point during our stay we required first aid & he came to assist us swiftly & spontaneously. In the mornings, he transformed into a chef & the quality of cooked breakfast buns & cafetieres of freshly ground coffee was high - I've never tasted such fresh eggs! Our young children thoroughly enjoyed the freedom this site offered & it was nice to see them playing imaginatively WITHOUT a play area - after all, space is all they really need! As the weather was less than friendly to us in the daytime, the cast iron fires with chopped wood were a welcome optional extra & good value for money at just £4.50 per night - worth every penny! A cast iron BBQ was hired out to us to, including charcoal & lighting fuel for just £3 which was handy. Local beach (Hunmanby Gap) was lovely - quiet with basic cafe (which also sells ice cream) & loos. Will definitely return to this site when we visit the area again!

All in all a good campsite. Bearing in mind it rained for our entire stay but the ground stayed fine, although there were a few slodgy patches.

Rental of the campfires is really good, £4.50 for a load of fire wood and the farmer puts fuel on for you so no trouble to light even though it got wet.

Showers cost £1 for ten mins which we thought was quite good as we managed to share the water. Althoug h they do leave a lot to be desired.

Frank the turkey is bobbing around the sight and is described as friendly. He werent so friendly when I was feeding the chickens and he charged at me and started to peck my shins!

The farmer, (robert, bob) was really friendly. Would probably go back to this site as its close to bridlington, filey and scarborough.

We have just returned from 5 nights at this site. We did enjoy it although the site suffered due to the bad weather and rain, the mud got too much for us to handle. We were in the tent field and the walk to the loos/shower became a nightmare once it had rained quite heavy. As we use the site as a base for days out etc, the weather beat us and we left early, we cant have good days out when we are caked in mud. We would have preferred a proper pathway/road to help prevent the mess.

The toilets and shower were very basic and I have to say the mens facilities were alot worse than the womens, there isnt even a proper door on the shower. With only 1 shower each for men and women (and it being 20p for 2 minutes even though it takes at least 2 mins for the water to heat up), these become quite busy on a morning. There is a socket in the ladies loos to plug a hairdryer in which was good, this is free of charge.

Forgetting all that, the site owner, Rob, is very friendly and helpful, the breakfast he cooks is lovely and reasonably priced too, his filter coffee woke me up on a morning. The chickens and Frank are great, my kids loved having animals around. There is also a lovely pond opposite the site entrance and the ducks wander into the site too.

The fresh eggs are £1.25 for 6 and the gorgeous honey is £3.25 per jar. Recycling is encouraged and easy to comply with, plenty bins around.

The site cost us £11.50 per night for 2 adults and 1 child (Tent), which I think is very reasonable, although quite realistic considering the basic-ness of the site.

The washing up facilities left a little to be desired, there is 2 sink areas but only hot water at one of them, and out of the 5 days, we only managed to wash our dishes in warm water once.

I dont think we would go back to the site, but I am sure it would be much better if the weather improved and didn't rain quite so much. I would rate this site at 6/10.
