I have just arrived back from a bank holiday weekend at this site due to my friends camping here quite regularly. I went with an open mind as I am used to bigger more established sites due to years of caravanning with my parents. I have to say first impressions, were, this is definitely going to be different!

We had had a traumatic drive getting to the site (crashed my car on the narrow sharp roads on the way in) but once recovered from the shock and arrived at the site and we passed the toilet area and got onto the tent field, I was pleasantly impressed. The tent field was flat and the part we were on was very clean. The bar / breakfast area was lovely and Rob has got to be one of the friendliest guys I've ever met.

The turkeys were a little scary to start with (my 2 year old was terrified) but we all soon got used to them and by the end of the stay the kids loved going to look at them and the chickens.

I would definitely go again and in fact planning on doing so for my friends 30th in August (hopefully it'll be warmer then)!

A mallet is recommended though as the ground is rather hard in parts and I think next time I will invest in a wind breaker too.

I write with mixed feelings. The owner is a super guy. Very helpful and you can see he works incredibly hard at keeping his campsite going. He appears to have the help of one other bloke who drives round in a 4x4 with trailer attached generally checking on things and removing rubbish etc.

When we arrived and my first impressions of the buildings reminded me of the Beverley Hill Billies. A lot of wooden shacks looking a bit rundown.

The ladies loos and showers are contained in two converted silos. There were five toilets but each had its own washbasin and therefore it could be quite a wait at busy times if you just required the loo. One of the toilets was within the shower area. It would have been better to reduce the size of the loos and put washbasins in a central area.

The shower was 20p for 2 mins and even then it was susceptible to water pressure making it run really hot then cold. I don't mind paying I just want constant water temperature when I do. We were there four nights and I only had one shower. On the day I went the floor was flooded. I take my own bath mat and I didn't put it down as it would have been soaking and filthy.

There was a mop bucket containing some really dirty water and a cloth but I didn't venture to use this. My daughter said there was a mop in the next door toilets but it was standing in a bucket in which someone had been sick.

The facilities were cleaned once a day but not to a standard I found acceptable. We did have a sneak look at the Gents and they also had only one shower. My brother didn't bother as it didn't look particularly clean.

We were seriously considering going for a swim in the local pool so we could access some showers! However the kids ventured into the North Sea and we managed with washing the important bits. We noticed that one of our neighbours had brought his solar shower, could be a good idea.

The first pitch I was offered was in a dreadful state. I can only surmise it previously held a static and it was bald uneven and rock hard. I had booked EHU which it said was available for tents but it would seem that this means you camp within the touring area. Consequently the pitch size was just adequate. I have a Hartford XL without the add ons and just about managed. One of my bedrooms was really close to the road and the fly sheet for the other was pitched around a sapling. I could have re adjusted but I think the other bedroom would have been even closer to the road. If you did not require EHU there is a larger field with plenty of room beyond the touring park.

The pot wash had its own instant water heater powered by Calor. This kept going out at regular intervals and you had to call the owner to relight it. It wasn't particularly hygienic as the water discharged onto the ground under the sink. This was closely followed by the chickens who ate up any food scraps that went with it.

Really free range eggs are available to purchase from the chuck wagon! The chuck wagon also served breakfast butties which were really good. We had some on our final day saving cooking breakfast. This then turned into the bar at night where everything appeared to be £2.

Recycling is a must here there are bins in easy walking distance of the tents.

The animals on this site are a joy. George the labrador (watch for your bins, bar-b-q, etc) does his rounds at least three times a day. More often on the evening as there are always a few more scraps to be had. On the morning we left he ran off with our apple juice in a carton and somebody elses coco pops.

Frank and Mork the Turkeys, who also roam free. They seem to pay more attention when your are erecting or taking down your tent. Dont leave your doors open or you may find uninvited guests! Some people seemed terrified of these odd looking creatures but they are quite placid and just curious. There are also rabbits, geese ducks and hens.

Also on the good side we had our gazebo for which we were not charged extra (this was pitched between our two tents and not affecting the pitch size mentioned above). The site is situated in a lovely area convenient for all the east coast seaside towns.

There are braziers (£5 to hire) and wood available (£3 for a large box full). Lovely idea.

I am not sure whether there were any facilities for clothes washing.

The ground here is really hard so make sure you have the appropriate pegs.

If you have a tourer you probably wont encounter the problems above with the facilities and for you this will be a super site.

For all you campers out there if you like well maintained clean facilities this may not be the site for you.

We had a good time apart from the wind on Sunday which damaged my brothers tent and the facilities (not really my thing). The key question is would I go back? Sorry Robert, you're a great guy but it's not for me.

I have just returned from the site and I would recommend it to anyone! Yes, your first impression is that it is ramshackle but, and this is a huge BUT, it is fantastic, the site is mainly flat it is surrounded by beautiful countryside, there are plenty of places to go and things to see and do and Rob IS a really decent chap. I was graced with blue skies and warm sun which hits the site from sunrise to set and let’s not forget the fact that a crackling camp fire makes ALL the difference. I will be going back with my kids and again by myself with tent and all strapped to my motorbike

We spent the weekend here. On arrival as many others have stated its a unique kind of place, rundown but quite quaint and quirky with chickens, geese and turkeys wandering around. There are large lion statues and the odd gargoyle. We were met by Rob, a very pleasant helpful chap who gave us the save the planet and recycle speech 'just do it' he said.

First we had to glove up and remove a load of bird excrement which was all over the ground before we could lay the groundsheet for the awning and this could be very very offputting if you have young children.

It was fairly quiet that evening and most of the caravans didn't seem to have anyone in.

We went to bed and were looking forward to a lazy relaxing weekend.

04.45 and the cockerels start and on and on they go. Guess we were worse off than the those on the tent field as the birds were caged at night not very far from the caravans. So if your coming for peace and tranquillity in the countryside then be warned ! same happened sunday morning and they just don't shut up !

The birds all roam free mainly in the first caravan area and if you have a dog you need to be aware. My dogs were tied up on their leads but one of them pulled so much his collar broke and off he went chasing the chickens.Gave me a fright not to mention how the chicken must have felt. Luckily its life was spared as he's a softie really and just wanted to play! Good job it wasn't my girl dog that's all I can say ! Rob was ok about it 'just so long as its doesn't kill them' he said.

Toilets were clean.

We were somewhat perturbed that twice when going to get water we were penned in by the 2 very large Turkeys who try to peck at you whilst you fill the water container. A bit scary if your not used to this kind of thing as they are big.

The water hose was also found to be left either hanging near to or sometimes virtually in a water filled plastic container covered in feathers and excrement (the chickens seemed to drink and paddle in it)Its very offputting/unhygienic and I'm sure health and safety would not be impressed.I pushed the plastic container away from the hose and wiped it down.

Overall if you want something different then it may just be for you.

Just returned from a lovely weekend at this fab site. Yes it is a bit basic, sometimes the toilets won't flush or you have to wait for a shower but it all adds to the charm of the place. The pitches are spacious and flat. Its safe for the children, my little boy delighted in feeding the chickens. The campfire in the evenings was for us the best part, we loved toasting marshmallows (the children) and sitting with a beer/wine relaxing (adults). Its also in a great location for visiting Bridlington and Scarborough. We will be back!

When 1st driving up the lane I thought what the hell have I come to but you turn the corner into a lovely if very rustic site with chickens, turkey's,geese roaming about, it's almost like going back in time.

You are met by Rob the owner/manager/cleaner/cook who is a smashing bloke doing his bit to save the planet, so it's all recycle recycle recycle.

The fields are large and you can pitch where you like, but the ground is a tad hard and we bent a few pegs so beware. We pitched with the EHU's which was a strange set up, seemed to be all extension leads onto extension leads but worked fine.

There is only one shower for the gents and I'm told one for the ladies to ( 20p for 2 mins), the problem you have is if someone washes up whilst your in the shower the water pressure drops (as I found out covered top to toe in soap). In all not the best shower/toilet block but not the worst. We left on Saturday as the site was filling up for the bank holiday and it was getting busy in the showers/toilets/washing up areas but I guess that's the same every where.

Local beaches are great and spent a lot of time there £3.50 parking for the day with a cafe and toilet just above the beach

We will definitely go again.

What a fantastic site. Plenty of room for the tent and windbreakers. We stayed 4 nights and had a firebucket every night. A tip though is not too near your tent! It was very windy and some ash blew onto our tent and melted it. Toilets basic but shower hot and lots of bins to recycle your rubbish. Lovely village pub within walking distance which does a good pint. Will def visit again.

There was myself, husband and 2 children-a 1 year old and a 4 year old. This campsite is so original! When you first drive into the lane it looks quite ramshackle, but quite beautiful.
If Rob the owner is not about, there is a walkie talkie on the door you use in order to reach him-great idea! Rob is a one man band and wow what a superstar.
He opens a breakfast bar serving tasty bacon, eggs, sausages etc. He also drives round in the afternoon delivering wood and a burner if you want it-cost £4.50 per night. I suggest you take more wood if you want a decent burn!
My children loved feeding and chasing the chickens round, but I was quite pleased the chickens rarely ventured into the main tent fields. No playground-no real loss- but a great area for running around in and the little stone henge Rob has made was perfect for my 2 to play hide and seek and chase.
Electric hook up is limited to mainly the caravan field-some tents were there, but disappointed we couldn't use it-too crowded. The toilets were absolutely fine for us, but we did go when it was quiet. I can imagine they would get rather dirty in busy periods, but wouldn't all camping toilets. Showers take 20p and £1.00 coins only.
There is a lovely beach and small cafe at humanby gap-we parked at the top and walked down with a loaded buggy, a little steep as you get to the beach but fairly buggy friendly- and a great farm for little children called cruckley farm-head for Driffield and brown signs then take you there.
About 5 min drive away is the village of humanby where there is a co-op, pharmacy, butchers and newsagents. Perfect for supplies.5 min walk from the site is a pub-great food-and a post office.
The tent fields were a little exposed, but we did decide to camp when it was windy! Also take a mallet as ground in areas is quite hard.

Oh WOW! How on earth did we find this gem of a place - it is a cross between Pa Larkins, Darling Buds of May and Steptoe and Son's Yard.

If you blink you miss it as you drive into the village, but once found you are met by Rob the owner. His only rules seem to be recycle, recycle, recycle and leave the washrooms as you'd want to find them. He then sends you off up 'The Yellow Brick Road' to pitch wherever you want and if you don't like your neighbours don't blame him 'cos he didn't pick them!

Hens, chickens, cockbirds, turkeys, stone lions and wooden moose are all there! They just add to the charm as you reach a mini Stonehenge amongst the tourers.

We pitched in a large field with very stony ground so heavy duty tent pegs are a must.

For £4.50 Rob delivers a chimnea or brazier with a pile of wood to burn, this added to the still night atmosphere. It is a must!

Although it doesn't boast a kids play park ours loved the tree swings and freedom in the wide open space and intereaction with the animals.

If you can't be bothered to cook breakfast Rob opens up his Chuckwagon and does the best breakfast buns we have ever tasted, not to mention the best freshly brewed coffee.

The washrooms are quirky to say the least with LLoyd Loom chairs and tasselled lamps in the toilets. Found them to be clean where they needed to be and very well stocked.

There is so much to say we would be here all day raving about it - every camper should visit at least once for the experience.

Burton Fleming is a lovely village too, with Post Office and village pub. It was Scarecrow weekend when we visited and it added to it's charm. Don't forget to buy your eggs and honey before you leave the site!

Will we be back??? Course we will, only came home yesterday and the kids are asking when will we be going back!

This site is very rustic and the owner is a helpful chap. Nice to be able to pitch your tent were you like and was busy when we stayed, but never felt to cramped in. Good location for the coast and the village is very welcoming and the post office sells proper sweets out of jars and a few basic bits.

Showers / toilets I have to say let this site down ,they need a very good clean, pity really as quite good being in the old butter churn shed. Pot washing area was very bad,as take your wellies as waste was running down were you stand. Only used that the once.
Fire pits. Look good, but ashes fly all over, at £4.50 feel the price is quite high
I would go back to this site again.
