Just back from an overnight at this site.
The staff could not have been more helpful, they were absolutely lovely from the moment we arrived until the moment that we left.
The surroundings are terrific with lovely walks along the side of the river Trent. Power stations are not to everyone's taste however I knew it was there before I booked, it is worth a look from the riverside path as it is an impressive beast. A further unexpected plus was some piles of aggregate we passed near to the stacks. The piles were absolutely full of birds which had dug little caves into the makeshift cliffs. I am afraid that I am no Bill Oddie so I don't know what they were but they were great to watch. One downside to the power station was that although I could not hear it at all by day I was aware of a low throb from it overnight, I managed to sleep but I was conscious of it when I went to bed.
The site itself was really nice, we were given a terrific amount of room for our tent, the pitch was in a nice open field and was one of the largest we have had anywhere, the ground was level and well drained, top marks.
The facilities were a little basic but they were largely clean. We did have to queue for the washing up room and the draining unit was blocked however the washing facilities are being extended. I mention it here but it would not stop me returning.
We visited the Local pub "The Ferry" when we arrived. It was not quite what I expected, I would describe it as a working mans pub. Our experience there was really good, we had a pretty basic but tasty lunch and the staff were friendly. They had no problems with children, my son and I played pool with the barman and had a chat on the patio.
There was however one big disappointment with the booking. I have no doubt that this is a very quiet site normally and that was exactly what we were looking for. However on the weekend that we were here there was a Ford Probe Rally with about 50'ish cars. They were well behaved and sociable bunch but I am afraid that on the Saturday night there was a function arranged in their marquee which led to loud music booming around the site. I took a walk around and although it did not sound too bad behind some of the buildings it was certainly loud where we were. The low point was a strident Karaoke version of 'Alice, Alice, who the F*** is Alice'. Having an eight year old son this was really not good enough. I spoke to the chap on duty and to his great credit he asked that the music and language be toned down.
I am sorry to say that this did put a dampener on an otherwise excellent site. I don't mind people having rallies; I just wish that I had been warned about it when I made my booking. I would have gone somewhere else and come back another day to enjoy what is no doubt an otherwise lovely rural site.
Subject to rallies, and next time I will check first, I would go back.

The gent working at this site helped us to erect our tent and was very good, it is a lovely flat site, and well placed for visiting wonderful areas. It was very quiet when we visited, so there was no problem with showers, loos etc, my only real criticism of the site is that it had no drying facilities, we were only there for 3 nights so it wasn't a problem to us but if anyone was staying longer and staying in a tent I imagine it would have been a real annoyance. Other than that we would use it again if we were going that way.

Just spent a long weekend at the site with friends. Must say was a little worried seeing the stacks from the local power station as we got close to the site. However what a lovely site and owners. The camping field was well cut and neat. There was plenty of room for all the kids to play rounders or other ball games. Just over the rise at the field end was the river Trent. The shower block was fine and with plenty of hot water. The washing up area only had two sinks but the owner was in the process of building a new washing up area. Lincoln is only a short drive away with all its attractions. There is a pub within easy walking distance if you fancy a drink. The food was good value but the staff could do with some training. It's the only time I have ever had to take my own order. When the food did came out there was an hour between the first meal and the last meals arrival! (13 in our party).
I have no hesitation in recommending this site.

A nice pleasant site with fair prices. Electrical hookups available for tents as well as caravans and both tents and caravans are welcome in the same field together. View is a bit odd with 3 great big electricity burning towers but otherwise it's a lovely location with a 45 minute walk to a really nice pub that does fantastic lunches and with a playground for the kids. Another pub is just 5-10 mins away. Toilet block is basic and clean. Ground conditions are very good. Very helpful owners and they even recharge leisure batteries for you. Freezer supplied on site which is great for refreezing freezer blocks or just keeping stuff in.

We stayed at this campsite for 4 nights from 24th May 2009 to 29th May 2009 in a 6 berth Vango Diablo Tent. 2 adults (34 and 26) , 2 children (7 and 4). I do not want to recommend it because I want to keep it a secret all for myself - lol. The site is great - I agree with the previous review - I wish it had a children's play area and an on-site shop. It currently only has a vending machine which sells bacon, sausage and milk (UHT). I cannot complain however as their web site does state this when booking and it is such a lovely campsite I would definitely go back. Clean, friendly, peaceful and scenic (including the power station). There is loads to do in the area - sundown pets adventure (children under 10 a must - 5 mins away), Lincoln castle and cathedral (30 mins), Skegness (1 hr 30 mins), homemade ice cream parlour (15 mins away - cannot remember the name but it is in the welcome pack) and Sherwood forest (major oak - 30 mins away).
All visited while we were on holiday and the kids had the best days. I know this is not to everyones taste but I went running everyday and the routes and scenery were bliss. We will definitely go back - highly recommended.
The welcome pack provided when you book in is brilliant and gives you all the info needed. A lot of good pubs with food detailed - Eyre Arms in Rampton did exceptionally good food.
Please note - If you want an on-site pool, clubhouse, games machines etc. Then this site is not for you. Do not get me wrong I love those sites as well but this holiday was different and was made special by the surroundings.
Hope this review gives people a little insight.

We visited here for the first Bank Holiday weekend and stayed on the Rally Field. We were located next to the only water tap and kept getting lots of children mucking around near our tent! It would be best to avoid the telegraph pole with the tap!
The site is great, very peaceful. The power station was nearer than I thought! The older two had a ball rolling down the hilly bank!

Having read previous reviews I knew that it was supposed to be a quiet site, and how truthful they were - absolutely no noise after 10.30pm which was blissful.
We stayed the first Bank Holiday in May and there was plenty of room for our two large tents. Although we had a 'lovely' view of the power station, it was surprisingly pretty at night when lit up.
The site itself was basic with no shop or play area, but there was plenty of space for the children to play and the local shop wasn't far away. The showers and hairdryer (both free),and toilets were spotlessly clean- never a queue and their was always toilet roll available.
Sundown park was only 5 mins away which my children both 6 and 2 thoroughly enjoyed- although older children could probably get bored as there are only 3 basic rides.
Lovely site, would definitely recommend if you want a quiet site and are prepared to entertain your own children.

“I would just like to compliment the owners of Trentfield Farm Campsite in Church Laneham, nr Retford. We were booked in on Friday for a long weekend camping and fishing. Just before we got to the site our trailer broke, we managed to reach the campsite rather shook up and wondering how we were going to get home on the Monday, when the owner of the site came to meet us and completely put us at ease and reassured us that he would take care of our trailer for us. As soon as we were unpacked he came over and took it away in his truck and brought it back on Sunday all ready to go home the next day. This was our first visit to this site and we had a lovely weekend, we will definitely be returning. Many thanks to the site owners"

This was a last minute booking I found the site on this uk camping site.
When we arrived the owners were so friendly and helpful.
We only intended staying for the weekend this was at the beginning of august 08 and we ended up staying nearly 6 weeks, as it was only 40 mins from our home
The showers and toilets are very nice and always clean, Elaine and John who own it are really lovely and we have got to know them well. I really cant say anything bad about staying there and I cant wait for next year to go back

We visited for three nights over the August bank holiday weekend and had a great time at Trentfield.
As per most of the other reviewers on here, we were made to feel very welcome while on the site. We were shown promptly to our pitches but, being in a group of 7 tents, we were really pleased that the owners were relaxed about how and where we set up, allowing us plenty of space for gazebos and so on.
We were in the rally field and has nice views across the river. When booking, I'd personally recommend asking to be sited in this field rather than the other field which has the power station chimneys looming over it!
We found the toilet and showers to be adequate and clean. Only 2 showers in each of the male / female blocks but we never found ourselves having to queue. Also, we noticed that building work looked to have just started on an extension of some sort to the toilet/washing up block so looks like improvements are on the way anyway.
Simple but really handy little extras included a large freezer to refreeze ice packs in and the option to get your airbeds blown up for free with a big air pump.
The site is right next to the river but with banks, hedges and fencing, is perfectly safe for the kids as they can't get near it. There's a really nice riverside walk you can take and it's just a few minutes to the riverside picnic area where we sat and watched the boats and waterskiers flying past.
2-3 more minutes and you're at the local pub. Sadly though, this was our one disappointment of the weekend as, contrary to a couple of other reviews on here, we did feel as though we were just unwelcome tourists in a local pub for local people! The service was lousy and we left hasty after one drink!
But, the pub aside, we'd definitely look to make a return visit to Trentfield in the future and would happily recommend it to others.
